Opera Proposes Switching Browser Scrolling For 'Pages'

Ricken compromise (320 comments)

Hmm, I like the "Pages" part, but I don't like the "ads" part. Lets compromise: No pages, no ads. Great!

Video Game Playing Increases Food Intake In Teens

Ricken Subjective game... (99 comments)

It must truly depend on the game. In FIFA 09 you can surely go for a sandwich before issuing that free-kick? Or get some chips in half-time? In other games this often isn't the case. After playing some World of Warcraft one could be starving, yet go on for another hour easily.

HTC Invests $40 Million In OnLive

Ricken Re:Competition! (48 comments)

Yes, but OnLive could surely use a lot of more servers (world wide). I tried some demos, with a 100/100mbit optical fibre connection over here in Sweden the latency was unbearable, not to be unexpected as they only have servers situated in the U.S. amirite?

The Rise and Fall of Graphic Adventure Games

Ricken Try Magicka (134 comments)

Magicka is a new adventure game that is quite original. If you don't know what it is, check the video "WTF is Magicka?" by Totalbiscuit/Halibut(?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_XP9OBWGKo The only negative thing right now is that there are quite a few bugs in the game, but the devs are on it.

Slashdot Launches Re-Design

Ricken Re (2254 comments)

Nothing wrong with the looks per-say (as others have said, too much spaces... of whiteness... whitespaces, yeah), but it's definitely sluggish. It's choppy to browse comments, and I'm on my stationary gaming PC running Chrome!

Amazon, Not Developers, Will Set New App Store's Prices

Ricken Re:Didn't do the math (294 comments)

They don't even have to reject it, they can just set the retail price to $2,000,000,000. Granted, it wouldn't sell, but still.

Is it just me, or did this link to pixelated nudity get slashdotted much faster than the usual links?

Can Movies Inspire Kids To Be Future Scientists?

Ricken RE: (298 comments)

They sure worked on me. I wanna be either a sci-fi actor or a scientist.

The Strange Case of Solar Flares and Radioactive Decay Rates

Ricken Re:Just to pre-empt it... (408 comments)

There's only one way to find out. We have to predict a solar flare, and travel through the gate at that exact time in order to go back 6000 years in time.

Japan To Launch Solar Sail Spacecraft "Ikaros"

Ricken Thin sails (138 comments)

The spacecraft's 46-foot-wide sails are thinner than a human hair and lined with thin-film solar panels.

Won't that easily break if something even touches it? (lots of space rock going a few km/s out there, or am i totally off?)

Scientists Turn T-Shirts Into Body Armor

Ricken Not bulletproof. (213 comments)

Yet TFA says nothing about this armor being bullet-proof, as this slashdot article clearly states.

Only that “We should be able to fabricate much tougher body armors using this new technique. It could even be used to produce lightweight, fuel-efficient cars and aircrafts.”

Professors Banning Laptops In the Lecture Hall

Ricken I have a suggestion (664 comments)

Why don't they just make sure the students can't get a wireless connection in the class rooms? Shouldn't be too hard, I heard there are wallpapers that can do that these days.

Conveying my "geek" skills to an employer

Ricken Ricken writes  |  more than 4 years ago

Anonymous (797341) writes "How can I tell my future employer that I have an excellent ability to work in a team but can also handle individual stress exceedingly easy thanks to my 7 years of playing Counter-Strike, without mentioning the game part? I've seen articles talk about how organizing a successful World of Warcraft guild can develop great leadership abilities, but how do you actually put it in your letter or CV?"
