Umbrel (1040414) writes "Past December Dell run comparison of its own servers (Intel based) vs HP servers (AMD based) for virtualization: cket_vs_hp4socket_vmware.pdf
In brute performance, each HP Proliant (4 sockets, 8 cores) do better than each Dell PowerEdge (2 sockets, 8 cores), but losses in power (higher power consume), so much that the PowerEdge has better performance per watt (well known now).
However, bringing the cost into the equation, the Intel based system wins in brute performance since for the cost of 2 Proliant servers you can buy 3 PowerEdge with an (obvius) superior total performance and a similar power requeriments."
