History Will Revere Bill Gates and Forget Steve Jobs, Says Author

Real_Reddox Re:The big difference here is (679 comments)

Interesting, will do.

I don't know Gates, so I can't defend him, it's just that most people here seem to instinctively hate him. Which I find weird, I mean, he is doing some good.

And if I was trying to do good with a shitload of my own money, I would like total control of where it went, not just hand it off to some foundation.

Sixty Years On, B-52s Are Still Going Strong

Real_Reddox Re:Extend the lifespan of B-52 beyond 2040? (403 comments)

Well, is the B-52 still being produced? According to wiki it isn't. The fuselages will be pretty old by then.

The C-130 J that is now being produced, while basicly the same shape (it's longer), is also equipped with new avionics, engines, instruments and pretty much everything else, so it might not be a great example.

The question is whether they are proposing to use the same old fuselages or if they want new completely new B-52s

Flying Car Makes Successful Maiden Flight

Real_Reddox Re:Not a flying car (249 comments)

No but when you have a flying object that refuses to obey orders the common reaction is to launch fighter-jets.
That car chase might end up quite different than the perp had in mind

Meet the Hackers Who Get Rich Selling Spies Zero-Day Exploits

Real_Reddox Re:Kind of shady? (158 comments)

Well, Lobasomething apparently subscribes to the belief that all soldiers are mindless robots without consciences. It should go without saying that this isn't true. There is such a thing as illegal orders, and it's every soldier's duty to not follow orders he or she believes are illegal.

if a soldier hears his superior yell "fire", he shoots, no questions asked.

As a soldier, I can only note your lack of insight in how the military works.

Time to Review FAA Gadget Policies

Real_Reddox Re:The other side of the story (292 comments)

that could require taking the aircraft out of service for weeks at a cost of six figures or more of lost revenue per week

All aircraft are regularly grounded for days and weeks for maintenance reasons, they could just install them then...

How? If I turn off location tagging, how can I possibly be tagged at a location?

Real_Reddox Re:Seriously, why? (117 comments)

It makes it a LOT easier to keep in touch with friends, both local and friends in other countries. Its a useful tool, at least for me.

Real_Reddox Re:Seriously, why? (117 comments)

Depending on your privacy settings you can limit tagging.

I would also hope none of my colleagues are dumb enough to post "On super secret recce-mission with *name*, lol. Location: Afghanistan"

You have a point though, that facebook can be used to collect quite a lot of information, thats why its important to be aware of these issues, to keep sensitive stuff off it. And/or use a fake surname.

Real_Reddox Re:Seriously, why? (117 comments)

Its not a massive security risk to use facebook. It all depends on what you post there. They probably use FB for the same reasons everyone else does.

Video Game Violence

Real_Reddox Real_Reddox writes  |  more than 7 years ago

I'm a 17year old boy from Norway, currently living in Ny as an exchange student.
In Norway, I play a lot of video games, both on my 360 and my PC. But my host mum here in the US is against all video games, and especially violent ones.
She quotes studies that states how games affects the mind of the person playing them and how bad they are for you etc.
My question is: Are there any studies that shows that videogames don't affect the person playing them. Or any good arguments I can use?
