Toyota Experimenting With Joystick Control For Cars

TheRealPacmanJones Publicity Stunt (609 comments)

Sounds more likely to be something that Toyota is going to try becuase they can do it, not to sell it or even really bring it to market. They put this out and people talk about Toyota for a while and then like alot of stuff that comes out at car shows, never sees the inside of a showroom. Just my two cents though.

Texas Teen Arrested Under New Online Harassment Law

TheRealPacmanJones Is the internet different from being in person? (494 comments)

If they did these same things in person I imagine the worst penalty would be some detention or a being grounded. Should it be different? I suppose you have a much larger audience(potentially) on the internet but should it be a felony. I think its overkill.

Do You Provide Tech Support To Friends and Family?

TheRealPacmanJones Re:feign ignorance... (606 comments)

Reminds me of the (very) small office I used to work in. As I knew a little about computers I became the unofficial IT guy. That stopped after the second 'What did you do to my computer? It's not working!'

I had the same thing happen to me. I once had an intern berate me about not being able to fix his problem. The intern was kind of crazy and prone to such outbursts anyway but still I dreaded being the person who new about computersn there. As anyone who has ever troubleshooted anything knows the most common problem is user error. My co-workers didnt like it when I started telling them this.....

In 100 Years, Health Care Won't Be An Issue Because ...

TheRealPacmanJones Re:Mission Option: It already isn't.... (804 comments)

All the people NOT from the US wanted to tick the "It already isn't an issue" box. Since we've had Health Care solved for some time now.

Odd that the US doesn't charge for education but yet when you want to give out free health care somehow it is wrong. Makes no sense to me.

To me Health Care is more of a "human right" than free public eduction. Although both are.

Health care as a human right? Cmon seriously. Quite frankly I dont care if other people get health care. If you want health care get a real job. This is America. Whatever happened to pulling yourself up by your bootstraps? Everything wants everything given to them these days.

New Unmanned Japanese Re-supply Vessel For the ISS

TheRealPacmanJones Re:Spacecraft visiting the ISS (93 comments)

We should also have Dragon flying by the end of 2010 if things go as planned, which will amount to another supply ship on par with the ATV, but with payload return capability.

In Soviet Russia dragons fly on you!

Geeks Prefer Competence To Niceness

TheRealPacmanJones Just IT people? (300 comments)

I am an accountant and I know I have always preferred people who did their job well but I may not have liked that much. You can work around personality differences but you cant work around someone being stupid.

Dad Builds 700 Pound Cannon for Son's Birthday

TheRealPacmanJones Re:Safety first? (410 comments)

Cannons don't kill people. (Unless they run them over). Gunpowder and cannonballs kill people. Just don't let the son get ahold of the gunpowder and he'll be safe. The article doesn't say that he built any cannonballs at all, and you can't just buy them at your local Walmart.

Just because you dont have cannonball doesnt mean you wont put anything vaguely round into the cannon to see if it will shoot. I know I would have done that if I had a cannon growing up.

Dad Builds 700 Pound Cannon for Son's Birthday

TheRealPacmanJones Safety first? (410 comments)

First? Is it really a good idea to give an 11 year old a cannon. Even though you will tell him not to use it unsupervised eventually theres going to come a time where his friends say something like "cmon we will just shoot it once"...... and then before you know it they are invading a nearby neighborhood...

Minority Report Style Iris Scanners in Mexico

TheRealPacmanJones TheRealPacmanJones writes  |  about 4 years ago

TheRealPacmanJones (1600187) writes "Biometrics R&D firm Global Rainmakers Inc. (GRI) announced today that it is rolling out its iris scanning technology to create what it calls "the most secure city in the world." In a partnership with Leon — one of the largest cities in Mexico, with a population of more than a million — GRI will fill the city with eye-scanners. That will help law enforcement revolutionize the way we live — not to mention marketers."
