Google+ Loses 60% of Active Users

TriZz Re:We want something new but the same. (519 comments)

This. If you need any indication of how much people hate change...just check the statuses after FB makes a change. People go nuts! People want what they're used to. The way FB made it simple was looping them in young and bright (college students). They became the evangelists of FB then spreading to the mainstream. Until everyone is on Google, nobody's going to Google - Even though I find it to be a superior product...I find myself using FB because that's where the people I care about are.

PSN Up, And Then Down Again

TriZz Re:Its just sony (282 comments)

The point is, they do good and they do bad. If you sum up any person, corporation, group, ect. by just their failures/screw-up then nobody is worth a damn. If that site gets made, or exists, then add the good. Like you said, the MD player had it's good and it had it's bad. Same with me. Same with the parent. Same with Sony.

PSN Up, And Then Down Again

TriZz Re:Its just sony (282 comments)

That's true...didn't think of it that way. I suppose if a person had a website with their screw-ups, that person could take it as a personal attack or look at it objectively and say "there's a pattern to my screw-ups, perhaps when I'm faced with X situation, my response shouldn't be Y because it never works out for me". Same with Sony.

The Betamax and Mini-disc, I wouldn't necessarily call screw-ups. In fact, I'd say those were good things...they innovated and it never stuck (of course, it could be a screw-up if you consider lack of proper marketing as such) but they took a risk for the better and it never panned out. Root-kits, removing the other OS feature, suing GeoHot...those are in a different realm. It's like they went from no follow-through, to too much follow-though.

This has been an interesting exercise. Thanks for not taking my post the wrong way, I was worried that others would think I was just trying to be an ass.

A corporation's screw-ups are just a collection of personal screw-ups.

PSN Up, And Then Down Again

TriZz Re:Its just sony (282 comments)

Someone really needs to consolidate all the bad stuff YOU have done onto one web page. That way next time someone questions my adversity to all things you, I can just point at it.

I'm not trying to troll or whatever...this is a thinking exercise. Think about how much bad that you've done in your life where forgiveness was given. Sure, the scale my be smaller...but the badness is there. I'm not a Sony fan by any means...and I'm very upset about this, but think for a moment of how much bad you've done in your life and how people still give you a chance. In reality...none of us are really worth a damn.

Who Wants To Be a Billionaire Coder?

TriZz Re:Work on! (318 comments)

I don't code for a living (with the exception of the occasional batch script to automate certain tasks) -- but I maintain that if I didn't need the money, I'd do my job for free. I love it.

...and THAT is why I can relate to your post. I've taken staycations and after a few days of doing hobbyist things that I'd been neglecting, found that I get bored REALLY easily.

Maybe once I reach the golden years (currently 29) -- I'll have found more things that I find as interesting hobbys, but until then...I'll just keep making my office a better place, one server/computer at a time.

Network Neutrality Back In Congress For 3rd Time

TriZz Couldn't this technically be used.... (248 comments)

I didn't RTFA, but the summary sounds like it could end Apple's App store. At which point do you draw the line between cell phone and computer? Internet service and phone service? I mean, they're not REALLY all that different anymore.

Palm Pre "iTunes Hack" Detailed By DVD Jon

TriZz Re:Why would Apple care? (338 comments)

Apple will care because it's one more feature that helps sells a competitors product/hardware. If I was in the market for new phone/carrier, Apple would want me to buy the iPhone AND use iTunes for music...not just using iTunes for music. If easy music management is something that I would like on my phone, then the iPhone would be the only choice (other music phones aren't nearly as intuitive about putting music on the phone).

Hospital Turns Away Ambulances When Computers Go Down

TriZz Re:Nurse != Secretary (406 comments)

I disagree. The staff of the hospital should be trained to be able to treat patients WITHOUT computers. Just like accountants, they need to be able to balance the books without the use of software if something happens. The only reason a hospital shouldn't be treating patients is if something happens at the hospital (disease outbreak/quarantine, hospital is out of order due to explosion/terrorism/etc.) "Computers are down" SHOULD never be an acceptable excuse to NOT treat patients.

Volvo Introduces a Collision-Proof Car

TriZz Liability (743 comments)

I think this car is neat-o burrito in concept, but in reality...all that's going to happen is that Volvo is going to get sued all to hell when the system fails and a collision occurs. Calling the car "collision proof" is just a bad idea since we live in a society that tries to avoid accountability at all costs (excluding lawyer fees).

Comcast Appeals FCC's Net Neutrality Ruling

TriZz Re:Sounds like Comcast's death-knell... (242 comments)

I don't think there is a slashdot reader who would willingly choose Comcast over anything other than dial-up or abstinence. Most Comcast users just don't have any other choice. THAT is the problem...
