Command & Conquer MMO a Possibility?

Ruger AGREED!!! All downhill since Westwood sold it. (159 comments)

The original C&C by Westwood had an AWESOME story line...with Michael Biehn, James Earl Jones & Kari Wuhrer in some of the title roles.

What Did You Think Of The New Star Trek Movie?

Ruger Re:In the words of an ancient tagline... (592 comments)

Star Wars is a western, Trek is an old WWII Navy saga. The captain goes down with his ship and stops the invasion/attack by the enemy fleet (in this case one massive powerful ship).

While I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, I've always though employing time travel in any plot was a bit of a Sci-fi cop-out...unless it's crucial to the story (e.g. Terminator).

Microsoft Says No Profit In Vista-XP Downgrades

Ruger Only certain Vista titles are eligible for down... (315 comments)

...grade. An XP "downgrade" can only be purchased with a Business or Ultimate version of Vista. So if a customer is looking at a configure-to-order laptop such as with Dell or Lenovo, then in many cases customers have to upgrade their OS from Home Basic or Home Premium in order to get the XP downgrade option.

Is this charging more for XP...in many people's minds, yes. But legally (Full disclosure: IANAL), they are paying for the Vista upgrade, not for the XP downgrade.

Apple Laptop Upgrades Costing 200% More Than Dells

Ruger Re:Not even close to the same (935 comments)

Everything in an Apple (aside from the OS/software) is basically the same as what's in any windows PC. In fact, in some cases, Apple uses older/inferior components. The SSD in their Air laptop is a generation older than the SSDs in the Thinkpad X300.

It seems pretty clear that they are charging a premium for the CTO service, and not really charging more for the parts. The factory install is what you're paying for.

New Lenovo N20p Chromebook - is this your next laptop?

Ruger Ruger writes  |  about 9 months ago

Ruger (237212) writes "I think the Chrome OS has gotten to a point where I can strongly consider it for my next laptop. Since I don't use my laptop for any serious computing (e.g. gaming, work, office apps, etc.) I think it's suitable/superior for email, browsing & media consumption. I've tried a tablet, but I find I miss the keyboard. Just wish this folded all the way back like the Yoga.

The future of online commerce - Lenovo eLounge

Ruger Ruger writes  |  about 6 years ago

Ruger (237212) writes "Launched during CES this year, Lenovo and Nortel have created a virtual store, manned by avatars (sales people and product specialist) who are happy to talk to you about specs & product features...you can even buy a laptop. The environment uses the Unreal engine. Interaction is talk, not chat. You can interact 1 to 1 or 1 to many. There are even videos and demos that a visitor can participate in. The experience is very rich and growing. When will more eTail sites spring up? When Home Depot launches their store, will you still have trouble finding someone to cut your virtual boards?"

ThinkStation available on lenovo.com

Ruger Ruger writes  |  about 7 years ago

Ruger (237212) writes "Last November, Lenovo announced the launch of a new workstation...ThinkStation. The announcement was covered by numerous trades (e.g. Computer Business Review, etc.) and Lenovo's press release claimed the "ThinkStation marks more than ten years since a major PC vendor has entered the workstation market." The S10 single processor version is now available on lenovo.com with either Vista or DOS OS. As expected, the configuration options are plentiful."
