Ask Slashdot: Most Efficient, Worthwhile Charity?

Rynor Wikipedia (570 comments)

Wikipedia might be a nice option too, the knowledge they provide to everyone free of charge makes it a good charity in my opinion.

Teach Your Router New Tricks With DD-WRT

Rynor Re:DD-WRT works, but Linksys WRT54GS chokes 21 Mbp (257 comments)

The Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH works for me, with openwrt firmware that is. The default firmware is some kind of modified dd-wrt which has an awful "buffalo" interface and kept dropping packets. I tried dd-wrt as well but that gave the same problem with the choked bandwidth (in contrast with the buffalo firmware), the openwrt firmware is pretty easy to set up on this router and works perfectly for me, allowing the full use of my 120 mbit connection.

The Most Useless Key On My Keyboard Is...

Rynor Re:Windows Key - More useful than most think. (939 comments)

You can actually disable it as a windows key with a registry hack, and then use it for something useful, like a PTT key for voip apps. (You can change either keys, so for me the left windows key is for PTT, while my right windows key still has it's original function)

Linux Kernel 2.6.31 Released

Rynor Re:Linux audio (374 comments)

Pulseaudio is a bit strange, but nothing requires it's use, and IMHO there is no real reason for it to be used unless you want to do somewhat strange things (that you generally can't do on any other type of OS).

Like per-application volume control that no other OS provides (except Windows Vista and higher, Mac OSX, etc)?

Windows Drains MacBook's Battery; Who's To Blame?

Rynor Re:Don't use bootcamp, but I use Fusion (396 comments)

Except that Microsoft is not a PC vendor, and since you're running Windows on a Macbook you already have bought a license from then so why should they want to sabotage their own business ?

Unusual Physics Engine Game Ported To Linux

Rynor Not recently ported (117 comments)

This Penumbra trilogy has been on Linux for a while, the first game ran on linux somewhere in 2007 iic, so it's definitely not recently ported... the only news here is that it's perhaps cheaper now, so it's a nice slashvertisement.

That being said, these games are pretty cool if you like survival horror / adventure games.
