Technically, the last phrase I read before voting was "Print is Dead". So, I voted for that.

How many robocalls do you get each month?

Jeff321 Re:What? (228 comments)

I use a free Google Voice number and have it set to email me the voicemail recordings which are auto-transcribed. Of course I enrolled that number in Do Not Call too. The rare message I get is usually a misdial.

My biggest problem is I have a Vonage line for work and I keep getting fax machines trying to call even though there's no fax machine hooked up. Faxes are not covered by Do Not Call (nor are political calls), which makes zero sense to me. I started to just keep the ringer on silent and have Vonage transcribe/email the calls for me.

Ethics of Releasing Non-Malicious Linux Malware?

Jeff321 I think you've already decided... (600 comments)

There were two options:
1. Release it anonymously and take no credit
2. Write about it and get some credit (but then you can't actually release it due to legal issues)

You can't (and won't) release it now. If somebody gets attacked with your code, guess who they're going to prosecute and/or sue.

Computers To Mark English Essays

Jeff321 Re:Context... (243 comments)

Well, if the whole essay is stuff like that, I think you deserve a low score.

Humor may sway a human reader but it will have no effect on your robotic overlords.

14-Year-Old Wins International Programming Contest

Jeff321 Re:Am I missing something? (141 comments)

From the Wikipedia article:

"The top 50% of the contestants are awarded medals, such that the relative number of gold : silver : bronze : no medal is approximately 1:2:3:6 (thus 1/12 of the contestants get a gold medal)."

Why Do Hard Drives Keep Getting Bigger?

Jeff321 Re:Files are a gas, but drives are not balloons. (450 comments)

Yeah, I'll agree with that. We can get more storage space for less money, and then because we have the space we might as well have higher quality media and content. This will probably continue forever.

Which Language Approach For a Computer Science Degree?

Jeff321 A variety of languages is not so bad (537 comments)

I wouldn't be too worried. Having exposure to a variety of languages will mean that you have more job opportunities available to you, and therefore you'll get more interviews. Once you land a job and start using a specific language, that will become your specialty.
