Ubisoft Hands Out Nexus 7 Tablets At a Game's Press Event

Kinjin Re:This isn't a new practice (43 comments)

Gamers know these so-called journalists are purchased just like the current game they are slinging. What they should have said was "which almost no gamers rely on to help them make a purchasing decision." That's why "Let's Plays" are so popular. Gamers go to places like twitch and you tube to get a look at the game and advice from someone who has no motivation to lie to them about how good or bad a game is. So gaming companies are trying to slap copyright and content complaints against let's play presenters. Those Nexus 7's cost a lot of money especially why no one relies on their shills for purchasing decisions any longer.

China Arrests Thousands In Internet Porn Crackdown

Kinjin Re:China is not a Left Wing or Communist State. (204 comments)

There is nothing new about the Chinese government doing evil things. So living over there has either kept you out of touch with reality, or you are knee deep in the kool aid.

The assertions you make are simply invalid. If the Chinese people really believe what you claim there wouldn't be anyone to arrest because to begin with no one would be watching porn.

Unless you mean there are a bunch of Chinese out there watching porn, angry with themselves for how it "demeans" woman while beating themselves into a coma... oh wait.

Sci-Fi Author Peter Watts Beaten, Charged During Border Crossing

Kinjin I will wait to decide (1079 comments)

Peter Watts has given his side of the story. While I believe the Border Patrol is capable of doing what he said, I don't know if I necessarily believe what he is saying is what happened. By the same token, I will take what the agents say with a grain of salt as well. I want to see the video. There should be multiple cameras that recorded that confrontation. Unfortunately depending on who is telling the truth we may never actually get to see it.

The Science Credibility Bubble

Kinjin Re:Modern-Day Galileo (1747 comments)

Stop modding that flamebait! That is the exact reason this thread was made. High and mighty So called expert says X and everyone is supposed to just bow down and believe it. Except by his own admission Mr so called expert doesn't know shit.

The Science Credibility Bubble

Kinjin Re:Modern-Day Galileo (1747 comments)

"I've worked 15 years in climate research, acquiring hard data"

Case in point. You are stating you are an expert but you don't even know about the inaccuracies. So either you didn't bother to even evaluate the information from the film, or you just wrote if off the list as "right-wing" tripe. Ofc there is the possibility that while you are an expert, you still don't really know shit.

Yet I'm sure it still eludes you why people have a problem with the "trust me" mantra.

UK ISP Disconnects Customers For File Sharing

Kinjin Re:I don't understand (311 comments)

ISP's are required by law to address DMCA complaints so they aren't liable.

Per the DMCA: "In addition, to be eligible for any of the limitations, a service provider must meet two overall conditions: (1) it must adopt and reasonably implement a policy of
terminating in appropriate circumstances the accounts of subscribers who are repeat
infringers; and (2) it must accommodate and not interfere with âoestandard technical
measures.â

You don't have to like it. I know I don't. But that's why they have policies.

AT&T 3G Upgrades Degrade 2G Signal Strength

Kinjin Re:Why so serious? (210 comments)

Normally I would agree with your premise.

"Edge users are equivalent to VHS users. The technology has moved on, you need to move on or deal with slightly degraded service"

That isn't really a valid analogy. If VHS players suddenly couldn't fast forward, rewind, or record, and could only play some parts of a tape, then yeah. That's not the case here though.

In this case there seems to be a large group of people still under thier original contracts. INAL but sounds like 1. Breach of contract (Degraded services) 2. Bait and switch (oh if you want it to actually work properly you need to upgrade to G3) 3. Fraud (Offering and contracting services you have no intention of providing - which is where the purposely degrading comes in)

Obama Team Considers Cancellation of Ares, Orion

Kinjin Re:Cut taxes, then (870 comments)

"you don't need a democratic government that protects free speech, free press, ensures due process, regulates health standards, and ensures their nation is at the forefront of science & technology, etc. to have an armed forces."

Exactly! Because the world is really just fluffy bunnies and cupcakes.

Entertainment Software Association Following RIAA?

Kinjin Re:Bullshit takedown notice (204 comments)

"It goes on to name the filename and the application:"

Obviously, not everything in the notice was pasted in the example. So while I would need to see the entire notice to be sure, it is in the style, format, and uses the verbage of ESA notices.

I stand by my original statement. It appears to be a legitimate DMCA notification. The ESA has been sending them out for quite some time. They normally include everything required by the DMCA to make it valid.

Entertainment Software Association Following RIAA?

Kinjin Re:Bullshit takedown notice (204 comments)

Actually, that isn't a bullshit takedown notice. It's a DMCA Notification and it looks legitimate. The ESA has been sending notices for ages, and unlike others they get it right. Meaning they include everything in the notice required by the DMCA. If you are running a network and don't have a policy, it's about time to make one. You have certain responsibilities under the DMCA as well to not be held responsible. You should seek legal advice, and have your organization form a policy to deal with these issues. You will want to stop the person using limewire until your organization decides how to handle this.
