Flexible Phones 'Out By 2013'

UnresolvedExternal My prediction (152 comments)

My prediction is:
- lots of strange wobbly phone designs
- that will be a pain to hold and text on
- whose main function is to go OOOO look how bendy I am!

NASA To Encrypt All of Its Laptops

UnresolvedExternal Re:i don't understand... (226 comments)

I think you are missing the ACs point - the important data on the laptop should be in sync with the servers. All of the other stuff is probably crud anyway.

Or at least it should be....

Climbing 103 Floors On a 'Bionic' Leg

UnresolvedExternal Re:Cyborgs are Cool. (117 comments)

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Ask Slashdot: Open Communications Set-Up For Small Office?

UnresolvedExternal Rational drunk (maybe) (224 comments)

I am guilty of posting after a few beers so mod me down as I deserve ...

Slashdot is definitely the wrong place to pose this question as you may have already realised - if an open source god didn't exist then slashdot would have invented one

My two cents? Take the path of least resistance. Choose the best thing you think you can successfully deliver on time to make the business work. When you have more time you can make things work better - if they don't work in the first place then no one will care about your well intentioned ideas

At the same time - don't give up on your aspirations, just remember, deliver something you can control in the time given - you probably already know what that is.

What surprises me is that these scientists actually weigh the risk reward in favour of damn lies. Fifteen minutes of fame then a dead career.

New comet might blaze brighter than the full Moon

UnresolvedExternal UnresolvedExternal writes  |  about 2 years ago

UnresolvedExternal (665288) writes "A new comet has been discovered that is predicted to blaze incredibly brilliantly in the skies during late 2013. With a perihelion passage of less than two million kilometres from the Sun on 28 November 2013, current predictions are of an object that will dazzle the eye at up to magnitude —16. That's far brighter than the full Moon. If predictions hold true then C/2012 S1 will certainly be one of the greatest comets in human history, far outshining the memorable Comet Hale-Bopp of 1997 and very likely to outdo the long-awaited Comet Pan-STARRS (C/2011 L4) which is set to stun in March 2013."
