GPS Tracking Without a Warrant Declared Legal

Vayra I think you all missed something (926 comments)

"The Ninth Circuit court has declared that attaching a GPS tracker to your car, as it sits in your driveway, or, by extension on a public street, and then using it to monitor every one of your movements, is totally legal, and can be performed by the police without needing a warrant."
This sentence can be split like this:
The Ninth Circuit court has declared that attaching a GPS tracker to your car, as it sits in your driveway, or, by extension on a public street, and then using it to monitor every one of your movements, is totally legal.
And it can be performed by the police without needing a warrant.

So, you can do it yourself.

GPS Tracking Without a Warrant Declared Legal

Vayra Re:Reasonable expectation of privacy (926 comments)

If it's your property, they'd have to be trespassing in order to place it there.

Blizzard To Require Real First and Last Names For Official Forums

Vayra Re:I actually like this trend... (833 comments)

Yes, because everyone lives in the US and are called John Doe.

My own name has maybe 3 people sharing it in the country, and I would be surprised if even one occurrence of it exists abroad.

Games Workshop Sues Warhammer Online Fansite

Vayra Re:Trademark is a tricky thing (182 comments)

EA/Mythic != GW

Though that said, GW did know about the site almost since its release, having already come to an agreement about some copyright issues a few years back.

Writer Peter Watts Sentenced; No Jail Time

Vayra Re:simply standing too close to an officer.. (299 comments)

What it means, is that when someone is abusing their powers (SAS shooting someone who does not have a gun, or border patrol beating someone who did not pose a threat) they are basically a civilian who broke the law and has no valid defense (ie should be convicted automatically of murder/assault/whatever is appropriate).

And there is no need for a beating to be a threat to life or health for it to be a crime.

Writer Peter Watts Sentenced; No Jail Time

Vayra Re:simply standing too close to an officer.. (299 comments)

Aye, and if it is later proved that he was not a threat they should take the full consequence of their actions (ie charges for unprovoked assault or whatever is appropriate). The police/border patrol are the enforcers of the law, but they are NOT above it.

Nokia Claims Apple Does "Legal Alchemy" To Mask IP Theft

Vayra Re:I hope Bilski invalidates them all (294 comments)

Except that VHDL and it's ilk is not something you can use on a big system if you want it to work well. Everything will simply be far too inefficient to be able to compete with those who do it by hand. Sure it may work for simple circuits but for anything approaching a complicated system it's useless to use synthesized circuits.

Designing circuits is still primarily a craft, not something automated.

European Parliament Declaring War Against ACTA

Vayra Re:And the US is .. leading the PUSH for ACTA ... (307 comments)

Having too much freedom for the people and too transparent a government is endangering the power of individual politicians as they can more easily be held accountable for their actions. This they do not like, and so they came to the conclusion that going back to secrecy and less freedom for the people is the way to go, as that would help secure their powers. Sucks monkeyballs, but that's what you get when you have people who think of themselves instead of the people they represent in power.

When I die, I want my body to be ...

Vayra Re:REMEMBER ME (793 comments)

I disagree. The entire point of living is to enjoy it. A short or long life, the only measure of the quality of that life is how much you enjoyed it. Don't know about you, but personally I'd rather live a short, reckless and dangerous life that's immensely funny than slave away at a boring job and live a long, boring life. Who remembers me and what for doesn't interest me in the slightest as I won't be around to care.

When I die, I want my body to be ...

Vayra Spess Travel (793 comments)

Assuming I don't find a way of cheating death (fingers crossed :D) I would want to be sent on a one way trip away from this planet. Out into the great nothingness. Goes well with the idea of nothing but Blessed Oblivion once we die.

Yeah, and then when you start thinking the government ain't all that great you get silenced before you have a chance to do anything about it.
