Cops 101: NYC High School Teaches How To Behave During Stop-and-Frisk

JosKarith Re:Gestapo (481 comments)

Yes, yes they do. And old people, and middle-aged people and...
Well it's not so much hate as disrespect and a lot of cops seem to feel that a gun and a badge gives them a god-given right to push people around.

PC Cooling Specialist Zalman Goes Bankrupt Due To Fraud

JosKarith Re:Just (208 comments)

Plus, the banks involved won't even lose out cos' the governments will declare them "Too big to fail" and bail them out from the endless pot of money that governments just pull out of their asses without any source. So it's totally a victimless crime, right? So we should all do this then everyone will have infinite money and live happy ever after...

Dunno man, "xXxPonyWarrior2002xXx" sounds more like a SJW's username than someone who'd enjoy banter.

Speed Cameras In Chicago Earn $50M Less Than Expected

JosKarith Re:Easy to solve - calibrate them to overestimate (398 comments)

Similarly in the UK there are laws saying that fixed camers require warning signs. But the mobile camera vans don't need one so can catch you anywhere. Funny thing is I've never seen them anywhere near any accident blackspots - they're always on stretches of dual carriageways where the speed limit drops for a couple of miles for no apparent reason...

Speed Cameras In Chicago Earn $50M Less Than Expected

JosKarith Re:Easy to solve - calibrate them to overestimate (398 comments)

But then again there are junctions in the UK where you can get trapped into either stopping in a box junction or running a red light - either of which gets you a fine.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new...
In the case of the Chicago cameras though I'm sure they'll publicly spin it up as a success in that clearly the cameras have had their deterrent effect while privately cursing the fact that their money tree isn't patching the budget holes like they wanted.

Facebook To DEA: Stop Using Phony Profiles To Nab Criminals

JosKarith Re:CFAA violation! (239 comments)

Of course it does - that's just boilerplate "Of course this law doesn't apply to us" that they have been writing into laws since people started holding them accountable to their own laws.

David Cameron Says Brits Should Be Taught Imperial Measures

JosKarith Re:Yay! (942 comments)

The EU is actually really useful for the UK - or at least it was until Tony B.Liar gave away a whole load of our hard-bargained for advantages to make cheap polititical capital for himself.

David Cameron Says Brits Should Be Taught Imperial Measures

JosKarith Re:Yay! (942 comments)

It's clearly aimed at luring voters away from UKIP who are getting increasingly frustrated at EU interference in every level of UK life but are uneasy about voting for the "swivel-eyed loons".
As you said, another populist soundbite that will be quickly forgotten. The only advantage to teaching kids Metric was that learning to do all the conversions helped practice mental arithmatic but in an age where everyone has a calculator on their smartphone that's really not so important anymore.

Apple Faces Large Penalties In EU Tax Probe

JosKarith Re:I would like to see a return... (120 comments)

I see that BS line trotted out by companies all the time - "If you don't give us favourable treatment we'll go play with our ball somewhere else". I say that government should call their bluff - the next company that tries it just gets their licence to trade pulled and their shares suspended. See how quick the other companies back down.

BT and Coke To Offer Free Rural Wi-Fi In South Africa Through Vending Machines

JosKarith Re:inb4 "evil corporate plot" allegations (71 comments)

I'm just surprised they didn't do a system where there's a code on the side of the can good for something like an hour's access. Would drive sales nicely.

Scotland Votes No To Independence

JosKarith Re:Everyone loses (474 comments)

"This was the Tory plan all along. They saw the financial crisis as a huge opportunity to undo some of the damage that 13 years of the Tony'n'Gordon show did to the UK" - TFTFY. And no, I'm not a Tory voter - I hate them almost as much as I hate nuLabour. Politics nowadays is like saying "Here's a pint of sick, a pint of piss and a pint of dysenteric shit. Which one are you going to drink?"

Scotland Votes No To Independence

JosKarith Re:NEWS FLASH! (474 comments)

45% x 85%(the turnout) x 95% (voter registration) = 36% - that's only just over 1/3rd of the population voted for independance. Lrn 2 Math.

Scotland Votes No To Independence

JosKarith Re:Everyone loses (474 comments)

It was about 30 years since the last referendum on independance. In 30 years time Salmond will be long dead and the North Sea oil will have run out. Unless Scotland magically comes up with some other means of funding itself then independance will be a death sentence for them.

Australian Police Arrest 15, Charge 2, For Alleged Islamic State Beheading Plot

JosKarith Re:News for nerds (165 comments)

Well, I think we can expect to hear a "Look we caught a terrorist, this is why we needed all those powers" justification for running roughshod over everyone's right to privacy in the next few days. That's pretty on-topic for here - this is just the front-runner of it.
