Would Scottish Independence Mean the End of UK's Nuclear Arsenal?

Pax681 Re:close to population (375 comments)

"Scotland has only been invaded by one country in the last 1000 years, it's a country to our south."

Why do you think that might be? Do you think, if say, Scotland was independent and the rest of the UK left it to fend for itself that you wouldn't have been attacked by the Nazis?

The whole reason Scotland hasn't been invaded by anyone other than the English in the last 1000 years is because the English have been running the single biggest empire in history for most of it and Scotland has thrived and been protected as a result of that.

"we just don't like the arseholes in Westminster telling us what to do (neither does large areas of England as it happens)"

Sure, and I'm in one of those parts of England where we have even less localism than you because we don't have a devolved parliament, but the idea of independence is far more retarded because we'd be even worse off again - sure we'd have more local politicians but you think someone in Glasgow is really going to be any more represented by a parliament in Edinburgh than they are London? All Salmond is selling you is that he'll get to fuck you over instead of the politicians in London, god only knows if Salmond's deal with Trump to overrule the rights of a Scotsman and his local council so that Trump could build a golf course isn't evidence of that I don't know what is - he doesn't give a shit about you any more than the politicians in Westminster and he's proven that enough times already.

Moving the place the people in control of you sit changes fuck all, increasing the accountability of whoever controls you and changing it to a relationship of serving you rather than controlling you is the only option to achieve what you're after, and you can do that far more prosperously in the union.

But perhaps instead of chasing independence you'd have worked with those of us in England to get that accountability and improved localism for the regions we might have got somewhere, but instead you're taking the worst possible option out of laziness.

Thankfully though, it seems that plenty enough Scots aren't quite retarded enough to take the stupid option that you're pushing so fingers crossed we can soon start focussing on a solution that makes sense, rather than one that's destructive fed by petty populist nationalist rhetoric.

fucking save me from this poorly constructed bullshit nonsense!
Westminster even drew up plans to LET SCOTLAND BE over run by the nazis in world war two .
you entire statement is 100% pure, unfiltered bullshit and you know it
here's a link to an article that is fully attributed and you can check it's facts.......
London plans to abandon Scotland to Nazis in world war two

Would Scottish Independence Mean the End of UK's Nuclear Arsenal?

Pax681 Re:close to population (375 comments)

It should be noted that the nuclear armoury is based only 15 miles from Scotland's most populous area, the city of Glasgow -- which in the politics of the union is totally fine so long as it's nowhere near English cities. The system has had multiple failures and there have been attempted coverups of accidents at Coulport (where the weapons are stored). The Royal Navy also stores the decrepit and rusting nuclear submarines at Rosyth, a mere 10 miles from Edinburgh, our capital city. Again the thought of storing these at Southampton or Portsmouth would not be considered because it's too close to English who don't want rusting nuclear vessels in their backyard.

Senior MOD officials have been on the back foot in this debate even though most UK military assets have already been removed from Scotland (airbases have been shut and army decimated). Rather like in a divorce where one party tries to remove as many assets as possible before a possible split. The problem with the nuclear armoury is that none of the other areas of the UK want it and it would be political suicide for an English MP to accept into their area.

Scotland, if the vote is YES next month, would be a small country and it would not be right to have nuclear arms. Scotland wants to set an example by not having them on our soil. Scotland has only been invaded by one country in the last 1000 years, it's a country to our south. Scots like the English (this is not an anti-English referendum) - we just don't like the arseholes in Westminster telling us what to do (neither does large areas of England as it happens)

Would Scottish Independence Mean the End of UK's Nuclear Arsenal?

