Science Reveals Why Airplane Food Tastes So Bad

Tree131 Only US Airline food tastes like crap (388 comments)

I flew Swiss Air and Scandinavian Air. The food tasted just fine, in fact it tasted really good.

The author should try flying a non-US airline.

Ask Slashdot: To Hack Or Not To Hack?

Tree131 Re:PCI (517 comments)

If the company is in the business of processing or clearing credit card transactions, then Visa and MC would be very much involved if there were any security breaches. Then again, there aren't much details about what the company actually does. :/

Boat Moves Without an Engine Or Sails

Tree131 little slow? (234 comments)

So, at 14.4 meters/h, this is only useful for bodies of still water.
Looking forward to improvements in speed, 'cause I think ocean currents move faster than that.

Researchers Play Tune Recorded Before Edison

Tree131 Tree131 writes  |  more than 6 years ago

Tree131 (643930) writes "NY Times is reporting that sound recordings pre-dating Edison's made by Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville, a Parisian typesetter and tinkerer, were discovered by American audio historians at the French Academy of Sciences in Paris. The recordings are on paper and were meant for recording but not playback. Researchers used a high quality scan of the recording and an electronic needle to play back the sounds recorded 150 years ago.

For more than a century, since he captured the spoken words "Mary had a little lamb" on a sheet of tinfoil, Thomas Edison has been considered the father of recorded sound. But researchers say they have unearthed a recording of the human voice, made by a little-known Frenchman, that predates Edison's invention of the phonograph by nearly two decades."
