Watch 5 minutes of Russia Today. Fox News is fair and balanced, in comparison.

Continued Rise In Autism Diagnoses Puzzles Researchers, Galvanizes Advocates

Meeni Re:Medicalizing Normality (558 comments)

I retract that statement. I have no proof to support the claim. Unfortunately Slashdot doens't let one edit.

Continued Rise In Autism Diagnoses Puzzles Researchers, Galvanizes Advocates

Meeni Re:Medicalizing Normality (558 comments)

Homosexuality is not genetic.

Autism is linked to genetic (probably not only, but having relatives diagnosed increases one risk of having affected children).

Comcast To Buy Time Warner Cable In $44.2 Billion All-Stock Deal

Meeni Re:ogahdno (303 comments)

They do that anyway, so what.

At this point, we have an effective private monopoly. This merger should not have been allowed (actually wires and service should be split, like it is in Europe).

Tesla Touts Cross-Country Trip, Aims For World Record

Meeni Re:Range anxiety isn't really rational (357 comments)

European union has enforced a norm. So you could expect that this will become somewhat pervasive. Except if USA decides to come up with its own norm as usual.

Microsoft Researchers Slash Skype Fraud By 68%

Meeni Re:Don't want a legitimate account (114 comments)

You missed the point.

Your credit score being 830 makes you a successful member of society, by definition.

A low credit score is a verdict, you are a looser and a loner, true or not, it doesn't matter, the consequences are the same for you.

Scientific Data Disappears At Alarming Rate, 80% Lost In Two Decades

Meeni Yes and? (189 comments)

How is that different from the previous state of affairs?

Before digital age, Scientists would have work booklets that would get lost or destroyed when they change job, or when they become too numerous.

Drawning in an overflow of data is about as useful as having no data at all. It could be argued that forgetting is actually a good thing that puts forward important matter, those that we care to keep because they are valuable. Sure, some valuables get lost in the process, but anyway, who would go sort trough all data they ever generated, even if they had them available forever?

Apple Pushes Developers To iOS 7

Meeni Re:Everybody happy with iOS7 jailbreak? (336 comments)

IOS6 had a pretty poor UI design as well. It might have been prettier (subject to taste) but it was not very usable either. The poor state of affairs is that there is probably something to learn from Windows 7 at this point, in terms of interface consistency and logic.

Now, as for being pretty and everything, as long as it is not ugly, I am happy. IOS7 is not pretty, but its not ugly, so whatever.

Ask Slashdot: Can Digital Music Replace Most Instrumental Musicians?

Meeni Re:Music and muzack... (328 comments)

You may want to listen to better recordings on better quality hifi gear. Classical music is stunning when listened properly. Certainly not blend.

US Light Bulb Phase-Out's Next Step Begins Next Month

Meeni Re:We vote on leaders not lightbulbs (1146 comments)

They come as a gas/powder and can be inhaled when the bulb break, which makes them a stronger hazard than the low concentration contamination in fish.

On another node, it is not advised to eat fish at every meal because of, wait for it, potential mercury poisoning.

Venezuela: Cheap Television Sets For All!

Meeni Re:Get it now (702 comments)

To be fair, there is a way. Cut on quality, deliver less, and meet the new price target. A fridge is not rocket science, it can be made for -very- cheap. Additional gadgets like wireless connectivity and other crap can be removed (anyway these are margin makers, they don't cost nearly as much as what they retail for). Insulation padding can be reduced (operative cost will be higher, but the price point will be met). Etc.

French Court Orders Google To Block Pictures of Ex-F1 Chief Mosley

Meeni Re: Fine. (180 comments)

This kind of nonsense is prevalent in every country (the us is certainly not the last in this type of behavior). As a matter of fact, have you read the court order, because I would be surprised that a French court would not be careful about jurisdictional extent of the order.

And also, almost all companies have a French subsidiary, and France is receiving more investment money than most other OECD countries. But keep enjoying your misconceptions, "there is no such word as entrepreneur in French" and all that.

US Government Shutdown Ends

Meeni Re:Thank goodness (999 comments)

BS. The death panel are sitting in the private insurance offices. They are the people that deny you coverage after you have paid your premiums for 20 years /wo any serious illness. They are not in Obamacare, that has no public insurer, remember.

Weaponized Robots Could Take Point In Future Military Ops

I would even add that democracy ends when the army has no remorse shooting its people for unjust reasons. Robots are very obedient.

Cost of Healthcare.gov: $634 Million — So Far

Meeni Re:A deal at twice the price (497 comments)

All these examples are good, but they took years before they would work properly. Now using Expedia or whatever is just a fine slick experience. Using it w/o having the plane aggregator (that ugly blue square window that was common to most booking sites) crashing 5 years ago was another story.

I'm not really defending it, because beside the difficult parts, it seems that even the easy parts of what amounts to a glorified CMS are miserable.
