Raspberry Pi As an Ad Blocking Access Point

JorDan Clock Ad server spoofing? (82 comments)

Could it be used to spoof an ad server? I have used a number of Android apps that will continuously try to reach ad servers if you use any sort of ad blocks, which causes extra battery drain. Could this system be set up to send some placeholders so the app will stop trying to pull an ad?

How Plagiarism Helped Win the American Revolution

JorDan Clock Re:Different Goals (245 comments)

Man. It was still about money. They were buying the rights to the articles when they bought the printing plates from other newspapers. You don't think they just reset their own plates do you?

Ask Slashdot: A Cheap US Cellphone Plan With an Unlocked Phone?

JorDan Clock T-Mobile (288 comments)

T-Mobile have a Value series of plans specifically for people who own their phone already that have a discount on the monthly rate. It's actually the plan I'm on right now. Also I'm 99% sure both T-Mobile and AT&T offer the ability to buy pay-as-you-go SIMs that include data.

Early Exposure To Germs Has Lasting Benefits

JorDan Clock Re:Of course it is (136 comments)

I believe a popular hypothesis was that older women go through menopause to focus on helping the community instead of raising their own children. However I don't know if the hypothesis includes an explanation as to why this is unique to humans.

HP Slate 2: Brilliant or Bust?

JorDan Clock Re:Bust (235 comments)

What are you talking about? Windows 8 will run everything Windows 7 and before would run. Just because it doesn't have a Fischer-Price UI doesn't mean you can't use it with a touch screen. And developing for Windows 8 has the lowest cost of entry of any of the platforms, so it would be ludicrous to NOT develop apps that are desktop/tablet friendly for Win8 as well at iOS and Android.

B&N Yanks DC Titles After Exclusive Amazon Deal

JorDan Clock Re:My guess is the digital only versions aren't th (125 comments)

Actually, since DC relaunched with their new "52" event, part of the changes included ALL comics being available in print and digital forms on the same day. So it's everything, from Action Comics to mini-series that are available in digital form the same day you can pick it up at a B&M.

OnStar Reverses ToS Changes

JorDan Clock The TOS changed...? (90 comments)

Just because the ToS changed doesn't mean they're still not going to collect and sell all that data. Now it's just not in the ToS and they'll be a little quieter about who it goes to.

Does it matter which way they're stacked? If it's horizontal, you could just flip it on its side if heat becomes an issue...

Costly SSDs Worth It, Users Say

JorDan Clock Re:So a good idea would be... (288 comments)

In addition to the Momentus XT that several others mentioned, there is also SSD caching on Intel's Z68 motherboards allowing you to designate a 20GB+ drive as an automated cache of whatever data is traveling to and from your hard drives. The effects are quite noticeable and it seems like the system is pretty smart. Plus, it is done in software that is easily updated should a more efficient algorithm be found.

The iPhone's Role In Crippling T-Mobile

JorDan Clock Re:Insane premise (325 comments)

If Comcast sold the computers using their cable internet, they would sure as hell care if the highest profile computer wasn't available on their cable internet.

Mario Gets a Portal Gun In New Indie Game

JorDan Clock Re:Hmm.. saw it originally on Hacker News.. (85 comments)

The current footage is of remade Mario levels, but the plan seems to be to release completely original levels with the finished game. That could be fun, but I don't see why they need to use Mario when they could just make a 2D Portal game with the same mechanics (Jump height, running speed, enemy types) as Mario and an original art-style.

Dutch Court Says Android 2.3 Violates Apple Patents

JorDan Clock Re:Slightly confused (195 comments)

Android 2.x is for smartphones while Android 3.x is for tablets. This difference in purpose means a number of core apps, like the Pic Gallery, are very different in design and features.

PlayStation 3 Controller On Android Devices

JorDan Clock Re:Call me when (133 comments)

Why is that "retarded?" Why add an extra device to the equation when the whole point is portability? I think this idea is actually pretty "retarded" and backwards. The controller is as the the device.
