I Wish My Car Had A...

JrOldPhart Re:Options (789 comments)

> Cyclists do not belong on the same road with trucks and buses. Cars maybe, not heavy vehicles. It should be illegal. > One of them can pull out in front of me and it's legally my fault because I hit them from behind.

Great point.

Save thousands of lives more each year than outlawing guns would: OUTLAW CARS.

Senate Votes To Replace Aviation Radar With GPS

No, we will struggle to determine why they don't like us, then give them money in the hopes that they will like us in the future.

Highly-Paid Developers As ScrumMasters?

JrOldPhart Re:Scrum master = Project manager!!!!! (434 comments)

So you are saying that a scrum master is supplementary role like grammar-nazi. Little if any added value.

Seems that Continuous improvement would dictate the elimination of that role.

NASA's Orbiting Carbon Observatory Mission Fails

JrOldPhart Re:well we're f*****d (325 comments)

I'm not sure I would call climate anything a hard science either.
The forecasts of Climate scientists may be as accurate as the Weather scientists.
And they have been studying weather longer.

Plus they are funded better when the cause is popular.

Seagate Hard Drive Fiasco Grows

JrOldPhart Re:Coming to a disaster near you. (452 comments)

Samsung had and has a design center in the US manufacturing in Korea. WD had and has design in the US and pilot production in the US, manufacturing in Asia. As does Seagate.

But then, I only said the US companies as in Seagate, WD, Maxtor... switching to class 10 cleanrooms. In fact WD's San Jose facility completed a "state of the art class 10 cleanroom in their (at that time) new building In south San Jose (1996).

Seagate Hard Drive Fiasco Grows

JrOldPhart Re:Coming to a disaster near you. (452 comments)

In '95 Samsung had the same assembler who put the media into the disk stack also placing the foilcal on the completed HDA, without a change of gloves. They also thought a cleanroom was cool curtains in a warehouse. The US manufacturers at the same time were building class 10 cleanrooms.

You have simply been lucky.

Discuss the US Presidential Election

Discuss the US Presidential Election

JrOldPhart Re:I'm only going to say (1912 comments)

Can't agree with that.

"The purpose of a system is what it does."
Therefore the purpose of government in the US is to take money from the working masses for the support of government.

What does the government do for us? Our infrastructure crumbles. We shore up failed businesses to the tune of $700 billion...

Oh yea, and kill people in countries that did not attack us.

Discuss the US Presidential Election

JrOldPhart Re:I'm only going to say (1912 comments)

Yea, the government did a great job of maintaining the infrastructure. Oh, but even with all of those taxes the bridges collapse. And the highways decay.

As for security from terrorists, sorry but shit happens. To be safe from that you could be placed in a concrete vault, underground. But then an asteroid would still be able to get you.

No thanks, I will take my chances. I will not give up my freedom for security.

Discuss the US Presidential Election

JrOldPhart Re:Obama (1912 comments)

You're contraction of you are.
Your, possessive.
One can not have a "going", nor can you have an ignorant.
Yet as evidenced by your comment one can be ignorant.

Republicrat or Demican, two sides to the same coin.

German amateur cracks WWII mega-code in 46 second

Killer Electrons From Outer Space

JrOldPhart JrOldPhart writes  |  more than 6 years ago

JrOldPhart (1063610) writes "The IEEE Spectrum is reporting http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/sep07/5498 That: Electrons in the Van Allen belts are normally not dangerous to spacecraft, but every month or so radiation levels spike to as much as a thousand times their usual intensity — surges called geomagnetic storms. Now, scientists believe they understand how some particles get accelerated to become "killer electrons." readmore"

Then vs Than, damnit! (Grammar Nazi)

JrOldPhart JrOldPhart writes  |  about 6 years ago Learn to use then and than. They are not equal!

1. I would rather eat ice cream then get poked in the eye by a sharp stick.
2. I would rather eat ice cream than get poked in the eye by a sharp stick.

Two totally different meanings:
1. You say that you prefer to eat ice cream and get poked in the eye with a sharp stick.
2. You say that you prefer to eat ice cream instead of getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick.

So now do you see why you look like an idiot if you don't know which word to use?

then ~ next
than ~ instead

Royalties For Hardware

JrOldPhart JrOldPhart writes  |  about 7 years ago Imagine if hardware manufacturers used the same business model
as the Movie and Music Industries. You get a license to use the hardware
each time you put in a piece of media you pay royalties to the manufacturer
for the use of the equipment.

Having worked in the hardware industry, I would love to receive royalties.

Predictions of Doom

JrOldPhart JrOldPhart writes  |  about 7 years ago There was a time they trained us to "Duck And Cover" to protect
ourselves from nuclear attack. (helpful I am sure)
Then we were told of the coming food riots.
Then of the coming Ice Age.
Next we were told to fear the hole in the ozone.
Don't forget the dire warnings of the breakdown in society due to Y2K.
We were told how to seal our houses, to protect against terrorist biological attack.

Now we are to fear GLOBAL WARMING.

Or could this be the way that the powers-that-be keep we the sheeple from
seeing what is really going on? If that is so, then we are being controlled
by fear. Is there no difference between our government and terrorists.
