London Police To Wear Video Cameras In Pilot Project

Starvingboy Re:Lets be realistic (152 comments)

What if your boss told you "I want you to wear a camera that records EVERY SECOND while you are on the clock". Would you willingly accept?

Ever work a call center job? Everything is recorded. You get used to it, and learn to play it to your advantage. Welcome to the real world.

New Houses Killing Wi-Fi

Starvingboy Re:Its insulation, and not new (358 comments)

. You really want 12 gauge as a minimum, with individual runs from the breaker box to EACH outlet, 10 gauge if you can afford

I'm as big a fan of Overkill as the next guy, but just think for a second how big your breaker panel would have to be if you had ONE breaker per outlet.

UK's Channel 4 To Broadcast In 3D

Starvingboy Re:3D is gimmicky at best, painful at usual (126 comments)

Meh. I expected the same, but went to a "3D" movie that I wanted to see anyway. I have to say, it was pretty cool. The movie avoided the typical cheezy in your face shots, so I'm sure that helped. Big Thumbs Up for "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs" if you're into silly kids movies.

Massive Power Outages In Brazil Caused By Hackers

Starvingboy Re:Why? (462 comments)

Often, they do when installing new lines. A lot of this stuff is REALLY old, and nobody want to touch it because if it breaks, you have to spend a LOT of money to update the entire thing.
Also, it is often cheaper to just get the circuit from the phone company.

Landmark Health Insurance Bill Passes House

Starvingboy Re:My Issue Is... (1698 comments)

I don't get this line of arguement. I don't ask insurance to feed and maintaine myself or my car. The only time I contact either is a "Uh-oh" situation. My few medical run-ins have resulted in horrendous bills that require months or years to repay. Calling the current system "competetive" is laughable, everyone I know (Doctors included) hates it, but nobody knows how to make it better.
That being said, my faith in the government to fix things is shaky at best.

Starvingboy Re:Jehovah's Witnesses? (709 comments)

I have to ask: Is your quote for real? I had a good friend, Bruce Clark, who was a Jehova's witness, who I'd not put it past him to have said that sort of thing... Blew my mind when I read it.

Freshman Representative Opposes "TSA Porn"

Starvingboy Re:Cancer risk? (620 comments)

Meh, perhaps I didn't make it clear enough. I just want to try it with pair of RF shielded boxers. I don't care about the metal detector, I'll let them try to figure out why it's going off and why their scanner does not work. Last time I read the rules, they did not have anything banning silver threaded underwear. It's not banned, nor dangerous, therefore they must let me pass. Blank stares and shrugs should answer any other questions sufficiently.

Freshman Representative Opposes "TSA Porn"

Starvingboy Re:Cancer risk? (620 comments)

I'm not worried about the "danger", I just wanted to check around before I drop $100 on RF impervious underclothing (yep, it exists). It could be fun if they put those scanners in at my local airport.

Freshman Representative Opposes "TSA Porn"

Starvingboy Re:Cancer risk? (620 comments)

Since you are the only +5 I found with any vaguely scientific information, any idea if RF shielding clothing would block this scanner?

Starvingboy Missing Option: Real food (457 comments)

I actually like to eat real food. Before I quit going to movies, I'd bring quesedillas, or a pizza or similar from the restaurant across the street. The ticket takers never even looked twice.

US Declares Public Health Emergency Over Swine Flu

Starvingboy Re:Yawn (695 comments)

Guess we'll just have to wait to see how the thing plays out. If it's as bad as the 1918 bug, I doubt if there is a heck of a lot we can do to slow it down. I just don't see how fanning the flames of hysteria (as I see on the news) is going to help much. Maybe I'm watching the wrong channels, but I'm not seeing them mention survival rates, just body count and a color coded map of suspected incidents that narrow it all the way down to the STATE level. Just my opinion, and hell, I'm an IT guy, so that counts for bunk :

US Declares Public Health Emergency Over Swine Flu

Starvingboy Re:Yawn (695 comments)

Sorry, I'm just not that worried about it. Perhaps I'm just oversaturated with TV News disasters that never actually effect midwest USA. You can assume this is the 1918 flue-redu and hide in your basement if you like. Myself, I'm going to go to work tomorrow like normal. The fact that it's spreading rapidly in Mexico city, which is known for poor sanitation and overcrowding does not surprise me. So far the reported survival rate looks decent, I'll take my chances. It's still a bit early to seal up the bomb shelter in my opinion.

US Declares Public Health Emergency Over Swine Flu

Starvingboy Yawn (695 comments)

Yawn. Just another "Disaster of the week" the news outlets are hyping to boost their ratings. I'll be concerned when it becomes more than nervous hand wringing by the talking heads.
