Musk Will Open Up Tesla Supercharger Patents To Spur Development

M8e Re:Really Not really (230 comments)

Tesla gets to use the land for free.

Installation, maintenance, and electricity cost them money. But none of that money goes to the land owner. It's simply the costs they have when making the hardware, getting the hardware to the 'land', installing the hardware, maintaining the hardware, paying the power company and so on.

NASA Morpheus Lander Test Ends In Explosion

M8e Re:Not sure I would categorize this as a "Failure" (237 comments)

No, A failure of a lander means a failure of a lander. But it can be a success for both the flight test and the mission. I mean they probably learn a lot from this, but the lander still exploded.

Why Junk Electronics Should Be Big Business

M8e Re:Many are going to Nigeria (155 comments)

You have to compare the manufacturing, packaging and shipping of the new LCD/LED with moving an old CRT nowhere.
Using the old CRT doesn't have any additional manufacturing, packaging and shipping costs(both environmental and $)

Asteroid Crashes Likely Gave Earth Its Water

M8e Re:Neon (138 comments)

1. There is a lot more of Hydrogen and Oxygen than Neon.
2. Water have a feezing point of 273.15 K, while neon is 24.56 K(Under standard pressure, but it doesn't change much). This means that water can form a solid closer to the sun, and crash into things like Earth instead of just get blown away by solarwind.

Why Did It Take So Long To Invent the Wheel?

M8e Re:Rotating round thing? (389 comments)

I think you are right about the mill. But I was actually thinking about the rotary hand quern, but that still only date back to something like 500 BC.

The slow pottery wheel(tournett?) might predate the wheel, but I don't think that it counts as a wheel.
