IeSF Wants International Game Tournaments Segregated By Sex [Updated]

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:simple fix (221 comments)

Life involves physical activity. Where do you draw the line? What's enough "physical activity" to qualify? Is Jeopardy a sport? There's physical activity involved in pressing that motherfucking button, right?

What about charades? Obviously no one plays charades in real life but they do it in movies so let's analyze it like it's a real thing. There can be quite a bit of physical activity there and there is scoring with an objective winner. Is that a sport? If so, why is that a sport but Monopoly isn't?

The physical activity bit just feels like a terrible line to draw because it is so arbitrary and hard to judge.

How about this: people can call whatever the fuck they want a sport and then we just go with it.

Orson Scott Card Pleads 'Tolerance' For Ender's Game Movie

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:Freedom of expression? On Slashdot? (1448 comments)

What is so horrible about letting people believe what they want, and feeling free to speak one's mind either in agreement or disagreement?

Who is stopping him davide? If someone says something I find offensive, are you saying that I have no right to want to avoid lining their pockets? What exactly is the point you're getting at?

Why Your Users Hate Agile

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:Developers hate Agile too (597 comments)

I figure that this sort of interruption doesn't matter to the undisciplined ADHD crowd, but ... well, there you go.

There I go, off to ride my bicycle! What were we talking about again? Hey - you want to go out for burgers later? I need to wash my car.

Microsoft Creative Director 'Doesn't Get' Always-On DRM Concerns

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:Really? (572 comments)

I've walked through camps in the 3rd world, where people live in shanty towns and their homes are much more in-line with the definition of camp than people hosting LAN parties.

What does the Cold War have to do with any of this?

It doesn't sound like a simple shelter when you have a TV, playstation/xbox/computer, and a LAN set up to play games with friends. That sounds like a LAN party or a hotel room. Maybe to you, a simple shelter includes these things, but to me, it does not.

What you put inside of this "simple shelter" doesn't dictate the simplicity of it. If I come across a lean-to on the AT and put a computer in it that runs on a diesel powered battery, have I suddenly made that shelter to be something other than "simple"? If so - are the hikers on the AT who stay there not camping suddenly? You're funny...

Ask Slashdot: Enterprise Bitcoin Mining For Go-Green Initiatives?

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:Wouldn't that waste more energy? (312 comments)

Sure, it will consume more electricity, but say the extra electricity is $0.10 per PC times 18K PC's is an electrical bill increase of $1800. So we would need to generate 24 bitcoins in that 8-12 hours to break even and more to make money.

Using more electricity to generate money is not a "go green"-initiative, as others have pointed out. This proposal should be rejected as it is going to use more electricity.

Ask Slashdot: What Is a Reasonable Way To Deter Piracy?

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:life-long updates (687 comments)

I have had my CC stolen out of my mail and charged $3000 forcing me to be late on my fucking house payment, my car payment, my insurance payment, and my cable bill. The fraud was reported the day after and STILL it took over TWO MONTHS to give my money back during which time I had 30 day lates on some of my payments because even though I called the organizations I was late on payments for, two of them "forgot" to process my fraud report. I then had to go through 3 months of back and forth with the companies, police, my bank, and Experian/Transunion just to repair my credit.

Did you mean to say that you had a debit card stolen from your mail? Because your story doesn't make any sense if a credit card was stolen. I'd also suggest that you should position yourself financially to better absorb a 3k hit. Living hand to mouth like this is just asking for trouble.

Seattle Bar Owner Bans Google Glass, In Advance

You cannot be stalked by a toddler.

This is the most insensitive thing I have ever read! I am currently peering out my window through the blinds and can see a toddler sitting on his Big Wheel, holding a pair of binoculars, and smiling at me. HE JUST MADE THE THROAT SLASH GESTURE AT ME!

Orson Scott Card's Superman Story Shelved After Homophobia Controversy

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:A stupid issue (1174 comments)

That would be a great argument if people actually married before they had children. Or if they stayed married for at least 18 years after having children.

But that only happens in a small minority of cases.

A small minority, huh? What's the percentage we're talking here? Also - what study did you find this interesting statistic in?

Orson Scott Card's Superman Story Shelved After Homophobia Controversy

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:I'm not even a fan, but (1174 comments)

Allowing the Federal government to get its hands into who can and cannot marry is bound to eventually cause a huge mess. And that is an understatement. It will eventually have a detrimental effect not just on LGBT couples, but everybody else as well.

The federal government is already involved in who can and cannot marry (see DOMA) so your thesis begins from an incorrect assumption.

Orson Scott Card's Superman Story Shelved After Homophobia Controversy

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:I'm not even a fan, but (1174 comments)

I don't see the difference between your allowance for complaining and your ban of pressuring the company. Isn't "pressuring the company" the same as "complaining to the company"?

Flu Shot Doing Poor Job of Protecting Older People This Year

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:Quit promoting it when it doesn't work (205 comments)

Millions of years of evolution are more effective than a buch of vaccines made from questionable materials, under questionable manufacturing circumstances, and being monitored by a government agency that was probably bought and sold to the pharmaceutical industry decades ago.

Our, you know, continue to throw money at big pharma and have another double cheeseburger and a Coke. I'm sure they and their lobbyists have your best interest in mind.

Is that how you avoided polio? Better living through exercise and eating broccoli?

Flu Shot Doing Poor Job of Protecting Older People This Year

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:The fallacy of "Any is better" (205 comments)

There are many other factors and with that protection number being so low, to me it makes little sense to go somewhere and risk greater exposure to other people from which you would get the flu to begin with.

You mean like Walmart? Where people are going anyway?

The two options are not (1) get a flu shot in a den of other filthy humans with disease or (2) don't get the flu shot and avoid all human contact.

The places people get the flu shot are the same places that people are going.

3-D Printing Pen Can Draw In the Air

The_PS4_Will_Fail Re:Really? (85 comments)

But it's not a "printer". If this is a 3-d printer then my pencil is a printer. 3-d printers are useful because you can mass produce objects. Freehand doodling isn't that.