Pax681 Re:Two weaker nations (375 comments)

That is what Scottish independence would mean. But WTF, break what is left of the Kingdom up if you must.

that is a piss poor attempt at emotive bullshit.... it's uyp to the people of Scotland to decide by voting for what they want. It would not make Scotland weaker.. fiscally it would be in a much stronger position and morally stronger too being rid of Westminster bloody awful foreign policy and involvement in illegal wars.
And ,as i said in a previous post, i say this as a veteran of the 3rd Battalion of the Parachute regiment with service in Northern Ireland,1st gulf war and Bosnia to name the ones you would have heard of.
your point if utterly weak sauce.. is Norway a weak nation????? nopes it bailed out the world bank from it's pocket change... Iceland is actually recovering rather nicely ...oh and Ireland is recovering faster and better than the so called "UK".... there are lots of small countries that do very well thanks very much and Scotland can be one of them

Would Scottish Independence Mean the End of UK's Nuclear Arsenal?

Pax681 Re:Of course it won't (375 comments)

Anyone stupid enough to just dismantle nukes instead of selling them is a moron.

I sure hope that fat stupid prick doesn't get in to power, Scotland will be destroyed. He is genuinely ignorant as to how international relations and economy works.

holy fuck... now here speaks a typical unionist.. this referendum isn't about Alex Salmond it's about the constitutional future and the future for our children in Scotland.
When it comes to who is the First Minister post independence.. that's what election are for you blatant fucking MORON.....
As for being ignorant on economics.. he's an economist and specialised in oil and worked in that for fucking years.
Thgis makes him more qualified than that pretty much all the Westminster chancellors put together.. such as the latest one.. with a degree in art history... I mean really? is this the best debate you can put forward? no nonder you posted AC.. typical unthinking dogmatic moronic unionist bilge.... just like the "better together2 campaign declared that if Scotland became independent the roaming charges would be horrendous in Europe for Scots... and this on the same day the EU announced the end of roaming charges.. LOL,
. You sir are genuinely ignorant.... about everything especially Scotland,it's politics, what would happen post independence and it's political personalities
Again I stress this referendum has nothing to do with salmond and everything to do with independence... hence the name.. the independence referendum!

Would Scottish Independence Mean the End of UK's Nuclear Arsenal?

Pax681 Re:Betteridge (375 comments)

Scoitland has been invaded by many groups of people and generally fended them all off from the Romans to the Vikings to the English.
however in 1706/7 from when the act of union was passed(in an illegally convened parliament btw ) GREED and corruption was used to sway the vote. the people of the time certainly didn't want the union as the riots all over Scotland from Dumfries,to ayr,Edinburgh,Glasgow,Aberdeen,Dundee.. all over testify.
Scotland was pout in a vulnerable position by naval blockade which ,apart from a shitty choice of trading goods, put paid to the Darrien scheme. Privateers were also commissioned to raid Scottish vessels too, then there was the alien act making it illegal to employ, trade with, house or shelter a Scot in England or even trade with them abroad
Now... while the towns and cities were actually ok for funds the merchants and noblemen were fucked by the failed investment in the Darrien scheme and also by the alien act.
A rather famous writer of the time was employed by the crown to bribe his way through the Scottish parliament and being in desperate need of funds or just being greedy corrupt bastards the vote got through
That was Daniel Defoe who was the paymaster and handler for the agents of the crown
Thus it can be said that the only country to totally defeat Scotland ...were... ourselves due to those corrupt fucks.
As a side note... if you look at the 'Bella Pasta' eatery on teh corner of the royal mile and North Bridge, in the basement of that building where the eateries toilet is now placed.. that's where the act of union was drafted and then completed for presentation to the parliament for the vote.
quite appropriate as it was concocted by shits and pushed through by shits and therefore ,generally,a bit of a shitter! ;)

