TSA Doing Random Truck Searches On Tennessee Highway

Snarky McButtface Re:What happened to the constitution? (578 comments)

With all due respect, weigh stations are not used to deter smugglers. I have never had my freight inspected other than to ensure it was properly secured and complied with HazMat (hazardous materials) regulations, if applicable. Their purpose is to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Compliance is determined through inspections. Honestly, weigh stations are pointless. It is trivial to route around a fixed point.

Snarky McButtface Improve the moderation system (763 comments)

The user moderation is a great feature but it is abused by some. A system to detect the users abusing moderation would be nice. If a user is found to be consistently violating the guidelines for moderation, said user should be ineligible to receive mod points for a set period of time.

Hitachi-LG Fined $21M For Price-Fixing Optical Drives

Snarky McButtface Re:Free Market capitalism (98 comments)

Initially there were more than 100 regional cellular phone companies. How many are there today? Unless you are in some place like Wyoming they do not exist. Merger after merger left us with basically four shitty choices.

Google Patents Glove For "Seeing With Your Hand"

Snarky McButtface Re:Patent This Gesture (58 comments)

I would but I discovered this gesture 25 years ago. If some does file a patent for this gesture, I have proof of prior art.

US Gov't Lobbied EU To Approve Oracle-Sun Merger

Snarky McButtface Re:It's only right! (169 comments)

I love US grammar and spelling, don't you? It somewhat sets the tone for the view on Americans in general.

Let us put it this way, with a debt load of I believe 85% of your GDP it's only a matter of time. The US will default especially with given the political climate you are in now. No compromise, no new taxes, etc. Where do you think you will get the money to pay off the debt based off your GDP?

Face it, Gilligan and Cheney drove the US into the ground with the over spending. Now the recession they created only makes it work because the more you spend to get out of it the more you put yourselves in the hole. It sucks as nobody wants to see it happen but you can only go on for so long.

I love it when non-Americans denigrate the US while using American slang and alluding to American television.

It is already starting to bite them in the ass. In most third world countries the primary cause of death is infectious disease and in most developed countries it is heart disease. In China it is cancer.

Interview With GNOME 3 Designer Jon McCann

Snarky McButtface Re:Translation: (294 comments)

The whole point of any software is to make something efficient and useful. Gnome 3 is anything but efficient. I used it for several weeks. I do not mind making minor changes to make something better suit my needs but the changes the Gnome team made were ridiculous. Rather than fork it, I did what most users do when a FOSS project makes changes they find unacceptable. I uninstalled Gnome and installed something else.

Facebook Says That Google+ Has No Users

Snarky McButtface Re:Google+ (360 comments)

I do not think it is a false sense of privacy. My main concern with social networking is offending someone, either a friend or employer, with a post. Google+ makes it simple to segregate content.

S&P's $2 Trillion Math Mistake

Snarky McButtface Re:doesn't make much of a difference (1040 comments)

You are correct. I did misstate the S&P credit rating of AIG/Lehman. To be honest, I do not know what to think of any of the ratings agencies. The UK maintains the highest credit rating even though it's debt to GDP ratio is 151 percent while the US has a debt to GDP ratio of 100 percent. Both nations continue to accrue debt but the United States is a higher risk for defaulting?

S&P's $2 Trillion Math Mistake

Snarky McButtface Re:doesn't make much of a difference (1040 comments)

I find it difficult to believe their reasoning is sound. The other two ratings agencies, Moodys and Fitch, have no plans to downgrade US debt. Standards and Poors also gave AIG and Lehman Brothers AAA credit ratings up til they crashed and burned. Then there were the mortgage backed derivatives issued the same AAA rating by S&P. The United States does have some serious long term budget problems but the credit downgrade is just political posturing.

Apple patents touchscreen unlock gesture

Snarky McButtface Snarky McButtface writes  |  more than 2 years ago

Snarky McButtface (1542357) writes "Apple has been granted a patent on unlocking a smartphone or tablet using a predefined gesture. The patent was originally filed in 2009 and it took me 15 seconds to find prior art. In the end, it is we, the consumer, who pay the price of the patent wars through limited choice and higher costs. What can we do to end this nonsense?"

Snarky McButtface (1542357) writes "Google is "almost certain" to face prosecution for collecting data from unsecured wi-fi networks, according to Privacy International (PI).

The search giant has been under scrutiny for collecting wi-fi data as part of its StreetView project.

Google has released an independent audit of the rogue code, which it has claimed was included in the StreetView software by mistake."
