WikiLeaks Cables Foreshadow Russian Instigation of Ukrainian Military Action

Kharny Re:When Russia invaded Georgia back in 2008 (479 comments)

Without gazprom sales, russia will be hurting a lot more than germany without the gas.

Maybe if it was the start of a very nasty winter, but not at the start of spring with a good reserve.

WikiLeaks Cables Foreshadow Russian Instigation of Ukrainian Military Action

Kharny Re:Well ... what do you expect (479 comments)

yes, shocking, people who immigrated to a foreign nation finally had to learn the nations language, just like everyone else who does that.

Only in their case, they got to wait a bit longer than most people.

I'm sorry, but the fact is that the russians that lived in the former baltic states had the ability to learn the native languages for years, but refused in their imperialist pride.

Furthermore, there is always the option to leave the country they illegally occupied for years and move back to their own nation of russia.

Time Warner Deal Is How Comcast Will Fight Cord Cutters

Kharny Re: what price increases? (424 comments)

I actually haven't had hd-dvd, and i can see fine the difference side by side.

But compared to the huge convenience step from vhs to dvd and the quality increase, especially over time, blueray was unimpressive.

Dvd quality is good enough for just watching a movie, it doesn't detract really from the movie, unlike vhs's lines, speckles and broken tape.

The scam was that we traded in a ok system with a broken one, terrible copyprotection and other mess.

Time Warner Deal Is How Comcast Will Fight Cord Cutters

Kharny Re: what price increases? (424 comments)

No, there is no push for 4k content and tv's, because the customers see it is the same scam that was blueray.

Barely visible quality increase at big costs, no extra convenience or anything.

Incandescent Bulbs Get a Reprieve

Kharny Can I just have the old bulbs please? (767 comments)

As i'm living in finland, and we have the same stupid laws incoming....

The energy put out by the bulb is not wasted, it helps heat the house, which i have to do anyway 10 months per year.
The other 2 months, it's daylight 20+hours per day, so i don't need lamps anyway.

Is the Porsche Carrera GT Too Dangerous?

Kharny Re:Stability Control (961 comments)

Bullshit, only in rally and low traction surfaces is skidding or sliding usefull.

Especially in highspeed racing, such as F1, they do everything possible to prevent it.

I wish my cell phone was...

Kharny Re:50% dumber. (495 comments)

Bullshit, size is relatively unimportant.

Actually compared to finland, with it's low population density and extreme climate, 90% of the usa is piss easy to do.

It's just greed and cartel forming that are making it so bad and expensive in the USA.

I wish my cell phone was...

Kharny Re:50% dumber. (495 comments)

Above the polecircle, it gets worse, usually only "edge" coverage outside of towns. There is a few area's that have bad coverage, but "dropped calls" is something i've only ever experienced outside of Finland.

The united states has a higher % of urban population than finland, and if anything, with that big a scale, it should be easier to make it cheaper, not harder.....

Kharny Re:50% dumber. (495 comments)

And lapland has a population density of only 2 people per square km, what's your point?

a large part of the finnish population lives in the south, but the north has the exact same phone contracts.

Although they might not have 4G coverage there ;D

And even relatively "basic" drivers, like myself get the benefit of a manual when you have to drive a lot downhill and can just enginebrake instead of cooking your discs.

What Is Your Favorite Polearm?

Kharny Re:sword vs polearm (469 comments)

a katana is just a basic, light bastard sword with only 1 cutting edge.

Especially in old times, they were made of pisspoor iron, since japan had such limited resources.

Katana's where status symbols, not combat weapons, even the nobles mostly used bows and spears in combat

What options are there left for slide style keyboa

Kharny Kharny writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Kharny (239931) writes "I've been looking around for a decent replacement for my rather aging nokia 6760.

The problem is, there is practically no new qwerty phones coming out from nokia (still my preferred brand due to hardware reliability). The N900 and E7 are both getting a bit older and really aren't worth the money compared to the newer models. Help? :D"

Google "accidentally" collected wireless data

Kharny Kharny writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Kharny (239931) writes "A mistake in streetview car software meant that google has been collecting wireless data from any unencrypted sources that their streetview cars passed.

Software meant to collect mac adress and ssid "to improve marketing data" had been programmed in such a way that if a WAN was unprotected, it would also collect surfing and email data transmitted."

Blizzard adds timestamps to armory

Kharny Kharny writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Kharny (239931) writes "In a move that could cause quite serious privacy problems, blizzard added timestamps and a rss feed to world of warcraft characters in their online armory. This new feature will mean that anyone can follow "realtime" developements in a world of warcraft character, and if the user behind the character would be know, even add time and date to playing habits. Many players have already complained about the fact that there is no opt-out option and this opens very big possibilities for online stalking."

Kharny (239931) writes "Yesterday, a 22-year old student of The kauhajoki vocational school opened fire with an automatic weapon, killing at least 11 fellow students before turning the gun on himself. The incident has many parallels to the previous shooting, including youtube video's posted 5 days before the incident. Police had questioned the student on monday about the video's, but due to the fact that no specific threats were made, they were unable to pursue the case. more info at: http://www.yle.fi/news/"

Uwe boll will not produce the upcoming Wow movie

Kharny Kharny writes  |  more than 6 years ago

Kharny (239931) writes "Renegade film director Uwe Boll has told MTV that he approached Blizzard for the film rights to World of Warcraft. He was not-so-politely refused. According to Boll, "I got in contact with [chief operating officer] Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, 'We will not sell the movie rights, not to you... especially not to you.'" Boll is the director of a string of game-licensed films — including BloodRayne, Alone in the Dark, Postal, House of the Dead, Dungeon Siege and the forthcoming Far Cry — that have been poorly received by gamers. So much so that Boll famously challenged his critics to a series of boxing matches. "Because it's such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it," said Boll of Blizzard's decision. Blizzard did eventually sell the movie rights, however. A live-action Warcraft film is in production by Legendary Pictures, the outfit behind Batman Begins and 300. It's currently slated for a 2009 release, although no director or cast has been attached as yet. Speaking at last year's BlizzCon convention in Los Angeles, the producers revealed that the film has a USD 100 million budget, and will be set slightly before the time frame of the original WOW release. Blizzard story guru Chris Metzen added that it would concentrate on the war between Horde and Alliance from an Alliance perspective, feature a new hero character, and be "absolutely a war movie". source: http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/04/18/uwe-boll-wont-ever-be-entering-the-world-of-warcraft/"
