How Gygax Lost Control of TSR and D&D

JosKarith Re:When going into business with Friends (162 comments)

IIRC Williams went on to sink as much of TSR's money as possible into buying up the rights for the Buck Rogers RPG ... which flopped and sunk without a trace, crippling TSR's finances. Rather than invest in it to turn its declining fortunes around as she was supposed to she effectively asset stripped it - her family owned the Buck Rogers franchise rights...
All in all a classic carpetbagger move by Williams that everyone except Gygax fell for.

Obama Administration Says the World's Servers Are Ours

JosKarith Re: Maybe, maybe not. (749 comments)

Dear Microsoft,
We notice you have a sales arm in our gloroius country. Therefore your entire company is subject to our jusrisdiction and we demand you hand over data on any computer in the imperialist pig-dog USA that is running any of your operating systems. We have special interest in computers held by the NSA, CIA, FBI and such agencies and would appreciate if you handed those over first - preferably within 24 hours.
Yours sincerely, KGB.

Unintended Consequences For Traffic Safety Feature

JosKarith Re:sound and sides (579 comments)

It's to stop boy racers sitting at the lights reading the signals for the other stream or pedestrians and knowing when the lights are about to change so they can jump off the line the second their lights have gone amber. Used to cause a huge amount of accidents with people who were travelling in the other direction and speeding up to get through on the amber their way.

Match.com, Mensa Create Dating Site For Geniuses

JosKarith Re:But people forget what MENSA concluded (561 comments)

I have an IQ that repeatedly tested somewhere between 150-170. I crashed out of two universities, spent most of the 90's off my face one way or another and now work in IT support for a government department. High IQ doesn't always correlate to greater success - though it has helped me find a niche where I can slack more efficiently and still pull in a decent salary so I guess I'm not doing too bad.

Washington Redskins Stripped of Trademarks

JosKarith Re:Chicago Blackhawks too? (646 comments)

When someone says "I'm rather offended by that" my instinctive response is to say "You're offended by THAT? Well you're gonna get majorly butthurt when I really get going, asshole."
"I'm offended by that" is very rarely used by someone who is actually hurt by something you've said, instead it's the rallying cry of a certain type of bottom-feeder who is too spineless to stand up for themselves so gets their jollies by claiming offence on other people's behalf.

EU's Top Court May Define Obesity As a Disability

JosKarith Re:Thyroid condition ? Doubtful. (625 comments)

Yep, they fix nitrogen and carbon from the air, using energy from sunlight. Animals on the other hand burn these compounds to release the energy. Unless you've learned to photosynthesise your weight gain/loss is going to be pretty directly related to the fuel intake/fuel use ratio.

EU's Top Court May Define Obesity As a Disability

JosKarith Re:on behalf of america (625 comments)

In the UK a large amount of the legal system is based off precedent - the government passes laws but the courts decide how they are going to interpret those laws. One judge's personal bias can modify the implementation of a particular law for years as judges are extremely loathe to contradict precedent.
