Why Atheists Need Captain Kirk

Stumbles Re:Arguing against a strawman (855 comments)

The nice thing about strawman arguments is the ease at which the one proffing the strawman is able to drink their Kool-Aid.

If Tesla Can Run Its Gigafactory On 100% Renewables, Why Can't Others?

Stumbles If solar power is so reliable then.... (437 comments)

why does the worlds largest solar power plant need/want to supplement their power generation abilities with natural gas?

Telsa has some grand plans and it might work for them but to expect for example a steel plant to follow suit shows just how ignorant most of you are.

Drought Inspires a Boom In Pseudoscience, From Rain Machines To 'Water Witches'

Stumbles Re:What's the problem? (266 comments)

Pay for performance? No well drilling business would remain a business with that type of model. You clearly have no clue about business or the costs to own and operate such a rig. I used to help a inlaw that owned his own well drilling business and if I were to suggest that to him he would laugh in my face. You can have the most accurate geological maps and the best geologist but that in no way guarantees that hole will have water or if did the flow would be enough for residential use.

Drought Inspires a Boom In Pseudoscience, From Rain Machines To 'Water Witches'

Stumbles Re:Devil's Advocate (266 comments)

Your caveat is exactly right. I used to help a brother in law that had his own residential well drilling business. There were many times a hole ended up dry or could not produce enough for a home and we would have to move the rig elsewhere. And yes, the customer had to pay for the dead hole. Running a drill rig is not cheap.

Drought Inspires a Boom In Pseudoscience, From Rain Machines To 'Water Witches'

Stumbles Re:What's the problem? (266 comments)

Your flaw is thinking a geologist can say "drill here" and find water in a usable amount every time; not.

Now I understand the emphasis on bringing foreign workers to my country. Its citizens and governments are trying their damnedest to turn us all into morons.

Asshats indeed. They are equally offended because they don't have the wherewithal to enter a field unless they are given special consideration and handled with kit gloves.

So do I. The analysis done at Groklaw in my opinion was more than top notch and a joy to read. I was saddened when PJ announced its closing.

Can Our Computers Continue To Get Smaller and More Powerful?

Stumbles Re:Too much power dysfunctional (151 comments)

That is why I say it really doesn't matter. Software bloat as you say gobbles up much of the progress.

Can Our Computers Continue To Get Smaller and More Powerful?

Stumbles It ain't gonna matter. (151 comments)

I have been using computers since the early 80s. Things like the HP2114, Varian 77 and other stuff that never saw the light of civilian day. My I7 with 16GB ram boots no faster nor gets into a usable state than the HP2114 with 8k of core memory and used discrete components to construct a CPU.

Will they be able to process more data, yeah probably but that won't matter cause they'll just be given more data to munch so you will still need more machines. And so the cycle goes.

Getting IT Talent In Government Will Take Culture Change, Says Google Engineer

Stumbles Re:How much was done in-house? (166 comments)

Bureaucracy is a dirty word, the more there is the less efficient. It has been discussed endlessly citing many examples from businesses and government. Though I do agree there are those and it is not limited to the corporate world that think cheating the taxpayers is the way to go.
