DOJ Hasn't Actually Found Silk Road Founder's Bitcoin Yet

True Vox Re:Disappearing Bitcoins (294 comments)

Well, the coins they already have will increase in value, and they'll continue to use smaller & smaller decimals of BTC. It's currently divisible out to 8(?) places, AFAIK, but I believe that fact doesn't prevent it from going even smaller as long as it's coded in.

Minecraft 1.5 "Redstone" Released

True Vox Re:Is Redstone Fun (95 comments)

I'm not familiar with the Little Big Planet series, but if you don't care for the complexities of Redstone circuits, might I suggest trying RedPower? It's a great little mod that I use for my item sortation, but they also have much simpler to use variants of the base Redstone circuits.

Don't wanna fool around installing mods by hand? Try Feed The Beast (most options in their launcher have RedPower IIRC) or Technic/Tekkit (ditto).

And remember - One More Block! ;D

Google Announces New Nexus Smartphone and Tablets

True Vox Re:Are there any decent GSM providers in the state (297 comments)

Well, I'm HOPING to get this phone, but not until it's available on Ting. Don't know when (or if) that will be, but that's what I'm waiting for. I prefer them to Virgin as they roam voice & text to Verizon (not data sadly). Virgin (another Sprint MVNO like Ting) doesn't roam.

The fact that their customer support is also WAY better doesn't hurt either. :)

If you wanna try Ting, feel free to use either twig.ting.com to get $50 off your first order, or, if you're feeling altruistic, my referal to get $25 off your order and me $25 off my bill. As someone who came from Virgin, I'm quite pleased with them. Depending on usage & service, though, YMMV (that is, if you're a HEAVY data user and Sprint gets great service in your area, you might be better off with Virgin).

Japan's Softbank Buying Sprint, Creating Third-Largest Global Carrier

True Vox Re:Will this somehow cause Sprint to stop sucking? (59 comments)

I too am a Ting customer, and I will second your statement pretty much in its entirety (Esp WRT the buckets gripe - it really is the worst thing I can say about Ting though, and that's good :D). I finally went in for the Airave, and am just waiting for it to get here. I'm pretty excited.

The Coming Internet Video Crash

True Vox Re:What's less wasteful? (419 comments)

Well, yeah, I guess, if you're streaming from Pandora. Personally, I just use Spotify. Yes, I realize I don't "own the music", but considering the amount of "new" (that is, music that I was unfamiliar with previously, not necessarily newly released). The $10 a month seems fair to me, considering that I have a big appetite, and often grow bored of something I've heard 100 times.

Anyway, with Spotify (and I assume others like Rdio and Mog or what ever their called), you can choose to stream, or choose to download to the device, as the situation warrants. If you have the songs downloaded, you don't need ANY connection to play them (though you do have to call home even so once every 30 days).

The Coming Internet Video Crash

True Vox Re:This has been brewing for years. (419 comments)

Mmhm... I remember when having the AOL keyword for something was a Big Deal. Never actually used it, thankfully (AOL wasn't in my school, thankfully, and we didn't have a computer at home for a couple more years).

The Coming Internet Video Crash

True Vox Re:Utility (419 comments)

There'd be riots in the fucking streets if your electric company tried to pull that shit. But for telecom, it's the only way it's done. You're fucked if you use too much and you're fucked if you use too little, and if you want to switch to a different provider, well, there's less than five of them, and they all have the same plans, but we assure you that there's no collusion in this free market, no sir!

Well, not the ONLY way...

Not related to the company at all, just a very happy subscriber. I'd give you my referral code, but I don't want to give the impression that I'm only pumping them for discounts.

Social Robots May Gain Legal Rights, Says MIT Researcher

True Vox Re:Do beef cows have rights? (288 comments)

Um, I've known MANY Person A's who have killed a dog (or cat) that belonged to Person A. There's even places you can take 'em for the faint of heart where they'll do it for a fee. All above board & legal.

Ask Slashdot: Holding ISPs Accountable For Contracted DSL Bandwidth

True Vox Re:The answer was the same 6 years ago: (345 comments)

Less money going to all the lawyers, and more money to the guy who sells the billy clubs and socks-full-of-batteries.

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

What Is Your Beverage of Choice In the Morning?

Ever consider a caffeine pill? That's what I take. I'm sad it's not up there, but I suppose it's not a beverage.

Game Developers Eyeballing Kindle Fire

True Vox Re:Fired up? (48 comments)

Just to add another data point, every book I've read for the last two years has been on my Android Optimus V (which is only used as a PDA as the Sprint network (which I guess is what Virgin runs on) is trash around here). I read maybe 2 books a month, and I've never had an issue with it. I'll happily submit that e-ink is better, but for me, not a lot better.

Bethesda's 'Scrolls' Lawsuit Going Ahead

True Vox Re:Copyright infringement (332 comments)

Um... I don't recall that. MINECRAFT was supposed to be released on 11/11/11, but I don't think Scrolls is even in alpha stages yet. Minecraft has been in development for quite a bit more time then Scrolls to boot.

The Minecraft release date has been moved back, but not too far if I recall correctly. The ALPHA release of Scrolls was rumored to have happened in June, but I can't even find confirmation that it did.

Using 1 computer for 2 people?

True Vox True Vox writes  |  more than 5 years ago

True Vox writes "My fiance and I have recently taken interest in City of Heroes (she's currently got a character on my account). She's got a cute little net book, but nothing nearly powerful enough for a 5 year old MMORPG (let alone if we take interest in Champions Online! I am reticent to buy a new gaming computer simply for what amounts for a passing phase. Has anyone had any experience using one computer to to control two monitors (along with two keyboards, and two mice, or some other suitable control setup (one keyboard, mouse, and a 360 gamepad, perhaps?)). I have seen but one solution that MIGHT work, but not much information from users that I can find.

In short, does anyone have any experience with setups like this?"
