Know a way to ADD not REPLACE the user-agent in Chromium? Everything I found so far is for REPLACEing the user agent, not for adding to a user agent, like adding your EULA.

Illinois Law Grounds PETA Drones Meant To Harass Hunters

TechwoIf Re:clearly... (370 comments)

Nevermind the fact that spaying and neutering is essential to keeping pet populations in check.

What about vasectomy and tubectomy? All the benefits of population control without the negative side effects.

Fee Increase Attempt Inspires 'Dump Your Bank Day'

TechwoIf Re:Honestly (667 comments)

This is why I've keep with https://www.tabbank.com/ for many years. Years ago when I was having money problems, I notice I never got overdraft charged, but my card got denied making a $5 purchase. It shocked me at first, but having a $5 transaction denied instead of getting hit with $25 overdraft fee is much better. My last bank hit me with a $100 overdraft fees due to delaying a deposit 12 hours. That right, that $25 overdraft fee keep the account in the red even after the deposit went though. Fucking Basters is what I call those banks.

Devs Worried Microsoft Will Dump .NET

TechwoIf What about C#? (440 comments)

Sence C# requires .NET to run, will it get dumped? As far as I know, every C# program out there that I've seen required .NET before I could download and run it.

Disorderly Conduct Charge for Offensive Classmate Ratings

TechwoIf Re:Yes. (371 comments)

Whoops, forgot to mention that this is a civil to civil offense, not a gov to civil or civil to gov offense. The freedom of speech only covers government censoring stuff. Not civilians censoring stuff.

Disorderly Conduct Charge for Offensive Classmate Ratings

TechwoIf Yes. (371 comments)

Good. Because free speech does not equal freedom of responsibility. If the government prevented him from posting it in the first place, then it is a freedom of speech issue. In this case, they charge him/her with disorderly conduct after he/she posted it. Note they have not order the post erased, although I am sure the sites will remove the posts anyway for TOS harassment violations if they haven't done so already.

Do You Really Need a Discrete Sound Card?

TechwoIf Re:Hardware mixing (520 comments)

That is well and good. But try to play two programs at once that access the sound device at the same time and all the CPU in the world won't help you there. Who would want to play more then one sound at a time? Try playing some music while the desktop plays a notification sound. Or while online in a vitriol world, play a media stream while attending a music event.

Do You Really Need a Discrete Sound Card?

TechwoIf Hardware mixing (520 comments)

What about hardware mixing? The bane of Linux users that found out there sound card can't handle more then one program using the output at the same without going through some insane hoops. There been a few sound servers to address this shortcoming.

Allow owners of used cell phones to break access controls on their phones in order to switch wireless carriers.
Allow people to break technical protections on video games to investigate or correct security flaws.
Allow college professors, film students and documentary filmmakers to break copy-protection measures on DVDs so they can embed clips for educational purposes, criticism, commentary and noncommercial videos.
Allow computer owners to bypass the need for external security devices called dongles if the dongle no longer works and cannot be replaced."

Internet Archive wins against a FBI gag order.

TechwoIf TechwoIf writes  |  more than 6 years ago

TechwoIf writes "From the Internet Archive page: The Internet Archive was served a National Security Letter by the FBI demanding information about a patron of the Archive. The Archive fought it with the help of the EFF and ACLU. We won. We can now talk about it, and what it is like to get a secret demand. We hope that this will be useful for the others that will receive these powerful demands."
