you have it backwards. the dollar was worth 1/350 of an ounce of gold - now its worth a mere 1/1600. the inflation you fear has already been here for a good 10 years.

however, the establishment applauds your ignorance.

France To Launch a National Patent Troll

The AtomicPunk Re:Godwin (179 comments)

No, she didn't - despite thousands of statists hoping you believe so.

Rand had publicly stated that opponents of statism should collect benefits as restoration of funds taken from them by force, there would be no reason for her to hide it. She would have been more likely to flaunt it.

"It is obvious, in such cases, that a man receives his own money which was taken from him by force, directly and specifically, without his consent, against his own choice. Those who advocated such laws are morally guilty, since they assumed the “right” to force employers and unwilling co-workers. But the victims, who opposed such laws, have a clear right to any refund of their own money—and they would not advance the cause of freedom if they left their money, unclaimed, for the benefit of the welfare-state administration."

Then, there is this interesting piece of evidence against the claim:

Social Security Death Index
Name: Ayn Rand
SSN: 571-32-9405
Last Residence: 10019 New York, New York, New York, United States of America
Born: 2 Feb 1905
Died: Mar 1982
State (Year) SSN issued: California (Before 1951)

Doesn't look like an alias to me.

Yes, just like happened with the automotive industry when robotics were introduced. Efficiency doesn't eliminate jobs in our economy and never has. People move to new endeavors and society benefits.

Draft Proposal Would Create Agency To Tax Cars By the Mile

The AtomicPunk If it moves ... (932 comments)

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it. - Ronald Reagan

No U.S. Government Shutdown This Week

The AtomicPunk Most of you need to wake up. (385 comments)

There are 3 types of people responding to this:

1. Those that blame the Republicans.
2. Those that blame the Democrats.
3. Those that actually get what's going on.

Until someone is willing to have the balls to tackle both the military industrial complex and entitlement programs, neither side is serious and neither side actually disagrees on anything of substance.

This might help some of you come to grips with the problem:

Note that if you eliminated the DoD entirely (yay!), we'd still be screwed.

The only answer is to cut government back to at least Clinton-era levels - unfortunately for the socialist bureaucrat-worshippers, that means radical changes to medicare, medicaid, and social security. Unfortunately for chicken-hawk Republicans, that means radical cuts to the DoD.

It'd sure be nice if this country could get back to the principal of individual liberty and personal responsibility, but I guess that's long gone.

How Google Avoided Paying $60 Billion In Taxes

The AtomicPunk Re:Headline Is So Very Wrong (1193 comments)

Maybe you and others like you could get over your petty jealousies and we could drastically reduce all our tax rates so we could bring all the money than has flown out of the country over the past few decades back?

Unfortunately, we're all so distracted with class warfare we practically beg the government to take more and more of the money from the productive people and drive more and more wealth out of the country.

Are political posters allowed in your office?

The AtomicPunk The AtomicPunk writes  |  more than 6 years ago

Politically Oppressed (450829) writes "A few days ago, several people in our office put up some campaign posters supporting a particular candidate. Within an hour, several VPs got upset and demanded that they take the signs down. The excuse was given that at any other company in America, this would've been grounds for immediate dismissal — that they couldn't risk offending people who supported a different candidate. This is a fairly small web company in perpetual startup mode — long hours, dedicated employees. They are terrified of losing key employees to places like Google and want to develop a "cool culture" to help prevent this. On the other hand, they swiftly crushed a handful of people displaying campaign posters. I can only assume this means Halloween and Christmas decorations will be prevented going forward so as not to offend people who don't partake in those holidays.

My question is — what would happen at your company if people put up campaign posters? Is this really widely prevented? Has anyone heard of lawsuits ensuing from the presence of campaign posters in the workplace?"
