Bill Nye To Debate Creationist Museum Founder Ken Ham

PlastikMissle Re:Bad call (611 comments)

Bullshit. The theory of evolution does not require that you prove that god does not exist. It just redefines what god (if you believe in him) did and didn't do.

Bill Nye To Debate Creationist Museum Founder Ken Ham

PlastikMissle Re:Bad call (611 comments)

I'd upvote this if I have any points today!

I used to be a creationist who was closer to the fence than most, and it was material like this proposed debate that finally lit a bulb in my head and allowed me to cross over.

I listened to an old interview with the late Carl Sagan on Science Friday last week, and one of his bones of contention was the haughtiness of the scientific community in regards to reacting to pseudo science.

PlastikMissle Re:e-book reader? (53 comments)

If you take a backup of your device before the root you can always revert it to it's unrooted state whenever you need.

Scribd Launches a Global 'Spotify For eBooks'

PlastikMissle Re:e-book reader? (53 comments)

Just speculation here, but if they're going to offer an android app, then chances are that you can use it on any of the Android e-ink devices (Kindle and Nook being the most well known) after you root it. I have a rooted Nook Glow that is now basically an e-ink Android tablet. Not really well suited for games and video, but awesome when it comes to reading static text and images.

Work Halted On Neal Stephenson's Kickstarted Swordfighting Video Game

PlastikMissle Re:Yet another story... (124 comments)

GTA V (and all the rest of the so called A list games) are just rehashes of a proven formula. Anything that deviates from these proven formulas has a very hard time finding investors. That's why the market is ruled by sequels and me-too games.

To Boldly Go Nowhere, For Now

PlastikMissle Re:Why bother at all (308 comments)

The New World had untapped resources and (most of all) habitable lands up for grabs. It was for the most part a known entity.

Why We Need to Keep Our Night Skies Dark (Video)

PlastikMissle Re:Need Light For Security (130 comments)

Have you at least read the transcript? He isn't advocating the removal of night lighting. He's advocating LED lights that are focused downwards, which would not only help with the light pollution problem but is more efficient energy wise.

Ask Slashdot: Can Yahoo Actually Stage a Comeback?

PlastikMissle Re:Of course (260 comments)

"Bimbo" is miles different in meaning and connotation from "Bozo". "Bimbo", as I'm sure you well know, is derogatory term used to denote sexual promiscuity. Calling Mayers a bad business woman is one thing, but casting doubt on her sexual practices is uncalled for and if anything is indicative of the gross chauvinism in the geek world. And for the record I'm a guy.

I understand the "overrated" part, but why the "bimbo" part?

Open Source Projects For Beginners

PlastikMissle Re:All projects need your help. (212 comments)

So because it has a Fisher-Price interface (something you personally don't like) makes it's success irrelevant? Just because it doesn't say Linux on the sticker makes it somehow not Linux? That's exactly the sort of arrogance that has kept Linux away from the common users all these years.
