Duke Nukem Forever Gets Delayed - Again

Ruvim Danger zone! (222 comments)

I would consider moving away from wherever company that will be releasing/distributing DNF is located. Because we just know, that just when they are about to release it, a meteor or aliens or Godzilla will attack that area and destroy everything in vicinity, preventing it from being released.

Universe 250+ Times Bigger Than What Is Observable

Ruvim Re:I'm confused. (506 comments)

We are not located at the center of the universe. Which means that if universe is expanding with at least speed of light, we would not be able to see at least the half of the universe that is expanding to the other side from the center. Now, how does it approach 250+ times bigger? More beer and some additional funding will surely find an answer.

So, when the lights came back up again, did they recount the warheads, to make sure that they are not missing one to Ocean's 11?

Google To Shut Down 411 Service

Ruvim Sad to see it go.... (156 comments)

This was a great tool for calling businesses while driving, Google would even text the matching result if I wanted a record on my phone. I think I would even be willing to pay a small monthly/per-use fee for this service, as long as it's under $2/call current AT&T directory assistance rip-off.

HDBaseT Supporters Hope To Kiss HDMI Goodbye

Ruvim Re:Haven't we learned anything from PS/2 connector (336 comments)

Well, if they are just expanding on existing Ethernet/PoE wiring standard and just using "leftover" twisted pairs for video/USB, etc..., it should work just fine if you plug in your regular LAN cable (with or without PoE) into the new HDBaseT port.

Boston Dynamics develops an 11-lb robot that can jump 30 feet into the air,

Ruvim Ruvim writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Ruvim (889012) writes "Boston Dynamics has developed a "Sand Flea" 11-lb robot that drives like an RC car, but when it needs to it can jump 30 feet into the air. An onboard stabilization system keeps it oriented during flight to improve the view from the video uplink and to control landings. This youtube video shows its amazing trickery."

CA's eTrust antivirus update goes berserk

Ruvim Ruvim writes  |  more than 5 years ago

Ruvim (889012) writes "CA's eTrust antivirus update started to mark its own files as a malware, as well as quarantining other uninfected binaries. CA has followed-up with new update, but "suicide" update has caused massive disruptions for some IT departments, having to deal with loads of PCs that had files missing. Dynamoo's Blog has details and proposed workarounds.

Makes you wonder what kind of qualification process was involved in anti-virus signature update..."

Ruvim (889012) writes "M. Gorbachev, the former president of the former Soviet Union asked Bill Gates and Microsoft in general to not litigate a teacher in one of the Russian school. The teacher, Mr. Ponosov is said to use dozens of pirated software copies, mostly from Microsoft on school computers, used by kids in a country school. BBC has details. I say: pardon the guy just on the basis of his name! ("Ponos" = diarrhea in Russian)"

Ruvim (889012) writes "It has been mentioned in previous Slashdot discussions as possibility, and now it became a reality: Informationweek.com reports that a spoofed server has been released that can be used to activate Microsoft's Vista Enterprise versions. It is being made available on several pirate Web sites and spoofs a Key Management Service server, used to activate a large number of copies of Windows Vista in enterprise environments."
