Will Microsoft IIS Overtake Apache?

MacColossus Sharepoint? (303 comments)

My guess is this is largely driven by the push to use Sharepoint.

Are Shuttered Gov't Sites Actually Saving Money?

MacColossus Re:democrites vs repugnicants (668 comments)

You don't have to go that far. Just furlough the White House chefs. If Michelle has to cook her own meal she will put an end to this nonsense.

Ask Slashdot: Are We Witnessing the Decline of Ubuntu?

MacColossus Ubuntu Server (631 comments)

My guess is this is mostly about a decline in Ubuntu desktop users? I'm running Ubuntu server without a desktop environment and haven't had any issues or reason to switch. I love apt as a package manager. That is all.

Why Are Some Hell-Bent On Teaching Intelligent Design?

MacColossus Re:More importantly (1293 comments)

This is easy. Man has free will and the Chinese government has a policy of one child per couple. In a society that treasures men over women and promotes abortion, isn't this the process of natural selection playing itself out.

The last time I used a dial-up modem was...

MacColossus Re:4 years ago (410 comments)

In February of 1997 I bought a 33.6 Global Village external modem and had Earthlink as my ISP. It was connected to a Power Computing Power Tower Pro 200MHZ 604e. I still regret giving that beast to my brother in law after I upgraded to a Powermac G4. Even at 33.6 I had a wall mount tv above the computer so I could watch tv while I waited for downloads.

PayPal Freezes MailPile's Account

MacColossus Re:Who leaves money in a paypal account. (443 comments)

It's poor form to use a referral link that will personally benefit you in this sort of context. It diminishes your point, making you look like any other spammer or paid shill.

Despite using a referral url, I will back them up in that Dwolla is much better for this. Also it can be set to auto deposit each transaction into your account as payments come in.

MacColossus The AIM alliance is back! (131 comments)

I can't wait for the return of Motorola Starmax, Umax Supermac and Power Computing's Power Tower Pro. I remember my Power Tower Pro was upgradeable to 1 GB of ram in 1997! Shut up and take my money!

Senator Feinstein: We Need Video Game Control

MacColossus Re:Feinstein calls for spoon ban (424 comments)

True. Same party and same thought process. The entire populace is not to be trusted based on the actions of a few. We must be saved from ourselves. Bring on the nanny state.

Senator Feinstein: We Need Video Game Control

MacColossus Feinstein calls for spoon ban (424 comments)

Congress has learned that spoons make people fat. Senator Feinstein is now announcing legislation in conjunction with a PR push by Michelle Obama calling for a ban or at minimum a tax on all spoons to put an end to obesity.

Let Them Eat Teslas

MacColossus Recoverable assets (461 comments)

I'm a big proponent of education. However I am guessing that the banks see a car as a recoverable asset as college tuition is hard to repossess. More risk in the financial world usually equals higher interest rates.

Martian atmosphere is 95% carbon dioxide. Plants like carbon dioxide. Now we just have to plant enough macadamia and pineapple plants to start terraforming and produce oxygen. :-)

Microsoft HD-DVD support a ploy?

MacColossus MacColossus writes  |  more than 6 years ago

MacColossus (932054) writes "According to this forum post by Transformers director Michael Bay, Microsoft is supporting HD-DVD BECAUSE it's the inferior format. They hope it will slow adoption of both HD disc formats while they perfect their HD digital download service. "All ur films belong to us!" This of course raises all kinds of anti-competition abuse questions if true."

MacColossus MacColossus writes  |  more than 8 years ago I need to be better about bashing Apple in my article submissions so slashdot will accept them. I just try to post info others might be interested in. That'll learn me! :-) I'll get to work on my "Mac OS X is a buggy piece of crap and everyone should run Linux so we can spend all day editing .conf files" article submission. As Stimpson J. Cat says....JOY!
