How the Wayback Machine Works

Proud Geek Biggest ever? I don't think so! (134 comments)

I once worked on a site with a 25 year old database that was much larger.

The ancient magnetic storage took up several warehouses. Beat that, for biggest database ever!

First Post!

Proud Geek Proud Geek writes  |  more than 13 years ago Well, it's my journal, so I get first post.

I got in to work this morning to find out that the client has revoked our database access on his production server. Apparently he feels that our testing is putting too much extra load on it. It looks fine on our boxes, but they're not so big, and the multi-processor configuration may reveal extra problems. He seems to do everything in his power to delay work. Oh well, so long as he keeps paying, I can't really complain.

I don't see what his problem is anyway. Our new setup should reduce the load by more than a third over what it is now. The people who wrote the original code were a bunch of nobs. They optimized the C middle layer, but used the database for synchronization and threw random inserts all over the place.

Anyway, back to the grind. MySQL rules!
