Google's Driverless Cars Capable of Exceeding Speed Limit

TheRealMindChild Re:A limit is a limit (475 comments)

In Pennsylvania, the vehicle code (Title 75, 3368), you can not be cited for speeding less that 6 miles per hour when the posted limit is less than 55 miles per hour, and over 55, you have to be going 10 miles an hour or over. I'm pretty sure this is what it is all about.

Are Altcoins Undermining Bitcoin's Credibility?

TheRealMindChild Re:Self Serving Story? (267 comments)

Well, you COULD create an altcoin where instead of 10 minutes to the new block, you have it down to 10 seconds. But then submitted stale shares are substantial, no one wants to mine, and the network doesn't have the computational support it needs. Every altcoin is based on bitcoin, with parameters/hash method just changed. All of it have advantages and drawbacks depending on how far from one side to the other you tweak those values. Overcoming these will need a totally new idea

New Watson-Style AI Called Viv Seeks To Be the First 'Global Brain'

TheRealMindChild Re:P vs. NP (161 comments)

This can't be a huge issue. I'm sure these folks aren't oblivious to its nature. The complexity of the query goes up to a known maximum. When parsing, have a limit for the most work that can be done/you are willing to compute and if the query will exceed that, you do the ol' DrSbaitso "Could you please be more specific?"

The Technologies Changing What It Means To Be a Programmer

TheRealMindChild Re: We only use JS now? (294 comments)

Pfff. Node.js is functionally:

MyString = MyObject.ToString;
eval("MyObject = " + MyString + ";");

and a few bits to deal with different date formats. Nothing about a runtime environment or browser. Simple class serialization

I had the same happen with Codewarrior for Sharp Zaurus. Metrowerks was sold and Freescale erased all traces of it. Can't be found anywhere, legit or warez. I even contacted Freescale and they said they looked everywhere they could, but they said it was nowhere. Gone forever

Investor Tim Draper Announces He Won Silk Road Bitcoin Auction

TheRealMindChild Re:No, I won the bitcoin auction! (115 comments)

There is zero evidence Tim Draper was the auction winner, except for is own statement, that's not backed up by absolutely anything.

Because if he was lying, the actual winner is extremely likely to issue a "nuh uh. *I* won the auction" statement

Supreme Court Rejects Appeal By Google Over Street View Data Collection

TheRealMindChild Re:Better analogy: (113 comments)

You can find out all you need by googling "wiretapping two party state". Most refer to recording phone calls, but it includes anything recording voice. Here is a map, with the red states indicating which you can be charged with wiretapping for recording a conversation without all parties consent:

http://www.vegress.com/index.p... Essentially, without consent in these states, recording audio is considered "Interception of communication", which is why it falls under wiretapping laws

TheRealMindChild TheRealMindChild writes  |  more than 7 years ago

TheRealMindChild (743925) writes "Recently, I obtained a contract who ran some system critical applications on Windows NT 4.0 Embedded machines. They have been having problems with the system crashing and the application failing. Inspecting the machine, core DLL files were corrupt enough that they weren't even recognized as executables by utilities like depends.exe. It was pretty obvious that the system image needed rebuilt (no backup... how lucky). The client INSISTS that we not upgrade the system to a more recent Windows Embedded product. The previous contractor who set up the systems took all of the software with him, and convieniently, he can't be located. So I start my search for a copy of Windows NT 4.0 Embedded, somewhere... anywhere. Simply put, it can not be found, legally or otherwise. Contract issues aside, it started really getting me down that software can actually be lost in time. It is a sad state of affairs, as such things can be learning tools for the future, if even only about the history of how things progressed. Is there some sane manner of which we can keep this from happening? What are some solutions?

On a similar note, Magnussoft Zeta 1.5, released this year, seems also as impossible to find anymore. Ignoring the legal implications, this bit of BeOS history is quite a milestone for so many reasons. I went through contacting everyone that has even reviewed this operating system, and they all either threw it away or gave it to a friend (who convieniently doesn't have it anymore either). Something needs to preserve our software history, but I am completely lost on what I/we can do."

TheRealMindChild TheRealMindChild writes  |  more than 8 years ago Ok, so I have my posting privledges back from the places I was restricted from. I have made 3 posts since I have discovered this... two are +3 Interesting/Insightful, and the third, which I only posted a couple of hours ago is at +2 Interesting (It has gone as high as +5).

Here is my prediction. The last post I made is now constantly getting modded up, then back down as "Overrated". If this moderation system is as broke as I think it is, those "Overrated" mods will count against me in some pool of "dirty points". When some magical number is exceeded, I will be banned. My feeling is that while negative mods add to dirty points, positive mods do not taketh away. Well see.

Stupidity runs amok!

TheRealMindChild TheRealMindChild writes  |  more than 8 years ago Yep. Banned again.

Due to excessive bad posting from this IP or Subnet, comment posting has temporarily been disabled. If it's you, consider this a chance to sit in the timeout corner . If it's someone else, this is a chance to hunt them down. If you think this is unfair, please email moderation@slashdot.org with your MD5'd IPID and SubnetID, which are "b8690e61585b156091065d4ba84649a9" and "c28a3baaf7d76466113b6358eb58324c" and (optionally, but preferably) your IP number "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" and your username "TheRealMindChild".

