Environmentalists Propose $50 Billion Buyout of Coal Industry - To Shut It Down

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Won't change anything... except (712 comments)

It will triple prices of elctricity, at least. What's going to cover what's left over, wind, nuclear, solar??? It time sure but not right now. They could convert coal plants over to natural gas but then you'll have the fracking nuts complain and try and do the same thing. hAck0r is right, they could use that $50 billion towards research and provide better solutions.

New York Passes Landmark Gun Law

Mr. Esterhouse Re:What about the existing guns? (1591 comments)

Not in NY, no. They have a year to sell of their old 10 round mags to people out of state. I live in PA and you can purchase any weapon you like, well for now. There are no mag limits. We also have a very extensive background check for every weapon purchased. We have to fill out forms for every gun and two government forms for hand gun. Before these recent shootings I could go and buy a 90 round mag for my AR-15. Right now you can not even find AR parts let alone ammunition for these weapons. The makers of these guns and ammunition stopped producing them until they find out what the new laws will be. I just do not understand why these politicians are not looking at the facts. You have Chicago and NYC, 2 of the top cities/states with the most extensive guns laws and guess what, they have the most gun related deaths. We don't live in a Utopia here and never will. There will always be despicable crimes no matter what laws they pass. Look at Australia, they nearly banned all guns and crime shot through the roof, no pun intended.

US Presidential Debate #2 Tonight: Discuss Here

Mr. Esterhouse Re:To WHOM is this OWED? (706 comments)

I thought that if the government wants money they go to the Federal Reserve and take out a loan. The money gets printed and they loan it at interest like any other bank. So as soon as the money gets created there's interest. We will never be out of debt if the Federal Reserve is in power and if you think about it if we didn't have debt there would be no money at all.

'Wiki Weapon Project' Wants Your 3D-Printable Guns

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Strong enough plastics? (570 comments)

Rifling helps out a lot more than you know. Sure they worked in the past but they were not accurate at all. You can shoot at something 20 ft away and miss the target by a mile.

Man Orders TV On Amazon, Gets Shipped Assault Rifle

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Sounds like win-win to me! (666 comments)

You are correct. However, as law states, the actual part of the gun that makes it fire is the lower receiver, which is the part that has the serial number. So all you would need to get is the lower receiver that was created on or before 1986. The reset of the gun can be brand new.

Man Orders TV On Amazon, Gets Shipped Assault Rifle

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Sounds like win-win to me! (666 comments)

Nope, you can own fully automatic weapons if your state allows it. All fully automatic weapons purchased must be from 1986 or older. You have to fill out forms, then have multiple background checks, pay a tax stamp of $200 I believe. Wait six months and order your gun. Might I add that your are looking anywhere from $5000 to $50,000 for a full auto.

Man Orders TV On Amazon, Gets Shipped Assault Rifle

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Sounds like win-win to me! (666 comments)

I'm pretty sure you can own semi-autos in DC. People get this confused a lot. A semi automatic gun is not an assault rifle, no matter how it looks. An assault rifle is a gun that fires more than one bullet with one pull of the trigger, i.e, machine guns. There may be a mag limit in D.C which would make it illegal if it shipped with a 30 Rd magazine. However, if he kept the gun and they found out he would have problems because guns, shipped via mail, need to be shipped to a FFL licensed dealer.

What Struck Earth in 775?

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Behind the Sun? (344 comments)

I'm no astrophysicist but I don't think is was a gamma ray that caused this. If it was it would have wiped out half or more of the Earth's atmosphere which would have been catastrophic to life on earth.

AT&T Repeats As Lowest-Rated Wireless Carrier

Mr. Esterhouse Re:AT&T (201 comments)

The majority of the customers who have a 0 or 1 probably just have a flip phone with no data plan. Flip phones cost nothing these days so if AT&T is terminating their service and contract they are hardly losing anything except for an asshole customer.

Sprint Cutting Unlimited 4G Data Plans

Mr. Esterhouse Re:They better stop advertising it as "unlimited". (325 comments)

I agree with you however I wouldn't mine paying these prices if they would use it to upgrade their infrastructure a little more. It's like Verizon plugging the shit out of FIOS here in Pittsburgh but guess what, they stopped rolling it out because it cost too damn much. Or when they talk about their 4G LTE network, buy this phone and watch movies, download music and games at the speed of light. Okay, I'm getting one of these devices, oh wait why is my bill $600 this month? It just makes me bat shit crazy.

PayPal Withholding Indie Game Dev's €600,000 Account

Mr. Esterhouse Paypay AND eBay (775 comments)

are terrible. I sold a laptop on there this past weekend for $1500. eBay charges me $70 for the sale, mind you that I didn't pay for extra pictures or bold print. Then PayPal takes out $40 for the money transfer. eBay made $110 off of the auction which is ridiculous. I canceled my accounts.

AT&T Loses First Legal Battle Against Verizon

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Truth In Advertising (214 comments)

This is a little off topic, but if there is one industry that desperately needs some Truth In Advertising laws enforced, its the wireless industry. I don't know why AT&T is so pissed. All the major carriers play up the smallest advantage they have over competitors as 'THE' deciding factor in who is the best carrier. How can Sprint AT&T and Verizon all have the best 3G networks like they each claim in their commercials?

Well AT&T claim to have the fastest 3G network, while Verizon says they have the largest. Both is true.

Verizon Droid Tethering Comes At a Hefty Price

Mr. Esterhouse Re:Say what? (555 comments)

Am I reading this right? They call the 5GB a month plan "unlimited", and charge $50 PER additional gigabyte (when they were perfectly willing to accept $6/gigabyte before you went over the limit)

Why don't they control usage another way? Say, if you go over 5GB a month, your data rates get slashed to 1/5 or 1/10 the normal speed, and the phone gives you an OPTION to pay an additional fee if you want your full speed restored. I actually think a cap is a good thing FOR PHONES because radio spectrum is a finite resource. Verizon only owns so much spectrum, and using current modulation technology, can only send so much data through the air in a particular cell at one time. There are high tech ways around this problem, but they cost a lot of money, and heavy users should pay more.

But they way they are doing this is just a trap basically. I bet the phone doesn't even tell you if you go over the limit, unless you look in some deeply buried menu. They are just setting you up for a huge bill during that one month when you actually use the phone's internet capabilities to their full potential.

And the phone had so much promise. They say the screen kicks the ass of the iphone, and that the CALL QUALITY is vastly clearer and better. I believe it - I had a CDMA phone years ago, and I recall it being nearly as clear and stable a connection as a land-line. Darn nokia phone would work everywhere as well. I've never, ever gotten service this good through ATT.

Actually the article says 5Gb's not 5GB's like every one is saying. If it was 5GB's it wouldn't be too bad but as it stands now the 5Gb's comes out to a little over 1/2 GB's, which is terrible.
