Biometric IDs For Every Indian Citizen

ThoreauHD Indians are Hindu and new to self-government (166 comments)

They don't give a shit about Christ or the Anti-Christ or the mark of the beast. All they care about are cows and rubbing burnt cow shit on their foreheads every so often at Temple.

All other interests are either in IT gadget's or what's the best weapon to kill a muslim.

This is a non-issue for them. I'm sure they'll think it's fun, until they realize their new leader is muslim and surprisingly has every tool necessary to exterminate them. But let's let them figure that out on their own. I'm sure they'll be fine.

Game Developers On Gold Selling

ThoreauHD Re:Gold selling is a good idea (424 comments)

If they charge you to buy the game, and charge you to play the game(monthly), them balking at gold farmers doesn't hold water. It doesn't disturb an economy to acquire wealth. Somebody earned it doing something.

The only reason why these companies should be pissed is because it saves the users time, thereby possibly shorting their monthly subscription. Some people's time is worth more to them than dicking around grinding for gold. In fact, if you are charging a monthly fee, that would mean that the majority of your users would save money buying rather than grinding.

It smells alot like sudden "morality" of gambling, sex, and drugs. Governments don't want you to buy it unless you're buying it from them. Then it's A-Okay.

If your online game creates an actual economy, you don't get to pick and choose what that market will become. It's supply and demand. If you make users spend days grinding to buy a mount or weapon, then you can damn skippy figure out that spending 20 bucks will save them 16 hours of wasting their lives.

Columnist Fired For Reviewing Pirated Movie

ThoreauHD This is pretty amusing (466 comments)

If a technology can easily be used by someone as dim-witted as a reporter, it's too late. The pee isn't coming out of the pool. You cannot undo the damage, assuming that there is any in the first place.

I don't believe in intellectual property for infinite resources. These copyrights, patents, trade secrets, and trademarks were created to protect finite resources so humans would not have conflict over who owns what and kill each other.

There is nothing lost here. The movie will still be released. People will still see it. The data he watched in no way affects their resource.

Because I know how to make a cup of coffee doesn't mean that others can't know how to make a cup of coffee. There is no legal good maintained by this.

The question of ownership of an intangible infinite resource such as knowledge isn't even a question. It's insane and beyond a slippery slope.

The fact is that when it comes to property, it is either a finite contentious resource or it isn't property.

The fact is that when it comes to controlling information, it is either secret or it isn't.

And dat is it. Natural law is my witness.

Best Solution For HA and Network Load Balancing?

ThoreauHD Simple (298 comments)

Citrix Netscaler. All high end web hosting companies use it. If you are thinking about Foundry or a custom linux box, don't. You'll see the limitations after it's implemented- and by then you'll be screwed.

Linked In Or Out?

ThoreauHD Only one site gets you jobs (474 comments)

Linked In is mined by Headhunters for positions. I get an unsolicited offer every week from there. They are good jobs too, I'm just not in the market atm. The rest are for vanity. I have no use for them.

I also prefer to be under the radar. But it's useful for posting my resume(of sorts) and remembering all the people I meet in IT. It's a small world in IT, and the people at the top will eventually meet or work with each other again. It's not a maybe, but a certainty. So I find it useful.

How Do I Start a University Transition To Open Source?

ThoreauHD Re:From a faculty member... (497 comments)

Wow, first post I've read and I want to set this fruitcake on fire. So, you think that the people that run the infrastructure of the entire school should do what a professor or associate professor says because.. they work for you? No dorkass. You and the IT department work for the University, which means that you work for the students. You know- the people with money aka Not you.

I've worked at a place that was exactly as you had described and wished. It's at a school in a founding father's home town. The IT department there would also suck any dick from a professor, thereby crashing the entire system weekly. I learned alot from that experience. First- professors profess. Second- Engineer's engineer. And third- my doctor knows and is responsible for about as my IT as you are.

In short, when you go to McDonald's and order a Whopper with Cheese- do they tell you to go fuck yourself too? Cause that's how real businesses are run douchebag. Wake up. You aren't and never have been in control. The only people with more power AND RESPONSIBILITY than IT is the electric company.

Got damn I hate some professors. It's like trying to teach a Mac user how to repair a computer.

Obama's Proposed Space Weapon Ban

ThoreauHD Re:Childish (550 comments)

And since we'll be launching nuclear weapons from space and not bullets, I'd say that Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the proper analogies. And yes, those weapons did end the war.

If Windows 7 Fails, Citrix (Not Linux) Wins

ThoreauHD They wish (638 comments)

Citrix licenses are $12,000 for 20 concurrent connections. If Windows 7 is a tosser as well, then the only thing Citrix gets is an education on freenx and Linux. It's a pleasant fiction though.

Linus Switches From KDE To Gnome

ThoreauHD I agree with everyone else that's agreeing (869 comments)

KDE 4 is not done, yet it's defaulted on every distro. I still use KDE3 because of this. I'm not desperate enough to use gnome, but I'd pick gnome over KDE4's eye candy and zero usefulness.

What will Obama change most in the first 100 days?

ThoreauHD Re:How about... (1026 comments)

I second that. He already controls the media. Next is money. And then when that runs it's course, it'll be your guns. But not before he ignores the Supreme Court request for his Birth Certificate. He's not even eligible to be President, so how's that for change and hopedy hope.

Do Nice Engineers Finish Last In Tough Times?

ThoreauHD Doesn't matter (613 comments)

Skill is gold. He should started looking for a new job as soon as he realized he worked for asshats. If you have the skills, you will get a better job. And as far as jobs go in general, we'll all be working for the government in one way or another in the next 4 years anyway.

How Will Recent Financial Downturns Affect IT Jobs?

ThoreauHD No affect. But for you- total pain. (372 comments)

When economies are in a recession, IT is the most efficient means of doing business. It takes the least amount of money to create the greatest amount of wealth. It may initially take a hit, like everything else- but it will not be trimmed down. If a company trims down IT, it means they are no longer a company. They are in a death spiral. See AOL for an example of this.

As far as you getting out of college with no experience. I'll tell you what use your college degree has in IT. That little check mark at the bottom of the page asking where you went to school. That's the one. And only low level virgin jobs ask for that. If you have 15 years of experience, nobody gives a flying crap if you went to college. And they ask for your CV, which is not the fill in the blanks kind of resume.

At the place where I work, we cannot hire people like you. Our systems are too important to the planet. But, have hope. The FBI/CIA has just opened up 3000 jobs, and they may have an entry level opening. I know they like to have people with college degrees there, and little else. So I would honestly give that a shot at this time. You will have to move to find a job. Just make that a given for the next 10 years. You will be moving.

I wish you the best of luck. Please don't think a degree means anything. It has no bearing on anyone I have ever hired for the last 10 years. It's just a road block if you don't have it AND have no experience.

LittleBigPlanet Delayed Due To Qur'an-Sampling Audio

ThoreauHD Well.. (995 comments)

The epiphany that muslims are violent scum isn't really new to any life form on this planet. I don't know why they bothered recalling their dogshit Mohammed quotes. Maybe they are scared they would get their head cut off too. Oh well, Sony's never been any use to me. A .50 cal though... that's been useful.