The only thing I can think that triggered this was the that my last two posts were modded to -1 and 0, respectively. It was friday and I was trying to be funny. Regardless, the banning filter is obviously the biggest piece of shit since Fred Durst. Either way, the error message is largely bogus (My subnet is NOT Banned. Coworkers can still use their accounts... it is just MY account on THIS subnet. I can still post from home. I can still use an anonymous proxy. QUALITY CODING FOR YOU!). So, piss on you, poor retarded slashdot coders. Ill just use an anonymous proxy by default.

TheRealMindChild TheRealMindChild writes  |  more than 8 years ago So, no more than an hour after I posted this:

I can no longer post anymore.

How appropriate. Funny how this happens EVERY SINGLE TIME I bitch at the elitests of slashdot. My karma hasn't MOVED from Excellent since I got it there days after I registered. I OWN my subnet. My modded down (below 2) posts consit of about 5% of all of my posting. The rest stay at 2 or get modded up. The bullshit reason doesn't fly. So much for free speech, eh?

So you know what CmdrTaco... you are a fat loser, and your self esteem problems obviously bleed into other places of your life... even your job. So thanks for nothing, your worthless mountain of rotting pig flesh.

Take your spelling and jam it up your rectum

TheRealMindChild TheRealMindChild writes  |  more than 9 years ago I am completely sick and tired of people pointing out spelling and grammar mistakes. Especially when it was due to a typo.

Look people... most of you cant use a comma. Most of you are confused by proper casing. ALL of you do NOT speak even close to perfect english. I notice this phenomenon get excruciatingly used when someone has no room to complain or few to no facts to back up an arguement.

Yes, I spell badly. I type even worse. I neglect all apostrophes, but use commas excessively. For you to correct me, you know exactally what I mean. 100% of people in the real world will hate you if the only reply to anything they said was comments on how they mispronounced a word, or even used "who" instead of "whom".

Let it go.

Slashdot Moderation Rediculousness Followp

TheRealMindChild TheRealMindChild writes  |  about 10 years ago I have since been allowed to post again. What is goofy about the whole situation is that I was able to post from home about a week before I could post here at work.

To those who have posted comments to the original journal entry, pointing out moderation had nothing to do with one of the two posts I implicated, that was my fault. I wrng used the word moderation... well, maybe. What I meant by that was simply those who fall in the category of "moderator", used their influence/power to squelch me... not that actual point had anything to do with it. I think we pretty much established that they dont. Im beginning to wonder if that is why we can only see pointers to what we posted back only up to 30 days.

Slashdot Moderation Rediculousness

TheRealMindChild TheRealMindChild writes  |  about 10 years ago I have long thought the people who bitched about unfair Karma ranking (Funny points not really points, but having them taken away actually takes real points away, or unseen pull that Low UID users have) to be silly. After all, if you arent a complete ass, you arent going to be posting at the bottom of the chain.

Then I posted this: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=117319&cid=9921696

Funny... I cant post anonymously only about an hour after this. Here is the message I got:

Due to excessive bad posting from this IP or Subnet, anonymous comment posting has temporarily been disabled. You can still login to post. However, if bad posting continues from your IP or Subnet that privilege could be revoked as well. If it's you, consider this a chance to sit in the timeout corner or login and improve your posting . If it's someone else, this is a chance to hunt them down. If you think this is unfair, please email moderation@slashdot.org with your MD5'd IPID and SubnetID, which are "3bcb4482c819e8d917ac28dc729c0e00" and "e307a2db72c91ac1e57334971cf6ad41" and (optionally, but preferably) your IP number "XX.XXX.XXX.XXXX" and your username "TheRealMindChild"

Bizaar coincidence, but maybe some schmuck down the street is being a cock. So I send an email to moderation explaining the bad use of false positives to restrict posting, and how I specifically have had "Excellent" Karma since about day 2 of me signing up for the account, and while I agree somewhat with the possible restiction of anonymous posting to curb trolling, the prospect of my specific account being suspended was not only rediculous, but horribly irresponsible.

About 42 hours after the "Restriction", I post this nugget (Mostly as humor, but more of an indicator that something is amiss): http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=117594&cid=9939887

Behold, I try to post something a couple of hours later...

Due to excessive bad posting from this IP or Subnet, comment posting has temporarily been disabled. If it's you, consider this a chance to sit in the timeout corner . If it's someone else, this is a chance to hunt them down. If you think this is unfair, please email moderation@slashdot.org with your MD5'd IPID and SubnetID, which are "b8690e61585b156091065d4ba84649a9" and "c28a3baaf7d76466113b6358eb58324c" and (optionally, but preferably) your IP number "XX.XXX.XXX.XXX" and your username "TheRealMindChild"

Now this was at work... on a totally different subnet completely. SOmeone is pissed at me. I try SEVERAL other attempts from completely seperate IP addresses across the globe, and I get the same message everytime. My account is restricted.

At this very moment I have Excellent Karma. At best, I have maybe 3 posts moderated Troll out of the HUNDEREDS of posts I made. It is pretty clear to me that the paranoia around here is justified.
