Google Unveils goo.gl URL Shortening Service

Tringard Re:Why? (242 comments)

When Tinyurl was popular there was at least the option to enable a cookie to be sent to tinyurl to get a preview of the link before going on to the real link. These days I just avoid all of these links.

Google Challenging Proposition 8

Tringard Re:WTF? (1475 comments)

I don't think that is true, the vast majority of the benefits that come with marriage (including those you listed) can be found by pursuing a Civil Union in California. There is really only the concern that the lack of the title "marriage" is socially demeaning which, as I understand it, was the main argument by the courts in their majority ruling that led to the creation of Prop 8.

Ben Stein's 'Expelled' - Evolution, Academia and Conformity

Tringard Re:It isn't science. (1766 comments)

Remember if intelligent design is correct then it can be explained, demonstrated and then analysed further.

Actually I don't think this is the case. We don't want ID taught in the classroom because it is not science, it can not be. As far as I can imagine, God is not testable by science, so no hypothesis will ever be added to science which supports God's existence. Thus science will not lead us to support the existence of God, even if He does exist.

This is why the ID-proponent spends so much time poking at those areas where weakness is seen in evolution. If a scientific hypothesis can not be submitted supporting his belief, then the next best thing is to attack that which threatens the belief. Ironically these attacks only strengthen evolution as answers are sought out to explain those weaknesses.

(Disclaimer: I do believe in God and that He is our creator. I leave a place for evolution, but am not overly concerned by it.)

Tringard Tringard writes  |  about 8 years ago

Tringard (595737) writes "The BBC is reporting on plans to create hybrid human-bovine embryos as a possible solution to the lack of stem cells for research. From the article, "They would insert human DNA into a cow's egg which has had its genetic material removed and then create an embryo by the same technique that produced Dolly the Sheep. The resulting embryo would be 99.9% human ... The aim would be to extract stem cells from the embryo when it is six days old, before destroying it.""

Today's Prayer

Let not distractions pull me,
But seek to know You

Praise, glory to You
Let my life be Your pleasure
Your will, not mine, done.

Memes

Tringard Tringard writes  |  more than 9 years ago Well the joy of the haiku has sorta died down. But Galant, the friend that sort of started the posting of haikus, put up an interesting set of questions today. As requested (ish), posting answers there and here.

1) Meaning(less?)
If you had to devote your life to one quirky and pointless goal, what would it be?

Having some trouble coming up with a truly pointless goal that I would be willing to devote significant time to. But one goal I'd be willing to commit to if I had the time, would be to learn a wide range of languages. While many would find that anything but pointless, I have little to no interest in travelling and seeing the world. So such language skills would see rare if any use in my life.

2) Of Barbies, He-Man and Mr. Meccano
What is/was your favourite toy?

Does a toyset count? I'd probably pick Legos. Of all the toys high- and low-tech, these probably occupied and entertained more of my time whether I was alone or with friends. Even provided some distraction when I was (supposed) to be packing to move, unfortunately much has been lost over the years.

3) The Sweet Smell of...?
Imagine the technology existed which allowed you to not only receive sight and sound via your computer but also smell. What would be the scent of your website - transmitted to all who would visit?

The smell of a forest. The light smell of pine, earth, and fresh (clean), but thinner air. Basically: the pleasant smells you encounter as you hike through a (primarily pine) forest.

Tringard Tringard writes  |  more than 9 years ago Psalm 5

Hear my voice oh Lord,

5. Daily Study - Psalm 3

Tringard Tringard writes  |  more than 8 years ago Psalm 3

Against God's trustees,
They claim, "no help found in God."
Many trouble me

Know no fear of them
For You are a shield for me
I can sleep soundly

Lord strikes ungodly
Protection for all His own
Salvation in Lord!

4. Daily Study - Psalm 2

Tringard Tringard writes  |  more than 8 years ago Psalms 2

Beware the Wicked:
Rulers set up against God,
God's Son rules in end

Earth: inheritance,
Will destroy your rebellion
For all comes from God

Therfore, Love the Son,
Serve the Lord with true respect
Put all trust in Him

To follow the ungodly
Go where the wind blows

Meditate on Word daily

Secure in knowledge of Him
Bear 'fruit' in His time

1. Galant's Musings - Walking in Open Fields and Flowers

Tringard Tringard writes  |  more than 9 years ago Leave the beaten path
Let my feet guide at their will
Perfect summer stroll

Enjoying nature
A hidden lesson is sought:
True lasting beauty

Spied across the field
Beauty dancing in the wind
What is its secret?

A simple flower
Smiles with flowers, wind, and sun
Like others I've seen...

Insight dawns clearly:
It sees not nature about,
Dances all for HIM
