Buttons That Morph Out of Your Touchscreen

Martian_Kyo Re:Shapes and interfaces (134 comments)

Actually if this can be refined further you could actually use it for porn. Imagine feeling the curves of the porn star in the pictures, well you don't have to imagine anymore.

Buttons That Morph Out of Your Touchscreen

Martian_Kyo Re:Oh FFS (134 comments)

It's still better then having great marketing for a ridiculous product. Being wise does not only mean to be able to see through good marketing and spot bad products, but also to look past bad marketing to see good products. Are you really willing to ignore a good product cause of bad marketing, I mean even after you discover that product is actually good.

Dealing With the Eventual Collapse of Social Networks

Martian_Kyo Re:Friend-face (370 comments)

Too big to fail?
One could say it's....unsinkable....

Nerd pleeease. Nothing is too big to fail, history has proven that time and time again (Titanic, Roman Empire, British Empire, Napoleon, USSR...etc etc)... It's too big to fail NOW, but give it time, it will wither down (or is it wither up)...

Dealing With the Eventual Collapse of Social Networks

Martian_Kyo Re:backup your date to multisources (370 comments)

It's a pity I can't replace my hard disk every few years and ghost the old data in matter of few hours.

The difference is when the data is on MY hard disk it's under MY control, and I have the responsibility and power to replace it in time.

If facebook/flicker or any site decides to just shut down tomorrow without warning, I don't have time to react.

Hard drive's fail much more predictably then web sites.

NBC Apologizes For Editing Zimmerman 911 Call

Martian_Kyo Re:Error My Ass (1005 comments)

What was description of the perpetrator of this crime? Was it 'young black male'? If so would you really accept that as detailed enough of description to attack anyone, or be suspicious of anyone.

Tensions Between Archivists and 'Occupy' Protesters Over Preserving the Movement

Martian_Kyo Re:Yes, Let's Record All the Rapes and Assaults (153 comments)

Since that list is basically taking things out of context to make a point, I'll do the same This seriously

Occupy Toronto – Foot sniffer arrested

Seriously?

Occupy OKC – Young man with history of drug abuse found dead

Seriously?

Occupy Oakland – Yelling and nonsense at Burger King

As someone said, considering the number of people that gathered, and how long it lasted this list is not surprising or even high crime rate. I am pretty sure most of these things happen at music festivals( example ), or gun shows (search for gun show accidents provides a nice list) or sport events. Parent's post just gives data, which is not same as information. So instead of informative, it should be tagged as data...ful

Which Company Is the Largest?

Martian_Kyo Re:You can save a lot (378 comments)

When you are in business of selling overpriced needless trinkets (like apple is) you depend on the overpayed and overprivileged people to buy your stuff. It just makes you wonder when will the bubble burst?

Apollo 11 Flag Swatch Goes Unsold At L.A. Auction

Martian_Kyo Re:Who cares? (120 comments)

umm no. it wouldn't.
I'd rather have the dust of the flag that went to the moon, then a piece of flag that never did.
The eternal question. Is it better to live life or just survive it?

How To Succeed In IT Without Really Trying

Martian_Kyo Re:Not limited to IT (283 comments)

Yeah, I'm going to disagree with you there. I know the old saying, do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. But my experience is more like, if you do what you love for your 9 to 5, what do you do when you need a break?

I realized (much too late) that the better approach is:
Do what you like?
Keep what you love as a hobby?

Russia Backs Down On Skype, Gmail Ban

Martian_Kyo Re:ban at what scope? (52 comments)

True but banning applications is really not the best way.

To paraphrase the popular saying:
Applications don't leak information people leak information.

If your employees are stupid enough to discuss US invasion plans over hotmail, and you ban hotmail they will find even dumber way to discuss it trust me.

40 Windows Apps Said To Contain Critical Bug

Martian_Kyo Re:Really? (158 comments)

Since when is the fact that programs have bugs news.

Being a programmer is almost as depressing as being a meteorologist. People use your services/products on daily bases but only remember you when you get things wrong.

Also making a bug free application is almost as hard as making a faultless weather prediction for an entire month.

I don't know why we,programmers and meteorologist, even try (though programmers also catch and throw).

Bugs might be the future of computing

Martian_Kyo Martian_Kyo writes  |  more than 6 years ago

Martian_Kyo writes "Having a bug in your computer used to be a bad thing but not for long. From TFA:

Enter a beetle known as Lamprocyphus augustus. In a study published this week in Physical Review E, researchers at the University of Utah describe how the inch-long Brazilian beetle's iridescent green scales are composed of chitin arranged by evolution in precisely the molecular configuration that has confounded the would-be fabricators of optical computers."
