Ask Slashdot: Communication With Locked-in Syndrome Patient?

HellYeahAutomaton Re:Stem cell therapy (552 comments)

This woman needs help now, not an indeterminate number of years from now when they get through all their bureaucracy.
My advice is to start up a private funding campaign (YouCaring) and get her to wherever the most pioneering medical research is being done and get her some stem cells. For his own sanity, I suggest that he start seeking out other spouses of locked-in patients for some support and find out what they are doing -- which is probably better than any other advice that I've read here.

Fuck the FDA.

Researchers Experiment With Explosives To Fight Wildfires

HellYeahAutomaton This was tried in San Fran in 1906 (80 comments)

"After the flames were extinguished, the explosives did nothing but create an avenue for the fires to spread during those first critical hours: Buildings and walls that might have served as firebreaks had been demolished.

The explosives also raised a dust that choked the lungs and impaired visibility. But perhaps the worst damage was the creation of even more fires as flaming debris ignited ruptured gas lines. Unwilling to admit responsibility for their collective mistakes, the Mayor, the Army, and the Fire Department all pointed fingers at each other, adding fuel to the administrative confusion that reigned during the fire."

Fixing the Pain of Programming

HellYeahAutomaton Re:this is why my kids won't be coders (294 comments)

Programming is pain because most kids today are unmotivated, dumb, and too busy with their social network status and feeling good about themselves than to learn and do stuff. Crappy IDEs and lousy frameworks are a symptom, not a cause.

Your 60-Hour Work Week Is Not a Badge of Honor

HellYeahAutomaton Re:Stop inviting it (717 comments)

I don't buy into the whole shared misery concept. Perhaps thats why I disasgree with so many of the slashdot liberals.
Why should I be happy about your allegedly high quality of life subsidized by your crotchfruit?

Your 60-Hour Work Week Is Not a Badge of Honor

HellYeahAutomaton Re:Stop inviting it (717 comments)

The next time you say "Taking my son to xyz." Say it like it was wonderful and not like it's an excuse.

And make sure you're not in earshot of anyone actually doing work who resents you for it while you're off having a grand old time.

Nothing you do is so important that it is an emergency.

People live and die every day, so don't give me that "life or death" excuse.

Slashdot Tries Something New; Audience Responds!

Judging by your last dozen posts, you're a real fanboy of the new design.

I assume you're the only paid shill they could get to suck on it.

Meh, OK so since 1997, you haven't implemented account deletion. Perhaps this is a feature to consider working on before making the look and feel of the site frou-frou.

HTML5 App For Panasonic TVs Rejected - JQuery Is a "Hack"

HellYeahAutomaton Re:Panasonic has a TV app store? (573 comments)

jQuery always has been a hack, but it is a very good hack.

To be fair tho, you are playing within their walled garden. It's a good thing that you've pointed this out to all of us tho, to shame them.

Marc Andreessen On Why Bitcoin Matters (And A Critique)

HellYeahAutomaton Re:Bitcoin is not going to last... (332 comments)

I'll make it clear for you: The government is already stealing over 70% of my stuff in day to day life, if you count income tax, property, consumption (sales) tax, and taxes on taxes.

While they make it more organized with a paper trail, it still doesn't make it anything less than theft.

Assaulted for wearing a hat

HellYeahAutomaton HellYeahAutomaton writes  |  more than 2 years ago

HellYeahAutomaton (815542) writes "While walking out, Ron Dusavitch, a bailiff, yelled to me from behind, “TAKE YOUR HAT OFF!”

“I’m leaving, sir.” I replied.
“TAKE YOUR HAT OFF!” he repeated.
“LEAVING, sir.” I replied again, still walking out the door, minding my own business to get out of the building and on with my day. Ron had other plans.
Ron LEPT into action and RAN across the courtroom (See top left corner of video at 0:21) and JUMPED into the hallway. He tackled me by pushing me up against the wall and held me there with his hands on my shoulder and bicep.
“Take your hat off,” Ron the Hero again commanded...."

Ron Paul grassroots internet campaign is surreal.

HellYeahAutomaton HellYeahAutomaton writes  |  more than 6 years ago

HellYeahAutomaton (815542) writes "Last night I was watching and participating in the Ron Paul Tea Party 07 for presidential candidate Ron Paul. The event strategically coincided with the Boston Tea Party anniversary. The experience last night was a sick and twisted cross between rabid Amiga fanaticism (back in the day) and the hopefuls for Red Sox Nation on their 1918-2004 losing streak of winning a world series. In a matter of hours I watched the ticker go up a million dollars and then a million again. The buzz on the IRC channel #ronpaulradio and their web radio coverage Ron Paul Radio was surreal. I've always been a registered Republican, but voted for the libertarian Badnarik in the last election. Two of his controversial platforms is to dismantle the IRS, and pulling out of Iraq, which many libertarians are supportive of. Are these the primary reason that the mainstream media is not covering/censoring him, and can the $18 million he's raised actually give him a fighting chance?"
