IBM Takes System/z To the Cloud With COBOL Update

MrMr Re:What? (256 comments)

Exactly, Algol60 was the language that targeted Die-kstra. Seemed to have missed him though.

Open Ministry Crowdsources Laws In Finland

MrMr Re:the public is not to be trusted (181 comments)

What would have happened in the US would be that the Americans would invade the wrong country and start hunting muslims there, while sacrificing all civil rights at home. Good thing that didn't happen.

Europe Simulates Total Cyber War

MrMr Re:cyber attacks are launched from botnets, ergo.. (80 comments)

The command is explained in section 1 of of the man pages.
You would say 'sandbox (8)' for redhat (default SELinux enabled) systems. Claiming no OS today allows you to run an application that way is just a bit of friendly trolling.

Spam email that gets past any relevant filters ...

MrMr Re:Spam composition changed (183 comments)

I still make a difference between advertising and spam.
I'm glad the law around here doesn't anymore.
Unsollicitated bulk E-mail of any kind is treated exactly the same: The advertiser receives a warning and is fined if the spam continues. Despite popular opnion on slashdot that this cannot work, I have not received spam from any nearby company since early this year.
Apparently the real cause of spam is not people clicking on the ads, it is the people paying the spammers to send out the ads.

Cyberwarrior Shortage Threatens US Security

Surely you meant: "break into usajobs.gov and put an interview in the recruiters diary" ?

WISE Discovers 95 New Near-Earth Asteroids

MrMr Re:I'm a Member of the WISE Team (112 comments)

If the mission results are going to be used by the numbers two and three in IT, perhaps they could be persuaded to fork out an hours worth of bonuses to sponsor the project?

Best Browser For Using Complex Web Applications?

MrMr Re:My experience: (347 comments)

Really? You prefer to be forced to print on US Letter or A4, even when the closest shop selling that particular paper size is 5000 miles and an ocean away?

China Drops In Domain Registrations From #2 To #4

MrMr Re:.nl? (38 comments)

Probably partly because it's the oldest ccTLD. It also has a good standing for (local) business use, as it has been around and used in radio ads since the 80's.

A Battle of Wits On the Net's Effect On the Mind

MrMr Re:I can see that (218 comments)

I can skim it 100 times and will still not have understood it
Don't worry, it's probably just a symptom of a very common condition known as 'stupidity', most of my co-workers suffer from it.

MrMr Re:Computer/iPhone (373 comments)

I'm glad you replied. It saves us the trouble of putting down the 'your disease can be cured if you want it enough' loonies.
Especially as you are suffering from side-effects of an essentially 'herbal' treatment.

Apple's HTML5 and Standards Gallery Not Standard

MrMr Re:It works in Safari... (527 comments)

If that were true you might have a point. But this is just Apple being the biggest company in IT. I checked the canvas pixel manipulation and the 360 deg demo on Linux x86_64 with firefox by faking a safari 4 user-agent string.
I'd say Microsoft 2.0 is quite to the point.

Study Shows Standing Up To Bullies Is Good For You

MrMr Re:Or could it be (458 comments)

You never realized that getting hurt was at least as frightening for the bully?
You don't have to win the fight to make you an unattractive target.

Stem Cell Patent Halts Hospital's Collection

MrMr Re:How patently stupid. (223 comments)

I wonder who the company claimed as inventors on their patent application.
Knowingly leaving out the real inventors will get them more than just a slap on the wrist...