Pax681 the VAST majority of Scots... (375 comments)

do not want the weapons stored in Scotland never mind 20 miles from our largest city.
The prospective sites such as in the Plymouth/Southhampton area were deemed "too close to population centres" for the MOD..... hmmmmm but it's ok to lob them next door to Scotlands largest most populated city???
and they wonder why the YES vote is rising and rising???? well that amongst other things.
What is HILARIOUS is unionists tryto say "oh but Scotland wouldn't not get into NATO" or some such utter bullshit..... again the vast majority of NATO members have no nuclear capability.
personally i cannot wait to cast my vote and get the unionm, irt's nuclear weapons and it's fucking hideous foreign policy and domestic policies to fuck out of Scotland.
At any rate the Mutually assured destruction philosophy ios hardly relevant these days in how wars are waged and they certainly don't deter any terrorist act.... and have never done....personally i'd rather spend the money of schools, hospitals and pther such projects to boost and enrich the population rather than squander over 100 BILLIONS on a replacement for those fucking weapons and i say this as a Veteran of the Parachute Regiment who served from Northern Ireland to the 1st gulf war to Bosnia..... Scotland Could Become Home To Britain's First Spaceport

Pax681 Re:Political background (151 comments)

nuclear submarine base

Indeed, now what are you going to do with an empty submarine base?

90% of its oil revenue

The UK is a net importer of oil these days - there is no oil revenue. You may be able to make a small profit on the last trickles, though.

permanent seat on the UN security council

Unlikely, but I know for sure who won't be on it...

That doesn't take into account the oil/gas off the West coast of Scotland nor does it take into account the Scottish stake of the Rockall claim.
BTW i'd hardly call 1.5 trillion barrels a trickle... and that's just the north Sea.
who gives a fuck about a seat on the security council to be quite frank???
As for what to do with an empty submarine base??? now that's EASY.. refit it as a support base much like the port at Nig off the north east which makes astonishing money servicing oil rigs, support vessels and exploratory rigs... combine that with a wee touch of the support role Aberdeen port plays and you have a winner... simple enough for you?

Scotland Could Become Home To Britain's First Spaceport

Pax681 Re:Must vote remain underlings (151 comments)

Bleh. If that's all you know about it I'd keep quiet and stick to your areas of competence.

Care to point out any times where Alex Salmond (or anyone else from that party) have publicly declared that their behaviour in executing such undemocratic power is reprehensible and it willbe for the greater good when that power is given up?

Or are you claiming that that's the only thing I know about the entire issue of independence? If the latter, then don't be a fool. Just because I have highlighted the best issue in favour of "yes" doesn't mean I know nothing about the rest of them.

I CAN!.. the Scottish National Party DO NOT VOTE ON ANY MATTERS NOT PERTAINING TO SCOTLAND IN WESTMINSTER!
This is a long standing policy and their response to the West Lothian as posed by Tam Dalyell. .... So.. care to actually state something that isn't patently and provably false?

Avast Buys 20 Used Phones, Recovers 40,000 Deleted Photos

Pax681 Re:Where the fault lies? (231 comments)

But how many people actually reset phone and reset data? I'd imagine a lot of people simply manually delete their photos and unhook their Internet accounts from the phone. Hardly a wipe.

But it's so easy to do on iOS. You can do it on the phone - Settings->General->Reset

And it wipes the phone - the flash storage is encrypted. Resetting it wipes the key and generates a new one. It then reboots and reformats the user storage using the new key and mounts it. The old data is irrecoverable because the key is lost, and the new data is written using a new key.

Even prior to encrypted storage, iOS3 created the option to do it where it erases and wipes the storage - anything 3GS and newer wipes keys (so wiping takes a couple of minutes), older ones took a couple of hours.

No reason Android can't do the same - either by sending TRIM commands to the entire user storage area and then forcing a write-all-with-zeroes to be doubly sure.

Android CAN do the same by simply performing a factory reset.. apple hardly had a fucking monopoly on factory reset functions in phones.
it's just that most normal users haven't a fucking clue and thus don't reset their phones to factory state and that's where the problem lies.

