Favorite Star Wars Movie?

Neanderthal Ninny Clone Wars.... (457 comments)

and they didn't even properly finish that series.
Season 6 which only has 13 episodes (normally they have 22 episodes per season) release doesn't finish with the beginning of the movie Episode 3:Revenge of the Sith. I wish that would properly finish Star Wars:Clone Wars so there is continuity between movie Episode 2:Attack of the Clones and Episode 3:Revenge of the Sith which the Clone Wars was intended to do. After Disney bought Lucas Film, they stopped the Clone Wars series, according to Dave Filoni, so they can work on movie Episode 7 and a new cartoon series The Rebels.
Nevertheless. I wish they would comeback to Clone Wars and finish the series.

Who should have the most input into software redesigns?

Neanderthal Ninny All of the above (262 comments)

IMHO it is users that are using the software so they should have a fair amount input for at user interface part of the software. Some managers are essentially stupid so I would let these managers near any of the development team. The worst is let some of "capital people" or "financial investors" try their hand in "assisting" in development, most of these "financial people" couldn't tell idea between their ass and a hole in the wall.

Inaccurate physics in movies ...

Neanderthal Ninny Remember, most movies are dealing with fiction (449 comments)

Since most movies are fiction so are laws of physics and many other things go out of the door also. I watch Star Wars or Star Trek purely for entertainment since we haven't gone beyond light speed yet or teleported anything larger than a couple of atoms. I watch movies for their entertainment value and not to score them in Mythbusters in categories of "Busted", "Plausible" or "Confirmed". As for documentaries or docudramas I do expect some accuracy in what they show (more in documentaries less in docudramas) so I do cringe when I see inaccuracies there.

I Name My Servers After:

Neanderthal Ninny Whatever they were reading or watch at that moment (722 comments)

I managed a development data center we have the system administrators of each group name their own servers (as long they don't exist already) and most common method I remember was what characters or objects they where reading or seeing on TV or movie at that time. At that time Star Trek, the next generation was out we had Picard, Number One, Wolf, etc.,

Last Typewriter Factory in the World Shuts Its Doors

Neanderthal Ninny Poor reporting (249 comments)

I assume no one really checked their sources before they printed this (what a dated word "printed") or out on the net. A manual typewriter is still good if the power goes out and you need to make a standardized letter for some reason. We nearly needed to use one this year because our accounting software developer made a mistake in creating 1099 forms this year. Yes, Royal and Olivetti still manufactures manual typewriters so this story is incorrect. There are still are several manufactures of electric typewriters that double as printer for computers .

Chinese Censors Crack Down on Time Travel

Neanderthal Ninny April 1 agian?! (154 comments)

or did Ground Hog Day and April Fools get combined now and I'm experiencing April 1 again and again.
Since they have essentially removed most reference of Mao Zedong from their history books now they are going after people attempt to change history. Even though I'm Chinese, but the communist Chinese always make me laugh with with their strange and bewildering policies with their people but their enforcement of certain laws against their are not funny.

Accidental Find May Lead To a Cure For Baldness

Neanderthal Ninny Is it still April 1st? (404 comments)

However, with this article on PLOS and reading it now it to go beyond mice and go to study on other animals to check so this idea will work eventually on humans. My assumption it will take 3 years before human testing will occur and I will be the first be in line to do the test. It will be another 3 years before it may become available to general public.

How has your opinion on the safety of nuclear power changed after the events in Japan?

Neanderthal Ninny Re:Seems just as safe as ever... (1148 comments)

Gee if my dad's 1969 Pontiac Catalina worked as well & without the pollution like these nuclear power plants of the same era, it would still be here.
I think they designed this facility to hold up in a major earthquake but they didn't think about the tsunami and at that time they didn't think about the tsunami that happened afterward. Remember that the facility was shutdown properly after the earthquake and was on generator power to pump water to cool down the reactor until the tsunami washed away the generators into the sea so it was only on 8 hour battery power and now we are at this stage. This is one of lessons that we all should learn about keeping systems pass their life and understanding to design systems for multiple contingencies including any worst case scenarios. However like so many for profit companies, safety is not a priority as BP oil spill has shown us. We need to have proper incentives for companies to build safe and punish them (not the company but the management personnel) if they ignore safety. We should have any system of this type to have continually updated with the most current safety standard and best operating procedures.
As for these nuclear power facilities, it should be moved inland to prevent swamping by the sea or other possible natural disasters.

Are We Too Reliant On GPS?

Neanderthal Ninny Re:Yes absolutely (325 comments)

It would be difficult to get VOR/DME or even ADF over the ocean. LORAN was turned off on August 2010 so limited but the last global terrestrial radio navigation system shutdown . eLORAN is active in UK but that is limited to that area now. We need another method of global terrestrial radio navigation system to augment GNSS if there was some problem with satellites due to solar activity or other issues.

Have a happy retirement "Father Time". I wish Arthur David Olson well and a good time off.
Thank you Arthur David Olson for keeping all of the timezones in the world for this many years which is thankless and somewhat of a painful job which has to navigate through all of those governments in the world.
Again thank you Arthur David Olson/

I saw a movie and other things on a airline flight with any external power for about 5 hours on my laptop.
However, being connected to internet at home the router is connected to a UPS that will last about 3 hours, At work we have generator power also so as long there is fuel for the generator, we can last a long time,

If You Think You Can Ignore IPv6, Think Again

Neanderthal Ninny If ISP keep control of their IP addresses (551 comments)

What I have seen on my firewall and I think there are plenty of IP addresses that botmasters, spammers and other criminals have used to hit my network. If ISP, and network administrators looked at all of the DHCP, unallocated IP address that comes from their networks they would have thousands of IP address they re-allocate to proper people or systems. Proper accounting of IP address by ISP needs to be priority before we can really say we ran out IP addresses.

Problem with Google.com, youtube.com and other Google internet services.

Neanderthal Ninny Neanderthal Ninny writes  |  about a year ago

Neanderthal Ninny (1153369) writes "I noticed on my network the www.google.com doesn't respond. I don't get an I checked with some 3rd party network check services like centralops.net or /downforme.org and they say google.com is up. I check my DNS server and the IP addresses 74.125.239.50, 74.125.224.144 and many more appear. I also used HTTPS and still nothing.
Anyone experiencing this problem?"
