What's your favorite medium for Sci-Fi?

Uniquitous Re:I predict... (322 comments)

I think that to do so would be to miss the point of books. They exercise your imagination, whereas movies just show you the product of someone else's.

What's your favorite medium for Sci-Fi?

Uniquitous Re:What's your favourite book? (322 comments)

I'm making my way through Iain M. Banks' Culture series. So far, it's a toss-up between Use of Weapons and Excession for the title of favorite.

What's your favorite medium for Sci-Fi?

Uniquitous Re:Movies (322 comments)

Control in games is often illusory. Sure, you can control some things, but often the choice comes down to "advance the plot" or "dick around some more." Probably the closest you could come to true control would be a tabletop RPG / collaborative storytelling thing.

Edward Snowden Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize

Uniquitous Re:Nice (719 comments)

Giving it to Obama was nuts, and it's now not clear if this prize has any point any more.

That ship sailed when they gave it to Arafat.

BBC Gives Up On 3-D Television Programming

Uniquitous Re:Buddha says... (120 comments)

Technically I think he said to stop wanting shit, stupid or not, because freedom from desire was the path to fulfillment. Or something along those lines, anyway.

Nintendo's Wii U Will Be Sold At a Loss

Uniquitous They need to just get out of the hardware biz. (188 comments)

I'd love to play their franchises again, but not enough to shell out for one of their consoles with yet another nonsensical controller scheme. Just go entirely 3rd party and put those games on Steam. I'll buy 'em.

Uniquitous Re:Experimental Data? (405 comments)

We'd need to sentence a lot of people to death in order to get trustworthy data. Hmm... now what does this remind me of? Didn't somebody do this already?

Are you better off than you were four years ago?

Uniquitous Incredibly so. (524 comments)

I switched companies and rectified being grossly underpaid, and I got gastric sleeve surgery and dropped over two hundred pounds. Now I have a new car and a healthy, active lifestyle. My life rules!

I only ever went there to read the "Best Of" section anyway, and not even that in recent years. No great loss.

Obama Order Sped Up Wave of Cyberattacks Against Iran

Uniquitous Depends on what you mean by war (415 comments)

If by war you mean "destruction of property" then yes, I suppose you could say we're at war. But then you'd be using such an overly broad definition of "war" as to make the term useless.

Oh yeah, we get plenty of criticism, but it's very rare that we don't end up getting our way. That's my point.

Uniquitous Re:Walls Rise And Fall (386 comments)

That's a fair-minded view. Still, it wouldn't hurt one bit if the rest of the world told us to fuck off every now and then.
