PenGun Car Computer Access is Fun (85 comments)

Get him the appropriate hardware and software for the PCM in his car. I will soon be getting a Quarterhorse for my 93 Lincoln Mark VIII:

With one of the software editors, Binary Editor:

  And or perhaps EEC Editor:

You need an unlocked strategy and bin file for your car and with that in place you can control and tune your car to the moon. Dtat logging in real time for real events is a very powerful tuning tool.

My EEC-IV is actually an Intel 8061 and you can get even further into that with a disassembler etc.

Lots of fun tuning with modern cars. I will have switchable tunes when I'm done. One for mileage and one for power, for starters.

You are not paying attention to current events. Your philosophy is getting it's ass kicked.

I am not a nice person and watching the USA bite it big time is very funny. Irony is oozing out all over and the business section just cracks me up. You are not fast learners.

  Have a nice decade.

Midnight Commander Development Revived

PenGun Not just a file manager (304 comments)

You can do most anything from MC. I use it to play video, games many things. You can bind a file extension to a command and just hilight and hit enter (F9/Command/Edit Extension File/User). I run my 1000 doom wads out of MC as well as all my vids. Even play DVDs one vob at a time sometimes.

Hard to beat and manages files just fine.

First Look At Windows 7 Beta 1

PenGun Re:Compare with XP (898 comments)

Let me guess, you have some adequacy problems the software solves for you. I mean it is "love" right? mWhahaha.

The only useful thing I found Vista could do was shrink it's self. That made it last nearly a week on my lappy that came with it. XP sits where it was although I don't seem to need it much. Slackware 12 does everything I need the lappy to do.

09:50 PM ~# telnet localhost 22
telnet: connect to address Connection refused

Just turn off the sshd and it all goes away. Turn it back on as you need to.

Yes that is a 'time' prompt.

What Needs Fixing In Linux

PenGun Re:Depends on the intended use (865 comments)

You are not at all current it's obvious. I just put Slackware 12 current on my cheap ass, $550 with an extra Gig, Acer Aspire laptop and the kernel picked up everything but the sound. Some persuasion was needed but very little. Vista came on it. It was so crippled it was almost unusable. XP works but I spent a lot of time getting drivers for it.

Modern Linux USB is flawless, I use a USB GPS device and no problem. Plug in a mouse and she works right now it's a much nicer laptop with Linux.

Just delete all your dumb xorg.conf files and fire up X again. See if your problems don't go away.

  Slak rules as usual.

How to Deal With an Aging Brain?

PenGun Lift Weights (684 comments)

Works for me and I'm 62 ... or ... is that 63 ... damn. Really it works. I think it's the new mitochondrion produced that makes this work. Only way for an old guy to get younger.

RED's New Digital Stills and Motion Camera Pushing the Limits

PenGun Red is Low Res (219 comments)

A decent scan of a 4x5 will yield well over a Gig. 5000 dpi on a 4x5 is 25,000x20,000. Happily print to 70" at 360 dpi.

After 4 Years, HydrogenAudio Opens New 128kbps Listening Test

PenGun Crap (267 comments)

You can only listen to this truncated time shifted garbage through crappy equipment. Your little ear buds and horrible ipod amplifier deals at the very best just smooth the crud so it don't bite.

I don't like even CDs much but I'm spoiled. I know what good sound sounds like.

If you have to squeeze it use flac, the full CD file is just a 44100hz sample at best. Yeah nyquist yadda yadda but the overtones cannot resonate and all kinds of nasty timing events roil the mix. A good record with a nice cartridge will do 100,000 hz right to your tweeters. All the overtones to that level makes the sound you can hear much more real. Go to a live music event and pay attention. Your stereo should come close.

Ah I'm wasting my time, you are all already deaf.