Better Together Campaign Abuse D.M.C.A to Censor Video

Pax681 Pax681 writes  |  about a year and a half ago

Pax681 writes "The Pro-union Better Together Campaign have been abusing the automated DMCA take down procedures at Youtube,Vimeo and Daily Motion in order to remove a video Top Ten Unionist Myths Debunked which perfectly legally uses excerpts from Better Together's own videos.
Under UK copyright law there are provision under "Fair Dealing" for using exceprts for "Criticism and news reporting" , much the same as the DMCA in the USA with their n"Fair Use" clause.
There have been more than 30 take downs thus far between the various sites. the video is currently being hosted by Pro-independence online Radio station Radio Free Scotland on it's Video Safe Harbour page.
No Matter what side of the debate you stand on this is clearly an attempt at political censorship abusing the automated DMCA takedown systems at those sites and worse a clear attempt to stifle debate in what is the most important debate in 300 years for Scotland and it's electorate.
Better together have apparently claim that the complaint was to "protect" the people in the video.. well.. the video's are all publicly available and if the BT Campaign was so worried it would not have asked the people to be in them Also this statement from them doesn't come under copyright at all and in itself shows that the DMCA/copyright complaint is actually utterly unfounded.
In True internet Fashion the video has also been popping up on youtube and other sites continually in a Streisand effect response. Radio Free Scotland have stated that they won't take the video down as it is clearly legal and legitimate in it's use of the excerpts to debunk the "myths" of the Better Together Campaign.
Slashdots thoughts on this abuse of the DMCA to censor?"

More Drama in the emerald Viewer Story

Pax681 Pax681 writes  |  about 4 years ago

Pax681 (1002592) writes "The Emerald Viewer Team seems to be just Two people now after Arabella Steadham and Lonely Bluebird shout out the rest of the Devs

Find a statement sent out this afternoon over Second Life to emerald users quoted in full Below Seems that trademark a has been applied for by Lonely Bluebird and thus i assume the rest of them, as suggested, will go off and develop their own brand of the emerald viewer and keeping it clean of emerald branding in any way.

looks like emerald will be taken off the approved user list... again! for now........

As you can see now thefrosums are abuzz with talk...

Dated: Sept 1st, 2010 1:15 EST. It is with great sadness and disappointment that I write this entry. As of some time this morning, all access to the servers have been severed to all but Arabella Steadham and Lonely Bluebird. Neither me, nor any of the other Emerald Developers have the ability to put out releases at this time. Beyond the recent beta 2587, we also cannot certify the safety or validity of any future releases. Now, I made a promise to everyone to disclose the remaining requirements from LL. Those final two requirements that were given to us by LL, was to have a release out by Friday September the 3rd that would not support emkdu or llkdu even if one of the files was present, and that Lonely Bluebird, Skills Hak and Discrete Dreamscape be removed from the project. The alternative was that LL would block the viewer from access to the SecondLife Grid. While Discrete and Skills gracefully stepped down, Lonely refused. A long argument ensued in dev chat and, I created a new dev chat, where most of us discussed how we could remove Lonely from the project, however it failed. Ultimately Lonely has removed access to the servers and has also stated that he is applying for trademark on the Emerald Viewer name. Preventing us from continuing on the project without him. Unless circumstances change, in my opinion, the Emerald Viewer Project is dead. We simply cannot achieve a release by the deadline given to us under the current circumstances. Without access to the server and website, I am forced to make a very difficult decision as I will not allow myself to be held accountable to anything that happens from this day on in regards to Emerald. With that said, I here by officially resign from the Emerald Viewer Project. I no longer have access to post on the modular systems blog, so I have created a temporary personal blog here http://jessicalyons.wordpress.com/ . It will be on this blog where I will post future developments with myself and possibly the remaining Emerald Developers. We are considering, (only considering) the possibility of creating a new viewer, to be on the TPVD, picking up where Emerald left off. IF we do, you will have the same features as Emerald Viewer. The motivation for this would be purely to give the existing loyal Emerald users a TPVP compliant alternative with a fresh future. I would like to thank, all of our dedicated and loyal users for your support through these difficult and confusing times. I would also like to thank our support team, for all of their hard work and relentless dedication to the emerald viewer project and to helping our users. Also to thank our beta testers who helped Emerald viewer be a quality product.
