This probably doesn't happen very often but "I did not see that line". Shutting up now.

Officer Not Charged In Michael Brown Shooting

JudgeFurious Re:I just don't understand (1087 comments)

No. It's not. He explained it to you perfectly and if you don't understand it then you simply don't understand how any of this works and you're not able to participate in this discussion. He did not say that they could arbitrarily assault people who are not using force of any kind. He told you that they were allowed to escalate to a higher level of force if you fail to comply with them. They issue you a verbal command and you tell them to go fuck themselves for instance. Then they are allowed to beat your ass into compliance. That's the gist of it. They get to shoot you if you decide to try and beat one of them up too. That's because they're carrying a handgun and they are allowed to do whatever it takes to keep that handgun from falling into your hands. Go back and re-read what this AC said and when (if) the light bulb comes on you'll feel better.

Battlestar Galactica Creator Glen A. Larson Dead At 77

JudgeFurious Re:plug for Tektronix test equipment (186 comments)

I hate to be a dick about Larson because he's died and it's never a great idea to speak poorly of the dead but his "ideas" were mostly ripped off takes on other people's ideas that he saw in popular films. The guy was successful doing this but he really just cranked out cheap copies of things and trends he saw in films. OK, he did that often. Not always but quite often. I'll give him that. There was probably an original idea in there every now and then. Not many of course. He did work in Television after all.

Battlestar Galactica Creator Glen A. Larson Dead At 77

JudgeFurious Re:Hmmmm (186 comments)

Yes it was however in the case of Buck Rogers the movie did come out in theaters prior to the television series showing up. It was always intended to be the pilot for a new TV series though. I imagine they worked that trick out from their previous experience with Battlestar Galactica but executed it better the second go round.

Discovery Claims It Will Show a Man Being "Eaten Alive" By an Anaconda

JudgeFurious Re:Oh good (164 comments)

"Connections" was great. It was old even when they aired it but still, you weren't going to get to see that again on PBS and I watched the follow up series too. Definitely long gone. I miss that stuff badly. Television today is abysmal

Obama Administration Argues For Backdoors In Personal Electronics

JudgeFurious Is it "worriesome"? Really? (575 comments)

I think it's worrisome that my government thinks it should have the ability to get into every single aspect of my life with minimal obstruction because "someone", "somewhere", is doing something they shouldn't be. I am thinking of the children. I'm thinking that unless people stand up to this kind of shit "the children" are going to grow up in a world where they have absolutely no privacy and think it's perfectly acceptable for that to be the case.

Which Cars Get the Most Traffic Tickets?

JudgeFurious Re:Study is quite incomplete (261 comments)

Much like the Pontiac GTO. I had one and there were very few sold in the states. They only sold it for three years (I'm assuming they're talking about the 2004-2006 version and not the original GTO from 40+ years ago). Very few made and they are disappearing quickly. I spend a lot of time at a GTO message board and pictures of wrecked GTO's are regular fodder for discussion. Still, while there may be few left I bet the ones that are still out there are still being (mostly) driven by idiots who attract plenty of law enforcement attention.

Which Cars Get the Most Traffic Tickets?

JudgeFurious Re:Study is quite incomplete (261 comments)

This is it exactly. I'm 49 years old and have been driving too fast for most of my life. I still drive too fast today, I just pick my moments. Haven't had a ticket in well over a decade too. It's just experience. When I first got my 2006 GTO I got on it quite a bit but the first time I was at a light next to a younger guy in a Subaru STi I learned that some things change over time whether you want them to or not. The light changed and we both took off hauling ass trying to pull away. I didn't get far before I started looking at the street ahead of me and thinking stuff like "What if someone pulls out into my lane?" and "My insurance is going to go through the roof if I get in a wreck or get a ticket". I backed it down and let him go on his way. It just isn't worth it. I still have a heavy foot (2014 Mustang GT now) and like to speed but I do it when I'm alone and there are very few cars on the road around me (if any).

Miss a Payment? Your Car Stops Running

JudgeFurious I couldn't accept a car loan under those terms (907 comments)

I just would not do that. I've used public transportation and I've moved in order to be within walking distance of a crappy job because it was all I could get. I understand that isn't going to work for everyone. I'm just saying I would not do this.

Yep. Of course the dead aren't being buried safely. Decades of experience watching movies tells me that the dead are rising to feed on the living.

New Study Projects World Population of 11B by 2100

JudgeFurious Don't look at me (326 comments)

I'll be long gone and I've made sure that I created no annoying descendants too. I've done my part for population control. It's partially how a rationalize my 16MPG Mustang GT, hour long hot showers, and keeping my thermostat at 60 degrees all summer long. I'm bad but I've made sure that I'm the last of my line. Now get off my lawn!

The Shrinking Giant Red Spot of Jupiter

JudgeFurious Re:Global warming (160 comments)

Exactly. At some point Jupiter will conclude that the red spot is no longer part of it's core business model and outsource it to some smaller planet where it will cost less to maintain it. I understand Neptune is a very economical alternative.

4chan Launches '$20 Bug Bounty' After Hackers Ruin moot's Day

JudgeFurious Re:let me be the first to say (79 comments)

We're all just a bunch of "slashfags" anyway. Who are we to criticize? I tried to explain the weird evolution of the word "fag" to a friend and he didn't get it at all. There are people today who use the word in a way that has nothing to do with homosexuality (just as oddly enough it long ago had nothing to do with homosexuality) "oldfag", "newfag", 'bfag" or "btard" more commonly get people all riled up about the rampant homophobia (or political incorrectness where "tard" is concerned) but don't seem to get that the people using them are fine with homosexuality. It's like the actual state of being gay is fine now and culturally got accepts but the words describing them (previously in a derogatory way) didn't..... but people decided to use them for something else anyway.

US Climate Report Says Global Warming Impact Already Severe

JudgeFurious Re:I can't be bothered to care (627 comments)

That's my thought expressed perfectly. I consider myself a very pragmatic person and took stock of my abilities a long time ago. I care predominantly about myself (unapologetic about that) and those I know directly. I'm not antisocial at all. I meet people all the time and make friends easily enough but outside of the people I actually come into contact with I don't feel a great deal of connection to the rest of my species. I'm 48 and in my lifetime they've grown by the billions without any contribution on my part. I also recognize that I'm self-centered enough to make a poor parent. Friends with children tell me that would change with the arrival of a child but without any desire to reproduce why do that. Sure, I stay in practice :) I just doubt the doomsday scenario that calls upon me to contribute to repopulating the earth will come to pass. I have an "Earth + Plastic idea of what will come to pass. In that bit Carlin ends with his prophetic "The Earth isn't going anywhere. WE ARE" and I think he missed-it-by-that-much on that one. The human race is part of this world and we're one of the most adaptable species on this rock. If it can be survived we're going to survive it. Not all of us of course. Not even most of us. The species however will go on and adapt to whatever comes along. We always have and we always will.
