Uninor to develop 2G Mobile Data Business

Niranjan Nallapothula (3568511) writes "Telecom operator Uninor and telecom firm Telenor, said that, they are expanding it’s business on 2G mobile Internet. The expected growth is about 100 percent by the end of this year with low cost internet plans starting from 50 paise per hour.

“We are now expanding strategy of Uninor from voice to Internet service. Also, we are moving out of volume-based Internet offering to service based. With news plans we are looking at both first user and mass market like students and other price sensitive segment,” Uninor’s nominated CEO Morten Karlsen Sorby said in New Delhi.

The company unveiled unlimited plans starting 50 paise an hour to Rs 15 a month for Facebook, and plans for cross-platform messaging service WhatsApp for Re 1 a day to Rs 15 a month."

South Korean carriers' sales suspension could harm early Samsung Galaxy S5 sales

Niranjan Nallapothula (3568511) writes "Samsung’s upcoming flagship Galaxy S5 could get off to a slow start in South Korea as the launch next month will coincide with a 45-day ban on local carriers selling phones, analysts said.

Samsung plans to start global sales of the S5 on April 11, with South Korea usually among the first countries to get a taste of the world’s biggest smartphone maker’s marquee products. But the communications regulator last week banned SK Telecom Co, KT Corp and LG UPlus Corp from signing up customers or replacing phones for dates ranging from March 13 to May 19."
