Chain Reaction Shattered Antarctica's Larson B Ice Shelf

Sun.Jedi Re: Somehow this will all be Obama's fault. (232 comments)

Healthcare was rising, by my paystub, at 1% year on year. This year... 6%. And the plan services were weakened. This is not a good thing.

Microsoft Has Been Watching, and It Says You're Getting Used To Windows 8

Sun.Jedi Re:UI design (675 comments)

Should not require the user to "become used to it" in order to use it.

Pretty limiting flaw in your logic. If they never change anything, they'd never get better.

Disclaimer: Not a fanboy. I only use MS for gaming and have no plans to move to 8.

Official Doc Reveals Oracle's Cloud Rules

Sun.Jedi Re:re 99.5 pct availability (84 comments)

There is a difference between what the workers are paid, and a demonstrable loss to a business during an outage. The loss to a business with fines and penalties can very easily run higher than 500k. And, that's not counting the reputation loss in the industry, which can account for a great deal more.

New Hampshire Cops Use Taser On Woman Buying Too Many iPhones

Sun.Jedi Sales tax and lies (936 comments)

While not entirely germaine to this discussion of quantity limits, exporting iPhones, presumed innocence, and iElectricity I hadn't seen this part mentioned yet.

There is only one reason to skip most of the apple stores near or around Newton, MA. It's to avoid the Massachusetts sales tax, as New Hampshire has no sales tax. She was reportedly carrying $16k in cash so without paying sales tax, she would be able to purchases potentially 2-4 additional iPhones.

I think she knows a bit more English and "how things work" than her story would otherwise have us believe.

Chinese Firm Wins Bid For US-Backed Battery Maker

Sun.Jedi Re:And? (183 comments)

Because I didn't give it away. Some group of assholes did. Most of whom I did not vote for.

If it's any consolation, more than half of your fellow countrymen (based on voter participation) are OK with that "group of assholes".

If you look around and everyone else is an asshole, what does that suggest......

That the country formerly known as the US is now officially Upper Mexico? And more than half full of assholes.

We were robbed when tax dollars were spent on green energy.

Russia and China Withdraw Bid For Internet Control

Sun.Jedi Re:The Pattern (115 comments)

While I fully agree with what you just said, what do you imagine happens to the price of a commodity with finite (and thus diminishing) supply and increasing demand?

We won't have to worry about running out of oil for a bit; somewhere around 100 years depending on which source you believe. The price fluctuation is a game for profits, nothing more. This can be observed by the distribution stream, where people are paid NOT to produce at full potential, creating false demand. Also, the futures are suspect when a moth farts somewhere in the Middle East and the price immediately goes up -at the pump-, but there are no outcomes (aside from near miss global economic failure apparently) which cause an equally sudden decrease. Given advances in technology for producing and moving this stuff around, one could assume that the price would remain more stable It's a scam.

MPAA: the Impact of Megaupload's Shutdown Was 'Massive'

Sun.Jedi Re:Yes, yes it was. (308 comments)

There are movies out there the studios should be paying people to watch (not the other way around) because they are just that bad. Do those people need to be compensated as well? If you answer with something along the lines of compensated with a shovel to the face, I agree.

MPAA: the Impact of Megaupload's Shutdown Was 'Massive'

Sun.Jedi Re:Doesn't help (308 comments)

It's not stupidity, its recon. Using the non-standard word in many mediums rather quickly reveals people with large sticks firmly wedged up their asses. These are usually people that can safely be ignored without any meaningful loss.

MPAA: the Impact of Megaupload's Shutdown Was 'Massive'

Sun.Jedi Re:Doesn't help (308 comments)

I too have all but given up buying new movie content, unless there is something special or magical about it. My BRD collection is about 4 movies. I chalk up my much larger DvD collection to not knowing any better. Disney is on the same list as Sony and Walmart; I vote with my wallet, but it seems not many others do.

They are, in fact, the crowd that believes they are entitled to your money; i.e. consumers OWE them, regardless of the content.

Seas Rising Faster Than Projected

Sun.Jedi Re:Don't regret. You were just a kid. (605 comments)

I had the science teacher who informed us so knowingly that climate change would come about because ice would sink to the bottom of lakes and seas, in turn cooling everything down. Yes, I enjoyed the next week off for pointing out that ice, in fact, floats. Well, maybe it was the way in which I presented a counter-argument... IIRC it had something to do with the Titanic and his mother. ;)

Navy Seals Disciplined For Revealing Secrets As Consultants On Video Game

Sun.Jedi Dummies (204 comments)

It's rather upsetting the SEALS were not using common sense. I thought these were the best and brightest. How much brain power does it take to know they probably should have asked permission, or at least notified someone they were assisting with a game. Equally sad is that MOH:Warfighter had tons of exciting potential in the theme but ended up predictable and lackluster in the delivered product.

FBI arrests DC official, raids Fed CIO's office.

Sun.Jedi Sun.Jedi writes  |  more than 5 years ago

Sun.Jedi (1280674) writes "I heard this story on the Laura Ingraham radio show, and found a news link here.

Before the crack of dawn Thursday morning, more than a half-dozen cars and SUVs full of FBI agents pulled up to the northwest, Washington, DC, home of Yusuf Acar, the head of IT Technology in the Washington DC city government's Office of the Chief Technology Officer. The FBI agents, wearing bullet proof vests, presented a search warrant to Acar, handcuffed him and arrested him.

The story goes on to link Vivek Kundra, the current Obama CIO, and how his office is being raided as part of the Acar arrest.

The straw that broke the camel's back: How many Obama nominees are under investigation, have admitted wrongdoing, or have declined a post in the Administration? I've lost count."

Copyright Royalty Board sides with Apple.

Sun.Jedi Sun.Jedi writes  |  more than 6 years ago

Sun.Jedi (1280674) writes "I ran across this article from CNN. There are some 'interesting' quotes from both Apple and RIAA members with regard to the decision. Notably, even in victory, Apple affirms that it does not want to change the price of songs on iTMS nor pay the difference. Speakers for EMI and the RIAA were able to find solace in a change from a fixed-per-song rate to blanket 8% for digital as well as CD sales. Thats important to note because CD sales are dramatically falling; purchases fell approximately 20% last year alone."

How to find old ./ account?

Sun.Jedi Sun.Jedi writes  |  about 6 years ago

I want my original uid.
It would be nice to have a search feature for old e-mail addresses.

In all actuality, I probably used an obscure e-mail to register and wouldn't remember. I am fairly sure it was a really low number too (10k).

I had nothing else going on, and came up with this. Weak, I know.
