Russia Plans To Divert Asteroid

PrayingWolf Poor russians (305 comments)

These poor russians have a terrible inferiority complex, and most of their muscle-flexing is aimed at keeping their own people in check.

I definitely see this as just another in a looong series of similar irrelevant (as such) stunts only aimed at bolstering russians' image of their own country. For a decade or so the Russian media has been trying to paint a picture of Russia as the good savior of all mankind, secretly thwarting the evil plans of "America". They are a sick bunch, still just beginning to recover from WWII and Stalin's iron fist that killed tens of millions of their own people.

I feel sorry for them.

A.I. Developer Challenges Pro-Human Bias

PrayingWolf Asphalt roads! A.I. in its most dangerous form. (234 comments)

Roads are pretty "intelligent" as well, by the above definition. They've infiltrated all of society (can you name a town where these don't appear?), and have made humans their maintenance-giving slaves! Now the roads of the world have started to demand lighter color, by storing and emitting heat from the sun, thus furthering the greenhouse effect (blackmail, a sure sign of intelligence). Roads have us by the balls! And just think how much work it would take for you to destroy all the roads in the world... and they would resist, plus send their human minions after you. Remember this the next time you speed down a highway: who is really using whom?! Hmmm....

Why Our "Amazing" Science Fiction Future Fizzled

PrayingWolf Re:What went wrong? Innovation slowed down. (499 comments)

One word: sex! The "sexual revolution" came about in the 60s and most everybody has been so preoccupied with getting the next orgasm (and the quality of the orgasm) that there no longer is any striving towards improving lives in other areas - they just don't have the energy left over after finding the next sick pictures from the 'net or the next STD from a new partner. We need to return to God, repent of our perverse ways, and get back on track with productive, prosperous, creative and innovative ways!

To What Age Do You Expect To Live?

PrayingWolf 120 (575 comments)

Gen. 6:3 And Jehovah said, My Spirit shall not strive with man for ever, for that he also is flesh: yet shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.

Russia Aims Towards Mars

PrayingWolf Re:Russia Saves US Manned Spaceflight? (161 comments)

Let's not get carried away, the article begins with "We will soon propose to our government". This means nothing but "we are brewing ideas in our secluded labs". And Russia has more important places to put its money into so I doubt those ideas will get very far.

New Study Shows Solar System Is Uncommon

PrayingWolf Doh! (290 comments)

Doh! Ofcourse its "special" - Its created that way!

Ever wonder why all the planets have such different composition? The moon could not have come from the same lump as Earth, nor could the other planets. This is a divine hint: "I'm here, are you listening?"

Nokia plans to acquire Symbian Ltd, make OS open

PrayingWolf PrayingWolf writes  |  more than 6 years ago

PrayingWolf writes "In a move that could set the direction for mobile software for decades, Nokia has announced its plan to obtain all of Symbian Ltd. and to set up the "Symbian Foundation". The foundation's planned purpose is to move the platform to open source in two years, allowing for you and me to see inside the world's market-leading platform — and hopefully improve our code in the process (see details here: www.symbianfoundation.org).

Nokias plan (FTA): Nokia today annonced a plan to acquire the 52 per cent of Symbian it doesn't already own and set up the Symbian Foundation, making the platform open source in the process. The ambition is to create "the most attractive platform for mobile innovation and drive the development of new and compelling web-enabled applications" "

Wooing female gamers

PrayingWolf PrayingWolf writes  |  more than 6 years ago

PrayingWolf (818869) writes "One (more) count of problematizing womens' free will in CS by CNN: 38 percent of gamers are girls, but there are more men than women in the industry creating those games. How to make women go where they have not (voluntarily) gone before?

Sherry Floyd, a game designer at SOE's Seattle studios says "I honestly don't think it's a gender issue, I think it's a marketing issue."
Courtney Simmons, public relations director for SOE, who helped spearhead the G.I.R.L. program and enjoys playing video games with her three children, believes that women are being "gamed down to," because, she says, "there is a lack of understanding about how women play."
Simmons wants to see "more women making games, making more games that women want to play."

What do you think? Are women being "gamed down to" or are women just smart enough not to waste time on (developing) games?"

PrayingWolf (818869) writes "OpenBSD 4.0 has been released today!

Improvements include better support for speedstep technologies and support for various ARM-based systems.

The song for this release is "Humppa Negala", which is based on a familiar jewish theme, Hava Nagila.

About the song (FTA):
OpenBSD developers have been torturing each other for years now with Humppa-style music, so this release our users get a taste of this too.

PrayingWolf writes "The song for OpenBSD 4.0 is out!

Another fresh production from the guys at OpenBSD! This time a song that feels even stranger than the previous ones: the traditional jewish theme "Hava Nagila", typically sung at weddings, has been used as the basis for "Humppa Negala" — a song of celebration for another set of CDs being delivered on time (OpenBSD 4.0 will be released Nov 1, 2006).

FTA: "OpenBSD developers have been torturing each other for years now with Humppa-style music, so this release our users get a taste of this too."

The song is nice, IMHO; nice and jewish, albeit a somewhat crude and barbaric arrangement. This brings us to the characters: Pufferix and Bobelix. Pufferix is obviously another face for the cute OpenBSD pufferfish mascot, and Bobilix is clearly his bigger, faithfull friend...
It is unclear exactly how Pufferix and Bobilix fit into the scheme of things here, but maybe it has to do with the festivities found in the famous comic books of Goscinny & Uderzo.

Here is a translation of most of the song (from hebrew):
Humppa neranenah.......sing humppa
Venismechah.......and be glad!
Uru, uru achim!.......awake, awake, brothers!
4 X Uru achim b'lev sameach...awake brothers with happy heart
2 X uru achim!.......awake brothers
OpenBSD!

The only question remaining is: do Pufferix and Bobilix eat wild boar? Let the argument begin!"
