Metabolife Re:Technical People (194 comments)

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Bankers without oversight lie and steal. CEOs without oversight lie and steal. Techs without oversight lie and steal. Not everyone will follow this path, but you will always have a few.

I don't think you realize how much it costs to put a satellite into space. 2 hours of quick coding probably should be validated by a few different eyes.

Workaholism In America Is Hurting the Economy

Metabolife Re:What choice do we have? (710 comments)

Well if the job market is so terrible (for employees) and never getting better, then the obvious thing to do is to exploit that and become an employer. You can hire people for essentially nothing, and rake in huge profits for doing very little work.

This is essentially the problem. Your only primary path to success is a downward spiral where you become the scumbag taking advantage of the misfortunes of your fellow man.

Metabolife Re:Similar functionality to what? (408 comments)

The Logmein Central service makes it extremely easy to manage multiple clients and users on the same interface. That's biggest difference that I've seen.

You've entirely missed the point. If there aren't enough jobs POSSIBLE for everyone, that doesn't magically turn someone unemployed lazy. It means that society is changing, and they happened to be unlucky.

Scientology is Dangerous, and now they're Advertising directly to your Family

Metabolife Metabolife writes  |  about 10 months ago

Metabolife (961249) writes "Scientology is notorious for their crooked tactics to gain and prevent members from leaving. Following their superbowl ad, they've begun spending money on paid spots to draw in new members. Good Morning America actually takes viewers on a tour of their facility in the source video. What can we do to make sure that scientology is kept in check?"

Metabolife (961249) writes "This is an obvious promotional bit meant to get people to join the "Church". They go through the new building, the "superpower program", and have no negative comments at all. We need to shine more light on this."

Through the Eyes of a Tron: Legacy CGI Designer

Metabolife Metabolife writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Metabolife (961249) writes "Josh Nimoy guides you through the details of the coding and design that went into the special effects used in Tron: Legacy.

As a homage to the original Tron character Bit, we used icosahedrons, dodecahedrons, and similar. I was disappointed that Bit isn't in this one. After doing this simulation, I've grown more aware of how often fireworks are used in movies.

Ask Slashdot: Content Filter my Colleagees

Metabolife Metabolife writes  |  more than 3 years ago

Metabolife (961249) writes "So I'm running a small network with less than 50 workstations. Lately I've been noticing a lot of employees posting on Facebook and playing games during working hours. I'm on pretty good terms with everyone, but I feel it's my duty to do something for the sake of the company. Should I enable the content filter? I would be included of course."

Impressive First Benchmarks of the OCZ Vertex SSD

Metabolife Metabolife writes  |  more than 5 years ago

Metabolife (961249) writes "The new OCZ Vertex is even faster than OCZ expected. With write speeds approaching 250MB/s (64MB cache, writes are faster than reads), it could end up being an X-25 killer. This is on the pre- production v10 firmware, the release firmware may end up being a bit slower. Also of note is that the >=128GB versions are faster than the smaller models."
