Researchers Hack Intel's VPro

Mitchell Mebane Re:Another repeat: the unlockable lock (105 comments)

If you use LAME to encode your MP3s and play them on a supporting player, you can get gapless. Foobar2000 and Rockbox, at least, support LAME's gapless playback headers.

Wine Goes 64-Bit With Wine64

Mitchell Mebane Re:LUK (385 comments)

Recent development versions (1.1.8 and 1.1.9) had some improvements to memory management. Do you know if there still is "quite a big" amount of overhead?

Mitchell Mebane Mitchell Mebane writes  |  more than 9 years ago

Well, it's been a while, but it finally happened. ZSNES 1.40 is out the door.

I'm glad to have been able to play a small part in this project. The developers are great guys, and deserve major props for their hard work. You guys rock.

Oh, a bugfix 1.41 or 1.40a release is due soon.

Darn you, Wal-Mart, darn you to heck

Mitchell Mebane Mitchell Mebane writes  |  more than 10 years ago

Wal-mart finally did it. They raised the price of turkey sausage. A 1-pound package went from $0.75 to $1.06.

Grr.

I have decided to wait on the AiW 9700 Pro until the Geforce FX is out because there will probably be a medium-large price drop.

For a monitor, I am looking at the Samsung SyncMaster 900NF. I'm going to have to sell some stuff to afford it, but it looks like the best monitor in its category.

Speakers will probably be a good set of Sennheiser headphones.

eBay:
1x Voodoo 5 5500 64MB PCI video card - $63

eBay Total: $69.99

Total: $1006.95

1x 7200 RPM 30GB WD HDD
1x 5400 RPM 45GB WD HDD
1x Aureal 8820 PCI sound

I might not use the Aureal card. The nForce-2 is supposed to have a good onboard sound chip. I'll have to see for myself.

OS will be a combo of XP Pro, 98SE, and Gentoo Linux.
