Which really seems to be the sort of thing that belongs in the configuration menu, if the addon author was actually being sincere.

NoScript Adds Subscriptions To Adblock Plus

MattHawk Re:Really Smart (408 comments)

It's not actually illegal. It is, however, apparently against the Mozilla Addon ToU (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/pages/policy) - that was the original terms under which the ABP author asked the NS author to remove the code in NS that intentionally harmed ABP's operation.

Slashdot Launches User Achievements

MattHawk Re:Missing Achievements (1582 comments)

A few holiday achievements would be interesting - Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, etc. Just to let everyone know about all those days you could/should have been spending with family, that you got to spend posting on Slashdot instead :)

France's Citizens Expected to Help Build Internet Blacklist

MattHawk So, let me get this straight... (213 comments)

... the idea is to blacklist kiddie porn, by expecting people to tell the government "HEY LOOK AT ME, I'M LOOKING AT KIDDIE PORN AND THIS IS THE SITE I'M AT!!!"? I mean, really, do they actually expect people to admit they have knowledge of these sites?

Wowhead sells out to Affinity Media

MattHawk MattHawk writes  |  more than 7 years ago

MattHock (215818) writes "Wowhead, the fastest growing database of World of Warcraft in-game information, has been confirmed as having been sold to ZAM (Affinity Media), owners of several other WoW databases, including Thottbot and Allakhazam. Until recently, Affinity was also the owner of IGE, a highly controversial company that sold in-game wealth for real life money, until Affinity recently sold IGE, which Wowhead claims as the reason they allowed the sale to go through. But did ZAM really sell IGE? Industy insiders highly doubt IGE and ZAM actually distanced themselves from each other, believing that the supposed sale was just actually a means of restructuring to hide the relationship, similar to how IGE's relationship to Thottbot was hidden for a number of months through a convoluted set of parent companies."

MattHawk (215818) writes "Last week, Blizzard implemented large scale bans for hacks and gold farming/selling operations. It came to light shortly after the bans were implemented that there was an apparent mistake, and a large number of Cedega users were caught up in the bans in addition to the hackers and farmers. After working with the Cedega development team over the last week, Blizzard has admitted their mistake, and unbanned the associated accounts, plus given them 20 day extensions on their accounts to help make up for their trouble."
