Woman Gets Revenge Courtesy of Google Images

Hao Wu Re:Smells Fishy.. (487 comments)

Also consider that he doesn't look particularly underage in that photo, which would be much more complicated to use (in advertising or an academic project) if he were truly a minor.

RIAA, MPAA Recruit MasterCard As Internet Police

Hao Wu Re:May you live in Interesting times (421 comments)

Wikileaks is a front for the CIA. They are trying to minimize donations from ordinary citizens because people are going to be seriously pissed after it comes out to whom they really donated. If you are in a foreigner, on the other hand, they will be happy to take your money and place your name on a terrorist list.

CIA Launches WTF To Investigate Wikileaks

Hao Wu Re:Idiots (402 comments)

They have chat logs implicating Assange in aiding Bradley Manning with submitting the documents. The law is pretty clear about these things. We'll just have to wait for his trial.

That isn't the same thing as assisting someone in stealing classified information.

A new theory says Wikileaks is run by the CIA. They essentially collected their own secrets, thus identifying leakers while also exposing corruption among diplomats. They have also attempted to set a pretext for war with Iran and North Korea (since the public would never believe it if our government made claims about missile transfers after losing credibility in Iraq).

If true, then Assange himself would most likely be a British agent since he is an Australian citizen. Agencies often do work together.

China's Influence Widens Nobel Peace Prize Boycott

Hao Wu Re:Creating own award (360 comments)

I wonder what Confucius would think of this. Ignoring pleas of the people isn't exactly the kind of things he advocated.

Do you know how Confusion society treated women?!? They were only slightly better off than women in the strictest Islamic societies.

Why Toddlers Don't Do What They're Told

Hao Wu Re:Thank you Einstein (412 comments)

This discovery has very applicable uses, particularly in the general processes of the cognitive processes of toddlers, brain development, and memory storage and retrieval.

And people care! When kids need attention, parents can't wait to whip out a research paper written by someone with no kids who has processed cash-desperate volunteers in a "methodological and precise" manner.

You're pretty stupid!

Why Toddlers Don't Do What They're Told

Hao Wu Thank you Einstein (412 comments)

Maybe if doctors would have more kids instead of studying them in laboratories, then they would "discover" these insights immediately.

It's like young engineers who tediously write out what working mechanics already know. Academics can solve problems on paper. Put them in the real world, and they flunk out of life.

With a Computer Science Degree, an Old Man At 35?

Hao Wu Re:Do you want to piss away your 30's too? (918 comments)

If you can start at a community college and TRANSFER to Yale or Harvard or Stanford, you'll be better off. A big name helps a lot on paychecks. At 35, you'd think he'd be better off going to a doctoral program (assuming he has SOME degree and an interest) where he'd pay little for it and could wash out after a year and a half to two years with a master's degree and little to no debt.

http://www.edububble.com/dpp/

You can download his book for free. His thesis: that the "education bubble" will eventually break just like housing. (What were we ever thinking?! That $200k in debt is "worth it"?!)

Even law and medical students are being screwed. They won't escape debt and make decent money until many years after graduation.

Education is priceless. Today's university system is essentially a giant credit card scam.

The Age of Speed

Hao Wu Re:I don't care about getting things done quickly (114 comments)

Much of the world has become so wealthy and fat that the only pain and tragedy comes from excessive pleasure, mainly in the forms of drug abuse and arrested psychological development.

I'm not sure if this is better or worse than the world back when sloth and immaturity meant freezing or starving to death.

Breach Exposes 19,000 Active US, UK Credit Cards

Hao Wu Re:Cashless Society (232 comments)

People will not give up their cash without a fight, particularly in the current circumstances (not that anyone ever trusted banks, private companies or government).

Sounds like a "gold standard" argument.... The best standard of all is: absolutely anything. You can use gold, lead, or bananas if you want. And people do -- it's called a futures market.

Basing all of your wealth on bananas might sound silly, but there are doubtlessly people who have made millions doing just that. Fruit, gold, and "trust" - they are all exactly the same in economic terms.

Wealth is between you, and whatever the next person is willing to trade.... before you inevitably break even and die taking NONE of it with you.

Breach Exposes 19,000 Active US, UK Credit Cards

Hao Wu Re:Cashless Society (232 comments)

It's gonna be interesting when we finally move to a cashless society. Things like this will be unforgivable in such a society.

That would be nice.

How many times have we read passionate arguments that "nobody should be in prison for non-violent crimes!"

Remember this story the next time you see those stupid posts modded +5 insightful.

Shell Ditches Wind, Solar, and Hydro

Hao Wu Careful what you wish for (883 comments)

Today, oil companies dominate.... oil. (Look how people scream about it!)

Do you really want them to dominate sun, wind, and water technologies instead?

How To Get High-Schoolers Involved In Real Science?

Hao Wu Why? (314 comments)

I want my airbags tested by an enthusiastic teenager, not some beaten down engineer with years of backbreaking experience.

All they need is the desire to succeed, in order to do bridge building or aeronautical design. Surgery too.

Sci Fi Channel Becoming Less Geek-Centric "SyFy"

Hao Wu Since they killed MST3K (798 comments)

I knew right when Mystery Science Theater 3000 was canceled that the bitch executive in charge only wanted a version of MTV or G4.

"Alternative" culture has ALWAYS been a creation of the usual mainstream drivel. Cult followings are just blind and indifferent toward their own blatant capitalism.

Women Skip Math/Science Careers To Have Families

Hao Wu Re:The Problem... (616 comments)

Psychologists love validating "common sense" with hard data - then they demand we all change our lives and reform in their vision of what's right.

They refuse to accept their own conclusion that women choose what they want, and there is NO CONSPIRACY to keep them uneducated or 'barefoot in the kitchen'.

National Ignition Facility Fires 192-Beam Pulse

Hao Wu Re:Energy Independence (438 comments)

When we have energy in surplus, at the (general) expense of no one, the world may move much more easily to peaceful respect and cooperation.

Ultra-cheap energy will create devices that require materials and technology which yield other shortages. Wars will continue over those items.

War itself will be cheaper to wage due to the low energy costs, removing a major incentive not to wage it.

The Last Will and Testament of Circuit City

Hao Wu A few words (600 comments)

"Whether or not you were ever a fan, it was a sad scene."

I just heard some sad news on talk radio - Circuit City was found dead this morning. There weren't any more details. I'm sure everyone in the Slashdot community will miss them - even if you didn't enjoy their work, there's no denying their contributions to layoffs and unemployment. Truly an American icon.

Sheriff Sues Craiglist For Prostitution Ads

Hao Wu Re:Read the Complaint (695 comments)

It also cites specific cases where Craigslist was used to facilitate the abuse of child sex slaves. Is anyone here concerned with that, and that Craigslist is profiting from that traffic?

In your world, if a criminal is wearing bluejeans- then Levi is partly responsible for his crime.

Anything can be used to facilitate anything else, and anyone can profit directly from another person's crime. The TASER corporation, for example.

Sheriff Sues Craiglist For Prostitution Ads

Hao Wu Re:All consentual sexual relationships are... (695 comments)

What you get is a pleasant evening out with a lady.

You act like girls don't want to have sex. Do you know how badly most of them would love to skip the phony dinner and go straight to bed... but guys like you make them feel ashamed so they need stupid rituals to validate the affair.

Then you deprive them of any excitement by paying for dinner without strings attached, still on the thesis that she doesn't want cock, and shouldn't.

Then you wonder why she went home with "that guy"... really she was only too happy to make some "gentleman" pay for her meal, and then ditch him for what was truly on her mind.
