For League of Legends Creator Riot Games, Big Data Is Serious Business

Slotty Re:"League of Legends gaming franchise" (33 comments)

More accurately: isn't it just one rip-off? It's just DotA.

Seeing as League of Legends was created by the guy that created DotA he didn't rip it off he just decided to take his own work and develop it into a successful business instead of relying on the ever trustworthy Blizzard who has the best intentions for all their community based developers

South Korea Surrenders To Creationist Demands On Evolution Textbooks

Slotty Re:Obligatory question (640 comments)

You are arguing a philosophical world view.

Your argument: "I believe there is no Supernatural creator that exists outside of the boundaries of the natural world."

You can only observe the natural world using tools designed to explore, evaluate and quantify the natural world (science and everything here is fine). You have concluded from this that is all there is and there can be nothing beyond. (philosophy)

Science can not explore anything outside of the natural world so demanding proof for the existence of a Supernatural creator that exists outside of the boundaries and confines of a natural world seems illogical to me.

The leap from "I observe the world in this way therefore there is nothing beyond my world" is I think the issue here. Could you please briefly explain to me how you came to this conclusion that there can exist nothing beyond the scope of what you can observe?

Not trying to stir you up just seeking to clarify the point that Science and a Naturalist world view are not one in the same thing

Selling Used MP3s Found Legal In America

You're not transferring over P2P networks. You're duplicating something and transmitting the duplicate without actually losing the utility of the object yourself.

Controversial Cybercrime Bill Introduced In Australia

Slotty Write to your MP (103 comments)

Handwrite a letter and get up in arms about it!

Constituents writing a letter scares politicians and when it's done by hand they get even more spooked. Pen to paper equates to genuine concern.

Conroy Still Hell-Bent On Internet Filter

Slotty Re:Conscience votes (254 comments)

Worst part is policy isn't even dictated by representatives. It's dictated by media frenzy or party hollowmen. The ABC's hollowmen is actually a very realistic representation of governance.... Just not as funny

Court Grants RIAA Summary Judgment Motions vs. Limewire

Slotty Re:In Summary (170 comments)

In answer to your question this is probably the best excerpt:

First, Dr. Horowitz has not opined on the parties’ state of mind, but rather has provided information on the design and functionality of the LimeWire program. See, e.g., Horowitz Report 56 (“Although Lime Wire LLC professes to be agnostic about what files are transferred using LimeWire, LimeWire’s feature set is optimized for downloading popular audio files.”); id. 57 (noting that the design of LW’s “user interface” supports the download of music files); id. 66 (opining that the use of a “Classic Rock” genre category has the effect of generating search results containing unauthorized works); id. 70 (discussing that some of LimeWire’s features are “potentially confusing” to users).

I guess what I'm really not getting is, if Joe Schmo gets caught using his 1979 Impala to haul illegal copies of Free Willy DVDs, will the RIAA/MPAA sue Chevrolet?

GRANTS Plaintiffs’ motions for summary judgment on the claims against Gorton and Lime Group for inducement of copyright infringement, common law infringement, and unfair competition

It's about the intention of the company. If GM was marketing cars on the sole basis of "This car has so much boot space you can haul illegal DVD's to sell" then the money grubbing associations might be entitled to get annoyed

Ogg Format Accusations Refuted

Slotty Re:Well written, and informative, but... (248 comments)

Yes Rullgard's piece from the excerpts seemed to be technically incorrect. However I was simply trying to point out that the response piece imho was long winded and to convoluted to be effective.

And as other people point out there are some underlying issues in the format but if people don't like it they don't have to use it :)

Ogg Format Accusations Refuted

Slotty Re:Well written, and informative, but... (248 comments)

This was well written?

The authors response in no way enticed the audience to keep reading.

Informative yes... Well written I don't believe so. But his admission to poor documentation is a nice sign of humility you rarely see in today's world

Cows On Treadmills Produce Clean Power For Farms

Slotty Do the same with Life Sentence Prisoners (640 comments)

I'm sure people will get all up in arms over this but why not put prisoners on a treadmill or exercise bike and make them generate electricity.

Have them do it on a rotating roster and you have base load power...

Just a thought

I'm pretty certain they considered it considerable collateral damage in Iraq

US Rejects Demands For ACTA Transparency

Slotty Re:People are fighting ACTA = Useless (351 comments)

Not sure how you reasoned any of this but I'm really sorry for any pain caused to you by people that share the same spiritual beliefs as me.

As for the ACTA well the majority of the time I'm against governments that try to anything outside of the scrutiny of the public they represent of course some national security issues may require information to be with held... Not sure how the US seems to justify it or my precious Australia for that matter.

Oh well it's an election year here so time to start letter writing!

Could Colorblindness Cure Be Morally Wrong?

Slotty Re:WTF? Just ask the patient. (981 comments)

It alludes to the issue of saying that your genetic make up is not good enough. I believe it was a popular concept in the late 20's early 30's called Eugenics a man named Hitler put it into practise. As pushing-robot (1037830) wrote:

Liberalism and Atheism Linked To IQ

Slotty I think Georges Lemaitre would disagree (33 comments)

Monsignor Georges Henri Joseph Édouard Lemaître was a Belgian Roman Catholic priest, honorary prelate, professor of physics and astronomer at the Catholic University of Leuven. He sometimes used the title Abbé or Monseigneur.
.

Lemaître proposed what became known as the Big Bang theory of the origin of the Universe, which he called his 'hypothesis of the primeval atom'.

New Wave of Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria

Slotty Re:Use the Immune System (404 comments)

When antibiotics and antiviral research was first being used, they used methods of stimulating the immune system to a better response. But when chemicals proved easier, research switched to that. If we can get the immune system to fight them off itself, we won't have these problems.

Yes but then large pharm companies will have no money.

Lief's a BALANCE people, & there are very few "absolutes", because people are not "binary". Human beings have a LOT of "shades of grey" (or, is it "gray"?? Inquiring minds, want to know, lol!)

The answer to this important question is grey. I read it in a book so it has to be true

Australian Police Database Lacked Root Password

Slotty Brag about it and get snapped! (214 comments)

They had an entire episode on one of the current affairs TV shows here in Australia dedicated to cyber crime. The very next day this article came out.

The way they were talking on the TV show you're lead to believe they worked hard and displayed decent technical knowledge and skills. Nice to know my tax dollars pay for a department that doesn't even have a secure server. However according to the article the police stated that it was a seperate network with no actual worthwhile data or connection to the real network

Moblin 2.0 Released, Intel's Linux For Netbooks

Slotty But does it play... (142 comments)

My netbook serves primarily 3 functions

  1. Web Associated activities most heavily flash related because that's how everyone rolls now
  2. Word Processing I'm a P/T student Essays & Reports :(
  3. Music & Movies

If I can't do all these things out of the box on a Linux distro I'm going to fall back to windows because after messing about with the relatively mainstream RH & Debian based distros I can't be stuffed reading through forums to work out how to tweak for making things work in Linux anymore.
