Sorting Algorithms — Boring Until You Add Sound

MrMe Re:The sound of bubble sort (118 comments)

That's strange. When I listen to the sound of bubble sort all I hear is one of my college professors threatening to hunt me down and kill me in my sleep if I ever use it.

I just hear my bong.

NASA Set To Launch Solar NanoSail Into Space

MrMe Solar Sail Durability (104 comments)

"One of the most difficult challenges solar sails face is trying to deploy enormous but fragile spacecraft from extremely small and compact structures. We can't just attach a giant, fully spread sail to a rocket and launch it into space. The journey would shred the sail to pieces," said Dean Alhorn, NanoSail-D principal investigator and aerospace engineer at the Marshall Center."

Space is always described as "hostile" - since solar sails are believed by some to be the only feasible option for interstellar space travel, which will require them being in space for a long time, what are the plans for improving their durability? It seems over time they would be shredded.

Is RFID Really That Scary?

MrMe Used improperly? (338 comments)

Is RFID being used when it shouldn't? Is it really that much more difficult to swipe your card than wave it? My US passport really should not be broadcasting anything, it should be swiped since there is no need to read my information from afar. If we limit the use of RFID to tolls and package tracking etc where it makes sense to read information without any human interaction, many of the privacy issues can be prevented.

Sandisk Debuts World's Smallest SSD Yet

MrMe Geek Version of 20 questions ruined... (222 comments)

I chose SSD for my "thing" in 20 questions all the time, now Sandisk has ruined it!

It's a thing.
Q1: Is it smaller than a breadbox?
Q2: Is it around the size of a postage stamp?
Q3: does it weigh less than a paperclip?
Is it a SSD?
Yes! Damn you Sandisk! You'll rue the day!
